Chapter 287: Chapter 8: Eccentric Student_1

There is a saying that a school is a garden, and teachers are the gardeners.

However, in the garden diligently watered by the gardeners, not all students are flowers; most of them can only be leaves. Unfortunately, there will inevitably appear some odd ducks that astonish the people!

Yet unavoidably, every school has such peculiar students.

For example, at this moment, in the campus of Sancha River town, there was a student wandering around. Occasionally, when he saw a familiar face, he would quickly greet: "Hey, you, do you know which class I’ve been assigned to?"

Upon hearing these words, whether a student or a teacher, one couldn’t help but look at the student. They were curious about the kind of misfit who, two days after the start of school, still had no idea which class they were in - could such a person even dare to claim being a student?

Once everyone took a look, those who knew him recognized right away. Oh, it was that quirky student Yan Fei, the big shot who now raises cattle and sells liquor for a living.

Since it was him, it wasn’t surprising anymore.

He was busy both raising cattle and selling liquor.

Yan Fei himself felt quite helpless.

He had flown hundreds of miles last night and got back just before dawn.

He did not know whether it was because of the two-month long summer vacation and forgetting the school routine, or being influenced by recent days spent on the university campus. At that moment, when he saw the time and realized he could still catch the morning classes, he immediately rode his bicycle to school.

He remembered when he arrived at the school, he should have contacted Jiao Bing and Yang Qian first. Otherwise, he would end up like he was now, not even knowing which classroom was his!

The most tragic thing was that he did know quite a few people throughout middle school. However, among his classmates that he could consider close were only his two desk mates from the first year. Even if others knew him, when they were divided into classes, their attention was only on where they were placed, not others.

Luckily, as he stood at the intersection, he saw many students. After a while, he heard someone call out to him in surprise.

Turning his head, he saw Jiao Bing and Yang Qian strolling towards the school.

Those two were really too happy to see him: "Why are you only coming now? We had seized a good seat for you and collected your books too. This year, we’re in the same class as your lovely class teacher from last year, let me tell you..."

His two friends were really thoughtful. The ’stolen’ seat they had secured for him was a ’good’ seat right in the middle of the classroom.

Of course, this was also where the two of them sat, they didn’t mind as they were of average height. But when Yan Fei sat there, he immediately felt uneasy.

He was much taller now, and sitting there, he was clearly taller than anyone else. Once classes began, he suspected the students behind him would not appreciate it.

There was nothing he could do but to place his chair on its side and sit, which was just about right. It was, however, a bit uncomfortable for his bottom.

In this class, he also saw his old desk mate Zhang Qiang. That desk mate of his was sitting in a corner at the back.

This goes to show, not all studious students who ’faithfully’ come to school on time are necessarily good students.

The presence of Zhang Qiang proved this point - even if his grades could be slightly improved, with his character of not causing trouble, the teacher would not let him sit in such an out-of-sight, out-of-mind position.

"Hey, how many days of classes are you planning to attend?" While the teacher was not there yet, Jiao Bing seized the opportunity to ask Yan Fei.

"I don’t know yet. I haven’t made up my mind. If I have something else to do, I won’t come, if not, I will!" Yan Fei didn’t know how many days of regular classes he would attend and honestly answered, "Why are you two so concerned about whether I come to class?"

Yang Qian was even more frank: "If you don’t come, we’ll have one table between the two of us. It’ll be so comfortable!"

Yan Fei remained silent for a long while: "You truly are my good friend. No wonder you guys wanted to secure a good seat for me, you are just hoping I’ll skip class every day, right?"

Jiao Bing added: "No, not exactly! Anyway, even if we wanted you to attend classes, I guess you wouldn’t be able to stay for many days!"

In this day and age, children are so pragmatic. They don’t beat around the bush — they are straightforward. However, hearing this from them made Yan Fei feel rather awkward!

"Why are there still so many students in our class? Weren’t a lot of them transferred to No.2 Junior High School?" Yan Fei was puzzled.

"Don’t even mention it! Not even one was transferred out. They just closed down the small middle schools in the rural villages and sent those students to No.2 Junior High School. Not a single student from our school was transferred!" Jiao Bing responded with a touch of dissatisfaction.

They had been hoping for a whole year, wishing that the opening of No.2 Junior High School would thin out their classrooms. However, they were certainly disappointed by the result.

"By the way, is Xie Dang’en in our class?" After a pause, Yan Fei suddenly remembered his other desk mate and quickly asked the two.

"Ah..." Jiao Bing and Yang Qian both let out a long sigh. "He transferred, his dad got a job at an oil field, and their whole family moved there. We are in bad luck now!"

"Ah..." Yan Fei also let out a sigh.

His sigh was as dejected as that of a farmer who had been tending the fields and yet had had no rain for three whole months. Upon waking up early one day, they face another blazing sunny day.

The reason for the sigh was clear: Xie Dang’en was like the unattainable mountain in their history of cheating during exams. Now that he had left, everyone would undoubtedly be less ’confident’ in their exams!

The academic performances of Yang Qian and Jiao Bing were actually quite good. But no matter how good the grades, a student who doesn’t want to cheat is not a good student. Who wouldn’t want to be better prepared before an exam?

Yan Fei felt even more lost, and it seemed that he would have to rely on himself in the future! Although these two desk mates had decent academic performances, their performances during exams were as unpredictable as poets writing poems, depending on inspiration. The quality of their results completely depend on their state of mind a few days before the exams.

There could be sudden and irrational good times, and then there could be bad times when their grades drop so low that they don’t dare to make them public. Relying on them would be less reliable than relying on himself!

After just four lessons in the morning, Yan Fei felt as if he should not have come.

The long and busy vacation had made him forget a bit of the monotony of the classroom. After an enthusiastic morning, he started to feel listless.

"I have things to do this afternoon, so I won’t come. You both can have a desk to yourselves now! Enjoy..." On the way home, Yan Fei said goodbye to the two of them and rode his bike back to the cattle farm.

When he got the cattle farm, the first thing he did was check if there were any sudden situations during his absence. He left in such a rush that morning, he had not had time to meet with the farm staff!

What could possibly happen in just two days! Everyone was curious about the details of his trip to the Provincial City and if he had any exciting news or achievements to share.

Yan Fei thought for a moment, gave a brief summary of his experiences at the school library, and particularly mentioned how many books related to cattle farming were available.

Finally, he cleared his throat, waved his hand, and concluded, "Therefore, we must not treat our job of raising a few cattle like a simple task. Instead, we should treat it like a cause! Let’s work hard and work well on it!"

The speech sure was no waste, it left the cattle farm staff, including an old man with a disability, a widow from the countryside, a deaf man, and a former ’wayward’ street thug... all stunned.

Luckily, there was one normal person among them, which saved Yan Fei’s ’speech’ from falling flat. Ma Chao then gave a thumbs up and said, "You really have changed after the trip to the Provincial City..."

But why did the deaf man also give a thumbs up in excitement upon seeing Ma Chao’s gesture? Could he hear anything?
