Chapter 1724: Chapter 818 Building Bridges and Roads_2

"Alright, I got it. Don’t worry, Mayor Chen." Yan Fei knew that if he didn’t say something, Mayor Chen was about to give him a good lesson, so he quickly agreed. "Where are you being transferred to this time?"

"First, to the provincial city for training and studies, then I’ll wait for further arrangements." Mayor Chen said with a smile. "Don’t worry, wherever it is, it will definitely be a step higher than my current position. After all, with the development of Sancha River Township until now, I’ve put in a lot of hard work."

"Had I known earlier, I wouldn’t have come back; I’d just wait for you in the provincial city." Yan Fei slapped his thigh. "Will you have a place to stay when you get there? If not..."

"There’s a place, there’s a place, training and studying includes dormitory accommodation." Mayor Chen laughed. "It’s mandatory to stay there!"

"What about Teacher Wen and the two kids?" Yan Fei asked about Mayor Chen’s family.

"They’ll leave once the vacation starts, after this semester ends."

"Alright, no problem then." Yan Fei stood up to leave. "When are you leaving? I’m heading back tonight, shall we go together?"

"I still have to wait for the newcomer to do the handover work. It’s hard to say if I can leave in the next day or two." Mayor Chen stood up to see him off. "I will definitely reach out if there’s anything, so don’t worry!"

"Then I won’t wait for you. If they hold a farewell banquet for you later, count me out. Let’s meet in the provincial city. When you arrive, I’ll pick you up—just give me a call anytime." Yan Fei said as he pushed the door open to leave.

"Sure!" Mayor Chen patted his shoulder. "I love your straightforwardness!"

"Haha..."

The two laughed as they walked to the door. Yan Fei thought of telling Mayor Chen to go back but glanced downstairs at the courtyard and sighed, "Considering how things have been in the past two years, this antique courtyard should have been renovated already. Anyone else would have rebuilt it long ago. And now, you’re about to leave, and you haven’t moved into a new courtyard."

"It doesn’t matter; the quality of the township isn’t only about the government courtyard. Besides, this one has a nice antique charm." Mayor Chen smiled. "Leave it for others to renovate slowly; I feel this place has quite a bit of character."

"I’m off then, don’t let me hold you back. Get busy!" Yan Fei didn’t say much more, waved his hand, and went downstairs.

This office building is the newest structure in the courtyard, a two-story building no older than a decade, definitely new enough. But it’s just this one building, while most other houses can truly be called antiques. Some look just like the buildings in the high school courtyard. But now, nobody pays attention to researching the construction period of these buildings; there’s no pavilions or towers, just row after row of houses, which no one finds valuable.

To be honest, if it weren’t for a few large street lamps and chandeliers, this place would be just like that high school campus, especially suitable for shooting horror films at night. Rows of green-grey tiles surrounded by green trees, looking quite eerie come nightfall.

From Yan Fei’s current perspective, there’s hardly any charm here; it’s more of a ghostly vibe.

Driving back to the cattle farm, Yan Fei saw Old Gao pacing in the courtyard. Watching this burly man now turned into an ideal family man made Yan Fei want to laugh. Even after being at the farm for years, his image hasn’t changed much, needing no make-up or tattoos to highlight it; just standing there, he perfectly embodies the image of a big shot on the dark list.

"Old Gao, there’s something in the car. Call Heizi over, you guys can split it. Hurry up and bring it down, I’ll be heading to the county town by noon." With that said, Yan Fei went into the finance office.

Coming back and not entering the finance office feels like a general manager failing their role—at the very least, one should know how much money they have, right?

After a while, Heizi came over joyfully to distribute items to the ladies in the finance office, little trinkets and scarves with bird characters on them. The ladies all expressed their gratitude to Boss Yan, while Heizi, lacking tact, actually asked Yan Fei, "Brother Fei, did you rob a big store in America or something? How come you have everything?"

He guessed it right!

Yan Fei glared at him, "Take it if you want, if you don’t just put it back in my car, I have someone else to give it to."

Heizi, clutching a belt outside his suit, ran off, "I want it, who wouldn’t?"

His comical appearance made everyone in the finance office laugh like flowers. Originally in a smart suit looking all proper, but now with a belt tied outside, making him fit to be a clown. Such joy only appears when Yan Fei is back; normally Heizi could never behave like this—Manager Shi is now a renowned figure in the city, who would dare underestimate him!

After a while, Heizi came over again, and Yan Fei went with him to the fertilizer and leather factories.

Many of the new workers were familiar faces, all from the same township. Boss Yan has a good memory with many acquaintances. Previously, interaction was occasional, but now they are fully under Boss Yan’s command, which naturally feels different, with a bit more respect and admiration—everyone knew Boss Yan was impressive before, but only after joining did they realize how impressive. The business expansion feels like a dream, leaving them in awe!

The river bends southward and then westward, and now this corner is almost entirely occupied by the cattle farm. The factories requiring machinery are in the far west, while the east follows the river with a small path originally used for sand transportation, lined with rows of cattle sheds.

The small sand lane now sees little traffic. Boss Yan’s sand dredger fleet has gained two more ships, making a total of four. Sand needed for transportation goes straight from the bridge, waiting there, no manpower required for loading onto transport.

The original sand-hauling tractors previously required at least one to two helpers besides the driver, now only needing one driver. They arrive, auto-load with sand, then drive off to unload—saving effort and increasing efficiency—especially now that many sand-hauling trucks have automatic unloading features, making it convenient and fast for one person and one truck.

Because the original small road sees no traffic and there’s no road over there, the entire area has become part of the cattle farm. But when walking to the riverbank, Yan Fei started contemplating while looking at that river.

Seeing this, Heizi curiously asked, "What’s up, Brother Fei, missing the lady?"

He had walked this road before; Yan Fei used to carry Xu Xiaoyan across the river here.

After pondering for a while, Yan Fei said, "If we built a bridge here, wouldn’t it cut the distance to our Meat Processing Factory to just over ten miles?"

"Definitely, it’s not that far originally." Heizi nodded, comprehending Yan Fei’s idea. "Brother Fei, are you planning to?"

"Yes!" Yan Fei nodded. "Later, check if there are any proper roads after crossing the river; most have to use narrow paths on embankments. Probably have to deal with the suburban towns for road construction, so you run around with this. If it’s feasible, we’ll build both the road and the bridge."

Actually, from this location, the due south point is directly opposite the Meat Processing Factory. Yan Fei, familiar from countless flights overhead, realized how much convenience a new road would provide for their people.

The old road to the provincial city has deteriorated, with only patches around villages maintained. Most folks are accustomed to the new road, but the new path stretches forty miles from Sancha River Town to the county, much farther.

"But after the road is built, won’t all the big and small vehicles disrupt cattle farming here?" After nodding in agreement, Heizi thought of a new problem. "Also, if this road reaches the county, their side has a toll station. If everyone uses this route, won’t their toll station be displeased?"

"This road we’re making is only for our own folks," Yan Fei casually commented. "If it affects the cattle, gradually move the farm further from the road. As for deterring external vehicles, charge them a toll as well. Provide village folks with free passes for their vehicles if they’re registered here, easy as that. You can figure out the details later; just get it done right. If space becomes tight here, we’ll expand across the river later on..."

Such ambition! Given that this place already spans over ten thousand acres, Yan Fei remains unsatisfied, his sights now set beyond the river.
