Carrying a Jurassic on me -

Chapter 211: Chapter 76: On the Road_1
On the main road from the county town to Sancha River, Xu Xiaoyan asked Yan Fei, with a worried look, "Yan Xiaofei, what are we going to do? We have so much stuff that we can’t even get on the bus. Are we really going to walk back?"
Yan Fei watched the car puffing smoke dejectedly drive away and then looked up at the burning sun, frowned, and said, "If we wait for the next bus, it will be noon. Let’s walk back!"
Just as he was about to pick up the load to leave, he took note of the girl soaked in sweat and stopped, "Why don’t we go back to my house first? We can eat and then go to the station to catch a bus?"
"No! Let’s just walk back!" Xu Xiaoyan immediately objected to Yan Fei’s suggestion of going back to his house for food. The two might have considered doing that before they had clarified their relationship, but now that the nature of their relationship is clear and they aren’t engaged, it would be too awkward to meet the parents.
Watching the girl struggling with the load, Yan Fei stepped forward to hold her load, "You put this down first and let me carry it! It’s nothing to me."
"So you want me to watch you carry the load with empty hands? Let’s go! Enough messing around!" The girl was stubborn.
"Let me take some of it, otherwise, it’s a long way, and you’ll get tired out after a while." Even without waiting for the girl’s opposition, Yan Fei withdrew a few pieces of waste iron from both ends of the girl’s burden and stuffed them into his load.
Even though it was scorching hot, there was a slight breeze in the field. Also, there were occasional tree shades on both sides of the trail leading home, offering some respite.
The two would walk for a while and then rest for a while, Yan Fei, didn’t feel tired at all, instead feel a headache watching Xu Xiaoyan insist on carrying things on her own.
Finally, they arrived at the river, having covered more than half the distance. While preparing to cross the river, they rested a bit longer by the river. Yan Fei made an excuse to delve into the fields and returned with a few small melons, claiming he ’stole’ them from someone’s field to quench the girl’s thirst.
In rural areas, if you’re passing by and pick a fruit or vegetable when you’re thirsty or hungry, it’s not considered ’stealing’. The girl, feeling thirsty, didn’t hesitate to eat the melon and didn’t bother to find out where the melon came from.
Watching the girl enjoying the melon, Yan Fei was considering persuading her again to let him carry her load when he suddenly noticed her shoulder.
She was wearing light summer clothes, and through the white fabric, he could see faint traces of blood.
Watching the girl acting as though nothing had happened angered Yan Fei, "If you can’t carry the load, don’t! Look what’s happened to your shoulder. Come here, let me see!"
Feeling puzzled by Yan Fei’s anger, the girl looked over to her shoulder and yelled in surprise, "I knew it was burning! How come it’s even bleeding?"
Without hesitating in Yan Fei’s presence, she directly lifted her clothes to take a look at the injury.
She winced as she peeled off her clothes, which had clung to her due to sweat and blood.
Yan Fei rushed over to inspect it, reassuring her, "It’s fine, it’s nothing serious. Apply some medicine when we get back. Is the other side okay?"
While carrying the load, if one shoulder got tired, she would switch to the other side. Hearing Yan Fei’s words, she obediently checked her other shoulder and heaved a sigh of relief, "It’s okay. It’s just a bit red, and it stings a little, but it’s not as severe as the other side."
"That’s good. Do you have something to put over this spot? Otherwise, it will hurt when your clothes rub against it while you walk." Yan Fei too, breathed a sigh of relief.
"I have a handkerchief." The girl immediately presented a small handkerchief.
Yan Fei reached out to take it from her, "Come here, let me pad it for you. It will be inconvenient for you."
Having said that, he lifted the girl’s clothes and stuffed the handkerchief in place, muttering, "This load is really troublesome. Why do you have to carry it? Can’t you go without it?"
The previously somewhat blushing girl, upon hearing him, blushed even more as she waited for him to spread the quilt and pinched him right away: "Stop talking nonsense. I did bring everything already, without it, would I look like a proper woman? You are wobbling all over the place as you walk..."
