Chapter 285: Chapter 6 The Amazing Dog Ears_1
In the entire library of the Agricultural University, Yan Fei diligently jotting notes was far from unique, but certainly quite rare.
School had just started and most of students came only to look up some references or to see what’s new, they hadn’t quite transitioned into study mode yet. Those studying as hard as him were few and far between.
There really was so much to write about. Just on the subject of cattle feed alone, there were categories like roughage, concentrate, juicy feed, animal feed, mineral feed, and feed additives, etc.
The type of feed to be fed to calves of different months, as well as various disease preventions at each stage, varied greatly. Thus, one can only imagine the amount of information available.
If he really wanted to copy everything, forget about finishing in one night, it would take dozens of nights to complete.
So, he could only choose what he was currently capable of, or soon would be capable of, such as the contents about simple feed mixing, and try to write down as much as possible.
It didn’t feel like he had been writing for very long when someone announced that the library was closing and students had to leave. Yan Fei quickly stood up, marked his progress, placed the book back on the bookshelf, and remembered its location.
There was no rush. He would frequently be back anyhow.
He found a corner in Vegetable Garden Island and settled onto a large red chair in a cave, facing a generous black desk. With a candle lit, Yan Fei felt like he was channeling the spirit of Premier Zhou, managing a multitude of daily affairs.
Something seemed missing. In the text, Premier Zhou would eat some peanuts in the evening. As such, a plate of beef jerky then appeared on his desk, and he began to rummage around while chewing.
He recalled that back at the paper factory, he’d collected quite a lot of paper goods that hadn’t been sorted yet!
He might not sort the rest, but wasn’t he preparing to copy books? He could use that bookshelf. Even though there weren’t many books on it yet, positioning it behind him for semblance would do for now, even if there was no one here to see.
Corporate Management? What nonsense; toss it aside. Financial reports? Utter rubbish, throw it as well. Speech manuscript? Throw...
No, the stack of drafts that were just about to be discarded was pulled back. He cleared his throat, then read aloud, "Do not merely see our, um, ranching as a job, but regard it as a career to pursue!"
After reciting it, he then said to himself, "That’s quite stirring. Seems like these factory folks, aren’t all bumbling fools..."
Of course, the speech from the paper factory wouldn’t have encouraged treating ranching as a career, it was his spontaneous modification.
How lucky, he also found a stapler, which neatly sorted his copied pages. He also found several notebooks, although most were partially used. There were also quite a few fountain pen inks which he could immediately make use of, and it’ll be a while before they ran out.
If there’s this much, surely he must save some for Miss Xu Xiaoyan too.
Having tidied up and put the bookshelf in place, he glanced over his copied notes. While reading, he could hear the sound of the surf, along with bizarre roars and gigantic splashes. He felt that this place really was ... a great place to study.
The next morning, he handed the prepared ink to Xu Xiaoyan before escorting the lady through the campus for the entire morning. He also proudly showed her the ’fruits’ of his document-copying efforts the previous evening.
The young lady was both surprised and delighted at seeing his painstakingly copied notes. "Yan Xiaofei, I never knew you were so studious!"
She’d never seen him so enthusiastic about raising cattle. He had some cattle farming books in his room, but she never saw him reading them. Of course, she didn’t know that those books were quite rough in their content. Yan Fei had perused them once and had remembered most of it, considering them to be not much use and therefore didn’t re-read them.
He always looked so casual normally, and while cattle farming, he simply conducted routine management, which didn’t reflect how important he considered this work.
Upon hearing the young lady’s commendation, his face was full of dissatisfaction. "What do you know? Do you think I raise cattle randomly? Before I started, I used to go to the veterinary station every day, watching how they treated cattle while learning for quite a while."
The young lady quickly and insincerely apologized, "All right, all right, I wronged you! My Yan Xiaofei will be a professional cattle farmer in the future. His cattle will supply the whole province with beef! Is that good enough?"
Yan Fei was still unsatisfied, his face full of swagger as he looked up at the sky: "The whole province? In the future, I’ll let the whole nation, the whole world eat my beef. When I’m not happy, the price of beef will rise, so no one else can afford it..."
