Chapter 181: Chapter 55: Strike While the Iron is Hot_1

From this day forward, the young folks and even those naughty children in Sancha River town developed a new habit whenever they played. They’d randomly find something to punch, then bear the pain with a wince, and pridefully declare, "This is my XX tombstone for you, ready and waiting!"

Unfortunately, they were missing a five-foot-high blank tombstone beside them and a pretty girl as delicate as a pink lotus behind them.

So, all they were doing was mimicking others, trying to be funny and amusing, but not even as impressive as a mosquito’s leg.

When summer approached noon, it was when the sun was at its peak. So people, unless really necessary, would avoid going out.

In the cattle yard, Xu Xiaoyan arrived from next door, and as soon as she entered the room began shouting impatiently: "Out, out, everyone out of here, there’s no place to step in the room..."

While yelling, she was also pushing and kicking.

She was kicking the four dogs and pushing a cow.

Not just humans hid from the sun during this weather, even animals did.

The four dogs would always follow Yan Fei around the cattle yard. Every time Yan Fei entered the room, they’d wait outside the door. But now, because of the hot weather, Yan Fei let them in.

The cow was the young calf that was taken to the county city for "sightseeing." Since it won Xu Xiaoyan’s favor, nobody restrained it now. It was a free cow in the cattle yard. When it wasn’t eating grass or pleasing Xu Xiaoyan, it would just nibble at the grass in the empty ground of the cattle yard, strolling leisurely here and there. Sometimes it even played with the four dogs. It almost seemed like a blessed being.

It was supposed to be a cow, but instead of plowing fields or pulling carts, it followed dogs around and acted like them all day. It even knew to wag its tail and put on a cute face like a dog for attention. Which law of the universe can explain this? What kind of special person can raise such a unique cow?

When both Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan were present, the cow would join the fun too and, like the dogs, enter the room. Even though it couldn’t fit lying down inside the room, it’d still try to squeeze in, only managing to fit half its body inside, with its tail swinging outside the door.

Yan Fei lied in a damaged recliner in the center, while a small table and a few chairs were placed to one side, and stacks of wine jars lined up against the wall. Good thing they built the house in an extra-large size. Otherwise, it’d have been impossible to fit everything inside.

In that scenario, there was not much to say otherwise - most people who encountered this scene would probably have a breakdown!

Xu Xiaoyan managed to shoo all of these creatures out with a combination of kicks and pushes. She then turned around, softening her expression from a ferocious one to a gentle smile. She whispered to Yan Fei, who was lying in the recliner, "Your meal is almost ready. I’ll bring it over in a bit, you should wash your hands first!"

As she spoke, she picked up a basin, filled it with water and brought it over with a towel.

She then helped Yan Fei sit up, waited for him to finish washing his hands, moistened the towel in the water, wrung it dry, and wiped his hands.

Once she was done, she took the basin away and got busy in the adjacent kitchen.

When she said that she was almost done cooking, it was truly ’almost done.’ Yan Fei felt like falling asleep already, and yet he could still hear the noise of pots and pans from next door.

Barely able to wait any longer, he was about to get up to check the kitchen when he heard her footsteps approaching. The next moment, Xu Xiaoyan, drenched in sweat, rushed into the room. Seeing Yan Fei standing up, she hurriedly set the dishes on the small table and rushed over to him, saying, "Sit down quickly, stop moving around, rest well. If you get sick from exhaustion, it’ll be trouble!"

So, Yan Fei obediently sat down again.

Carrying those blue stone slabs back had indeed been exhausting. As soon as he entered the room and lay down in the recliner, he had said, "I’m so tired!" After that, Yan Fei hadn’t been able to get up from the recliner again.

It wasn’t that it was too exhausting, it was that Xu Xiaoyan wouldn’t allow him to.

Bringing tea, pouring water, to and fro with a fan, washing his face, drying his sweat - she didn’t let Yan Fei do anything himself. Just like a little maid serving a petty tyrant landlord’s son. It was so over the top that others felt awkward and tried to keep their distance. Particularly, Fang Xiaoqing, who used to do her homework and sell alcohol inside the room, was so annoyed that her eyes hurt from rolling them – she didn’t even need to be asked to leave, she grabbed her homework and ran as if escaping.

Yan Fei was indeed a little tired. After all, carrying those large stone slabs over a long distance was exhausting. But to say things like "tired to death," now that was exaggerating.

These days, he was building a wooden house on Vegetable Garden Island. Those pieces of lumber were transported back and forth, with each round taking half the night, but that wasn’t tiring. Of course, the wood was lighter than the stone slabs and didn’t need to be carried non-stop.

But it was not so tiring that it required someone to look after him; he’d rested and recovered just from the walk back with empty hands. The reason he lay down was, firstly, because Xu Xiaoyan insisted on it; secondly, having a girl fussing over him was a rather pleasant feeling, so he decided to play along with her.

Being frank, being cared for this way felt quite nice.

Even during the meal, Xu Xiaoyan kept asking him questions like "Are you feeling uncomfortable anywhere?" "Where does it hurt?" and so on.

It took Yan Fei an inordinate amount of explaining before she finally believed that he was truly alright.

And she only believed him when he was about to stand up and grab the drinks barrel as evidence, but she stopped him.

The girl’s cooking skills were pretty basic, but somehow everything tasted delicious when the two of them were together. After a long drawn out and cozy meal, Xu Xiaoyan tidied up the kitchen and brought a large watermelon from the kitchen, cut it open, and handed Yan Fei a slice. She then sat next to Yan Fei, fanning him with a fly swatter.