Unfazed, Yan Fei re-bundled all the scrap irons and then turned to the girl with a mischievous glint in his eyes, "Let’s not carry these things with us for now. I’ll hide them by the river and come back when it cools down in the evening. There’s hardly anyone around here anyway. If I hide them in some remote place, nobody will notice."
Xu Xiaoyan was somewhat worried, "Will that work? What if someone finds them?"
"No one will find them. Don’t worry about it! Even if someone does, they can’t take much away! Could you stand guard at that high place over there and see if there’s anyone around?" Yan Fei instructed the girl, pointing to a slightly elevated area not far from them.
Upon seeing the girl walk hesitantly to the spot, he gathered the scrap irons and began to walk in the opposite direction. Spotting her looking around from the watch post, he found a place where she couldn’t see and squatted down. After disappearing briefly, he reemerged, dusted off his empty hands, and returned to her.
"Everything’s hidden. Shall I go and check how secure it is?" Xu Xiaoyan rushed down enthusiastically, eager to inspect the hiding spot.
"Don’t bother. I’ve already covered it all with grass. What if someone sees you if you go look?" Yan Fei caught hold of her instantly. Persuading her took quite some time before she finally gave up on checking his ’hiding’ spot.
Could he let this girl go and check? The items had already been thrown directly into the blacksmith shop at Vegetable Garden Island by Yan Fei. The place the girl wanted to check didn’t even have a trace of rust left.
He had wanted to throw them in the blacksmith’s shop a long time ago. It was her presence that held him back, making him walk around needlessly.
Now that the weights were gone, they both felt considerably lighter. Sitting there, their spirits were indeed lifted quite a few notches. Even the breeze from the river was so pleasant they didn’t want to leave.
Xu Xiaoyan still voiced her concerns, "Yan Xiaofei, don’t you dare lose that ’pole’ I painstakingly picked out. Even if it doesn’t come in handy for forging, who knows, it might be useful later on!"
Lazily lounging around on the grass, Yan Fei responded, "Don’t worry, I won’t lose it. I’ve already thought it through. When we get back, I’ll forge that iron rod into a big knife. Hmph! It will be even more impressive than the one in Shanglin Village. Then, with that knife, I’ll..."
He suddenly stopped mid-sentence. He originally wanted to use the knife for hunting dinosaurs, but he couldn’t reveal that, otherwise, he’d spill the beans.
"What do you plan to do with that knife?" On hearing this, Xu Xiaoyan took interest. She sat up from the grass, staring at him expectantly.
"Why are you so curious? I have my ways!" Yan Fei got stuck and tried to bluff his way through.
"Nope, I must know." Seeing him not revealing anything, the girl started to get cheeky. Ignoring her aching arms, she grabbed his and started to shake it, not letting him rest easily.
"Stop shaking me. Alright, I’ll tell you..." Yan Fei was left with no choice. "I plan... to take it with me to perform on the streets. I will swing the knife, and you will collect the money. Let’s see who dares not to support us then. I’ll teach them a lesson, ask them if they’re scared of this big knife or not..."
"Don’t make up stories!" The girl burst out laughing. "Are you performing or robbing? Are you threatening people if they don’t give you money?"
"Of course, I am performing. Who, in their right mind, would rob others with such a big knife? What if I steal too many things? With such a huge knife, I won’t even be able to run fast." Yan Fei argued, then lay down on the ground, raising both hands in a boxing salute towards the girl, putting on quite a show: "Performing on the streets is not easy. Who’s this girl, care to support me?"
Xu Xiaoyan laughed heartily, "Fine, but what’s your demand? I don’t have any money!"
Yan Fei briskly got to his feet, bent over and said to the girl, "It doesn’t matter if you don’t have money. Having someone is enough. Come along with me..."
The girl giggled even more, playing along, and lightly lay on his back, saying, "Alright then, let’s go..."
And off he went, carrying the girl across the river!