With a grin, the young lady accompanied him in conversation, "What if you are in a good mood?"
Yan Fei was all smugness: "When I’m happy, I’ll give it away for free. Two catties of cooked beef per person to people all around the world. They have to eat it whether they want to or not..."
The girl laughed uproariously, clutching her stomach: "Yan Xiaofei, when people talk big, they usually just blow up one cow. But you, in one breath, you’ve blown all the cows in the world up to the sky!"
Yan Fei wasn’t afraid of the girl laughing at him; he had a winnning strategy to deal with her now.
Seizing the opportunity while the girl was enjoying her laugh, he made sure no one was paying attention, quietly leaned over and planted a smacking kiss on the girl’s face.
As expected, the girl immediately stopped laughing, looking around anxiously to see if anyone had noticed, before glaring at Yan Xiaofei: "Yan Xiaofei, you’re getting more and more out of line! Does the school know about this?"
Yan Fei glanced around again, then winked and gestured towards something in the distance.
The girl followed his gaze and started laughing again: "They are studying, okay?"
Yan Fei showed utter contempt: "Humph, there’s plenty of places in the library and classroom to study. Why would a boy and a girl need to sit together in the small woods and sit so close to each other? They might as well be sitting on each other’s laps! I don’t believe they’re seriously studying. If you don’t believe me, go ask them what they’re studying. Maybe even they don’t know!"
The girl could do nothing with his thick skin. She moved further away from him in accordance with "safety first, avoid danger" principle.
The girl had made plans to have lunch with her high school friends and exchange the new dorm numbers for future contact.
Yan Fei decided not to join them. He wouldn’t be satisfied dining with her classmates anyway. He said to the girl that he was planning to continue copying books in the Agricultural University library.
The girl asked him: "When are you planning to go back? Your school has started today, I bet they have proper classes!"
Yan Fei thought about it and said: "I won’t be coming back in the afternoon. You should take this opportunity to get to know your classmates! I’ll go back once I finish copying in the evening! From then on, I’ll just stay at my campus. Eat the beef jerky I brought you before it goes bad."
He reached into his pocket and handed her some banknotes: "Just buy whatever you want in the dining hall; don’t save your money. Buy whatever you need. As for the salted vegetables, eat them or not, it’s okay. If they go bad, just dump them. We have lots of it, I’ll bring you more later..."
She was crying now:"You give me money for living expenses ..."
Yan Fei was startled: "I didn’t realize how expensive things are in the provincial city. This is for you to have in reserve. People are watching! Don’t cry, I told you I could come at any time, I’m not lying to you! At the latest, I’ll come to see you on Teacher’s Day. Or, I’ll come on the weekend..."
The girl was now sobbing: "You don’t need to hurry back. Wait until the National Day holiday when you have more time! It’s so far away, the round trip costs tens of yuan. You also have to take care of your cattle and attend classes..."
Yan interrupted, "You don’t have to worry about that, just focus on your studies. I won’t take the bus ... I’ll cycle to you. See how fast I can ride a bike, maybe it’s faster than when we came here by bus! At least I don’t have to stop on the road!"
The girl looked at him indignantly: "No way, that’s too tiring!"
Yan Fei sounded impatient, "Stop talking about it. Have you ever seen me get tired? Hurry up and put away the money. Stop looking so upset, I’m already getting scolded!"
The girl forgot to refuse the money and obediently put it in her pocket: "Who’s scolding you?"
Yan Fei was upset, "The students in your school, just now the two girls passing by us. They saw the expression on your face, spoke up for you, whispering that you’re a flower being stuck in cow dung, and accused me of this cow dung for not knowing how to appreciate the flower, making you upset."
The girl immediately laughed, "Serves you right. Who told your ears to listen so keenly? I didn’t hear anything."
Yan Fei scoffed, "Why are you so pleased? They said something about you too."
Upon hearing this, the girl looked around: "Who said things about me? What did they say?"
Yan Fei chuckled again, "Those boys over there, they said you are blind..."
The girl seethed: "Who? Why would they say I’m blind?"
Yan Fei laughed even more, "They said, if you were not blind, how could you have fallen for me!"
The girl: "..."
