Chapter 178: Chapter 53 Divine Power Naturally Formed_2
"Get up!" Yan Fei instructed Heizi to back off, before he commenced heaving and erecting the slab.
The slab was not large and was nicely polished, especially the side weathered by water, which was smooth. It was roughly two meters in length, twenty centimeters thick, and not very wide - perhaps eighty centimeters at most. It had to be so; otherwise, it would have been inconvenient to transport when it was initially constructed.
After lifting it, Yan Fei called over Heizi,"Stop lazing around, come here and clean the backside."
The part of the slab that lay on the ground was covered with dirt. It was too messy to touch without cleaning first.
"Okay," Heizi blankly drew near with a spade to start cleaning the dirt from the backside of the slab.
Heizi had barely started when Yan Fei, seeing his indifference, grew impatient, "Just stop and give it to me! The way you’re working, it would be midday by the time you finish!"
Upon being abruptly deprived of his tool by Yan Fei, Heizi finally reacted and dumbfoundedly asked, "Yan Fei, you’re not planning to shoulder this slab away, are you?"
"Hehe! I am setting up this giant slab at Granny Dazui’s doorstep. Let’s see if she dares to randomly match my wife again!" Yan Fei chuckled smugly, recalling the idea he had pondered over last night.
"Damn..." Heizi seldom cursed in front of Yan Fei, but his shock was such that he had already uttered it twice that day.
Though he had witnessed Yan Fei weigh calves by cradling them and toss around a two hundred catty pig as though it were a mere chick, he found it hard to stomach the sight of Yan Fei preparing to shoulder such an enormous quartzite.
Are you seriously human?
Heizi had seen people with great strength. There were threshing yards on the outskirts of town where people often showcased their strength by hoisting the stone rollers used to thresh wheat.
If someone managed to lift one and take a couple of steps, it was regarded as awesome and the talk of the town for days.
Bearing in mind how heavy those stone rollers were - about three or four hundred catties - and estimating this quartzite to be half a ton at the very least, Heizi was baffled at Yan Fei’s plan to shoulder it and place it in front of someone else’s house.
He pinched his thigh hard, grimacing at the pain and glanced up at the high sun, assured that he wasn’t dreaming!
While Heizi was lost in thought, Yan Fei had already cleaned the slab. Looking at the now much cleaner slab, he threw the spade aside, clapped his hands in satisfaction, and proceeded to take action.
When Yan Fei initially had the idea to use the slab, he wasn’t sure if he could lift it. He had made plans to find a substitute from the West River, where the river embankment built using large stones had some leftovers scattered around the vicinity. He reckoned one of those might also do.
But now, he felt the problem wasn’t significant.
Taking a deep breath, he crouched slightly and placed his hands on the sides of the slab. He heaved it to test its weight, lifting it slightly off the ground, before dropping it with a thud.
He’s now at ease and doesn’t need to look for another stone!
He shifted to a more comfortable position to shoulder the slab, put some strength into his arms, quietly grunted and slowly straightened his back. Subsequently, the vast quartzite slab also left the ground.
Not just Heizi, but the two young girls standing on the nearby rampart were baffled too. They involuntarily exclaimed in surprise, then pressed their hands to their mouths, exchanging incredulous glances. All they felt was a profound sense of unreality.
As the slab gradually left the ground, Yan Fei’s feet started sinking into the ground. The earth was soft at the edge of the drainage ditch!
"Heave ho!"
When the slab was almost at the required height, Yan Fei grunted once more. His body jerked upwards, and the slab violently flipped mid-air, landing neatly on his shoulders.
"Oh..." Just when he was about to stride away, he sensed something off. Glancing down, he realized that his feet had sunk deep into the mud, almost out of sight.
He managed to take a few difficult steps and finally came onto the small dirt road, feeling much more at ease.
When he turned around and saw Heizi still standing there looking dazed, Yan Fei was immediately irritated. "What in the world are you doing? Are you still half-asleep from last night? Why are you daydreaming? Hurry up and lead the way!"
"Uh, lead the way..." Heizi turned and started to walk, but after two steps, he paused again, turning to ask, "Where to?"
