Chapter 196: Chapter 64: I Have a Secret_1
Bang...Bang...Bang...
The monotonous yet rhythmic beat echoed on Vegetable Garden Island, occasionally amplified by the youthful barks of a puppy. The distant sounds of the sea reflected off the island’s edges, creating an echoing chorus.
The firewood in the stove blazed fiercely, the chunks of meat in the pot tumbled in boiling broth, exuding delicious aromas.
The beating began to quicken, echoing like a non-stop drumming. Yan Fei, who had maintained his ’wild man’ state, was swinging his hammer with such speed it left an afterimage. The exhausted chisel underneath barely held on, contributing the last bit of its service to the construction of Yan Fei’s hut.
Finally, when the last piece of wood was put into place, Yan Fei’s hut was completely built.
Out of laziness, a typical house would have a ridge with slanted roofs at both sides. However, Yan Fei’s wooden hut was designed differently, with one side higher than the other. This unconventional design saved him a lot of work, even if it felt odd.
The corner of the house was a little off right angle and slightly skewed - certainly not perfect, but it was impressive for a first-time construction job. Yan Fei was satisfied. The building was sturdy and durable, constructed by interlinking logs.
Though it’s referred to as a hut, it’s more like a storage shed. Yan Fei only needed a place that could provide shelter from the rain. He would use it to store some of his belongings, and maybe cook a bit. He didn’t even need a door.
The slow pace of the construction resulted from time spent redesigning a chimney.
Yes, Yan Fei had built the stove into the structure of the hut to save effort, thereby eliminating the need to move the stove into the house afterwards.
Three puppies moved in even before the hut was fully constructed, and they now hovered around his feet, begging for bones. Despite a huge bowl of meat soup already available on the ground, they were still fighting over the bone Yan Fei had finished gnawing on.
A corner of the hut had some low-lying horizontal logs. Perfect for hanging preserved meat. Now he was trying to make dried meat. Upon completion of the wooden hut, the drying problem was resolved.
The preserved meat that was made before would sometimes get drenched in a sudden downpour. Now he didn’t have to be afraid of that anymore.
After a satisfying meal, he left Vegetable Garden Island. The next moment he reappeared on Toad Island, transformed into the Morphing Winged Dragon, and bounded into the desolate eastern sky, heading towards the last unexplored island in the distance.
Where he had morphed into the dragon, a pile of unknown plant leaves was left behind.
Persistent manual labor had eroded his garments. Even his loincloth was often accidentally torn into pieces. As a result, he decided to create a makeshift skirt from tree leaves, resembling a savage.
No one was really around to watch him. If he were comfortable without clothes, he would even save the effort of making the leaf bourne ’garments’.
It was still early. Other pterosaurs were not yet out foraging. The sky was quiet.
The Pterosaur’s black wings soared against the dim sky, the upcoming island was getting larger and larger in sight, making the journey increasingly fascinating.
The island turned out much larger than he anticipated. Taking advantage of the absence of other Pterosaurs in the sky, Yan Fei continued flying towards the front, showing no intentions of landing.
The reason he chose to ascend was because this new island, on the side facing Toad Island, was all mountains.
But even mountains were no match for wings that could fly. Ignoring the eerie noises in the forest between the valleys, he slid silently through the mist atop the forest canopy. Yan Fei quickly reached the ridge.
Then, there was a slight pause in the wings of the Pterosaur. Apparently, the scene beyond the ridge had taken Yan Fei by surprise.
A cyclical, giant valley appeared in front of him.
Before he could observe the peripherals of the valley, Yan Fei’s eyes were captivated by the mirror-like grand lake in the center of the expanse.
An unimaginably large valley adorned by an equally unimaginably large lake. The clear lake water mirrored the surrounding mountains. Even before the skies could fully lighten and while the phrase of the valley was still veiled by mist.
The sheer veil-like mist gently floated above the lake, adding a touch of hazy beauty to the scene.
As his wings sliced through the lake’s surface, it felt as though there was another Pterosaur mirrored in the clear lake, flying towards him. Most of the lake bank was a gentle slope, with just a small segment of steep cliffs reflecting in the lake, along with the faint outline of the trees growing atop it.
This spectacle was witnessed before noon when the light was not yet at its peak.
This indescribable beauty permeated throughout, even amidst the haze.
The sea was never this calm, and the pools and lakes on other islands were merely puddles compared to this lake.
A few large dinosaurs with long necks and tails ambled leisurely amidst the sparse woods on the hillside, occasionally reaching for a clump of leaves from the trees. They then swayed their elongated tails, raised their necks, and moved on elegantly.
A small group of petite dinosaurs, approximately the size of a fattened pig, sipped water from the lake cautiously.
Their cautious demeanor made it clear that the seemingly harmless lake concealed potential threats.
As Yan Fei flew over the lake towards the other bank, he spotted a group of stegosauruses with large and small bony plates running from head to tail, emerging from the forest.
