Chapter 198: Chapter 65 The Story’s Incident_1

"What secret?" Xu Xiaoyan, upon hearing Yan Fei mention a secret, stared blankly at first and then looked at him with a smirk. "Well, look at you, Yan Xiaofei, such a big, brawny lad. Who would’ve thought you’re also good at keeping secrets! Out with it, what’s the big secret?"

Seeing Xu Xiaoyan’s reaction, Yan Fei couldn’t help but laugh and felt relieved.

Clearly, she hadn’t taken the secret he mentioned seriously. She was just being playful. Her words mirrored a popular actor’s line from a TV show skit, who always played the fool and was bald.

As soon as the words had left his mouth, Yan Fei began to regret it.

He still remembers that his grandfather, on his deathbed, repeatedly tried to speak, but couldn’t make a sound.

Others might have thought the old man was worried about his foolish grandson and wondered what he wanted to say. But Yan Fei understood.

What his grandfather had been trying to say was: don’t tell, don’t reveal...

Yan Fei understood well. His grandfather had been repeating a warning he had given countless times before. He was not supposed to tell anyone that he had a peculiar world of his own.

Every day, hundreds of times, his grandfather would kindly advise, educate, scold, spank...all to make him understand not to reveal his secret, not to give strange things to people, and not to let anyone know he could visit the weird island.

As a kid, sometimes when he visited the island and brought back seashells or oddities from its shores, his grandfather would first patiently explain why he should not do that. If he failed to comprehend, his grandfather would scold him and instruct him to return the items and hide them.

Back then, he was too young to understand, but now he realizes how terrified his grandfather must have been for his sake to the extent that he collapsed. Even on his deathbed, his last wish was to remind him over and over again.

Sometimes he even suspects that the stress and worry killed his grandfather prematurely. After all, how could a robust man in his fifties, who could still swing a hammer, work the iron, and had a loud, clear voice, simply drop dead?

That’s why he regretted what he’d said a moment ago and wished he could take it back.

Fortunately, seeing the girl goofing around, he breathed a sigh of relief and laughed as he turned to flee: "I’m not telling! A secret is supposed to be a secret, I absolutely won’t spill it to you..."

"You, Yan Xiaofei, dare to keep a secret from me! I’ll get you with my Nine Yin Skeleton Claw..." Seeing Yan Fei trying to escape, the girl didn’t hesitate and chased after him with her "Nine Yin Skeleton Claw" waving in the air, causing quite a playful ruckus.

"Okay, okay! Weren’t you hungry? Let’s go back and get some food. Stop goofing around. The door’s over there... I surrender! If you keep tickling me, I’ll jump in the river..." Yan Fei capitulated after the relentless tickling chase.

"Humph, now you know who’s boss!" she triumphantly blew air onto her ’Nine Yin Skeleton Claw’. That gesture was just like what villains did in movies after a kill, a dramatic gun-barrel blow.

"Alright, alright, let’s hurry back and make dinner! We’re already by this stinky sewage ditch, aren’t you bothered by the smell?" Yan Fei pleaded while they bantered. In their carefree chase, they’d unintentionally ended up by a polluted stream.

"Ugh, it stinks, even worse than you! Gross! Let’s get out of here..." she responded, wrinkling her nose at the smell. Realizing where they were, she quickly covered her nose and turned around to leave.

"When did I start stinking!" Yan Fei muttered, feeling offended.

"You stink and yet you dare to talk back! What is this secret you’re keeping from me? You’ve spent so much time by this stinky sewer, has it blackened your heart? How could you dare to hide something from me!" The girl started to joke around again.

"Fine, fine, I’ll tell you." Seeing they were about to enter the courtyard, the girl still hadn’t stopped teasing him, Yan Fei wisely surrendered once again. His mind was spinning, trying to come up with a plausible secret.

"Spill it! I’m all ears! And if you dare lie, be prepared for the Nine Yin Skeleton Claw!" Xu Xiaoyan triumphantly warned.

"The truth is..." Yan Fei’s brain was spinning. "The truth is, I can predict the future. From a young age, I knew you would be my bride. Why, you ask? Because in my past life I was a cowboy and you were a small animal. When you got caught, I saved you... which meant you owed me a favor, which is why you had to carry me when I was sick. That’s what you owe me..."

Xu Xiaoyan initially listened with interest before her expression changed. She responded with her Nine Yin Skeleton Claw: "Why don’t you just say I was a white snake, who practiced for over a thousand years to find you? Are you Xu Xian? He at least ended up by the scenic West Lake. Are you saying I should put up with the smell to find you? If I owe you, then here’s the payback...one strike, two strikes, is that enough..."