"What... To Granny Dazui’s house! Don’t you know where she lives?" Yan Fei grumbled. "Hurry up, I’m carrying a rock here! It’s very heavy!"
"Oh!" Upon hearing Yan Fei’s command, Heizi immediately resumed walking.
"Take the shovel, will you? Can’t you see that I can’t hold it because of this rock?" Yan Fei yelled again.
"Oh, oh, the shovel, where’s my shovel?" With his mind totally blank, Heizi simply looked around him upon hearing the word "shovel".
"Here it is!" Yan Fei had no more patience to deal with him. He pointed out the location for him, then set off along the path ahead.
Seeing Yan Fei carrying the stone slab over, Heizi finally snapped out of it and ran directly into the vegetable garden at the side of the road, not caring if he trampled over the vegetables.
When Yan Fei had passed him, Heizi hurriedly picked up the shovel and overtook Yan Fei again, yelling, "Take it easy, just put it down if you’re tired, don’t strain yourself! Follow me, I know a shortcut once we’re on the main road. Go slow, watch out for the trees on the sides..."
In the summer, whether going out to play or to market, people would set off early in the morning when it was still cool.
Thus, there were already quite a few people on the road at this time. Before Heizi and Yan Fei even reached the main road, someone who recognized Heizi called out: "Heizi, what mischief are you up to now, running around so hurriedly?"
Heizi had no time to reply, or even to look at the speaker. He impatiently urged, "Move out of the way, watch out..."
The person who had greeted Heizi hadn’t gotten a word out in response before he stood frozen on the spot. Then, unconsciously, he just went, "Holy crap..."
The exclamation didn’t come from one person, but from several people in unison.
They were all young people, probably friends with Heizi from the past. They’d bumped into him by chance and decided to crack a joke. But instead of laughter, the joke was met with astonishment. It was as if the universe was playing a joke on them.
Only when Heizi led Yan Fei away, towards a smaller road on the other side of the main road, did these young men finally snap out of their daze. One of them, wide-eyed and stunned, managed to blurt out, "Holy shit, am I dreaming? Er Gou, pinch me, quick... damn, take it easy, trying to kill me are you... "
The other young men didn’t pay any mind to the two of them. They hastily followed Heizi and Yan Fei, calling out all the while: "Come on, let’s catch up and see, can this even be considered human..."
They didn’t know what to say, just continually repeating their expletive. The group of them darted after Heizi and Yan Fei like a line of ants on the march.
Upon reaching the small road, the first young man suddenly halted and lowered his head, uttering his catchphrase under his breath.
The guys behind him nearly ran into him, each of them cursing in annoyance. Then they saw the young man pointing at the ground. They followed his finger with their eyes and all fell silent. Right at the entrance to the small path, in a spot that was slightly lower and a bit moist, probably from rainwater runoff, a footprint was visible. It was about two inches deep, and so crisply defined it looked like it was carved there.
Not just one, but multiple imprints were there, in places where the soil was slightly soft. A clear footprint was left wherever the man in front had stepped, and they were only increasing in number...
Miss Xu Xiaoyan on the village fortifications only reacted when Heizi and Yan Fei crossed the main road and embarked on the small path. Her eyes filled with stars as she subconsciously mumbled in admiration, "so awesome," then promptly scrambled down from the fortifications to follow them. After taking a few steps, she remembered her elder sister and turned, finding her still in a stupor.
"Elder sister, are you coming? If you’re not, I’m going ahead on my own!" Calling this out, Xu Xiaoyan then charged off at full tilt.
Roused by her sister’s call, the elder sister finally came to her senses and hastily took off after her. But by the time she got down, Xu Xiaoyan was already near the main road, and her elder sister only had time to glance at the slab of stone near the sewage entrance before she had to rush off to catch up.
No one heard the elder sister muttering to herself as she went: "Two meters long, point two thick, point eight wide, volume point three two cubic meters, bluestone density about two point five tons per cubic meter, the calculated weight is about point eight...ton..."
There are always some creatures in this world that ordinary people will never understand. They may look like normal humans, but they exist in their own separate worlds. Others can only look up in awe, unable to fathom them.
Such creatures are known as - straight-A students!
