Chapter 1723: Chapter 818: Repairing Bridges and Paving Roads

Teacher Qi definitely supports Yan Fei’s investment in pharmaceutical research.

Yan Fei has always believed that once he starts something, he must do it well. If that wasn’t the case, he wouldn’t have sent medicine from the Dinosaur World to let the two elders try it first. Since he started, he does it earnestly, like raising cattle.

But Boss Yan is no longer the naive rookie he once was. When making this decision, he contemplated an issue, which is the problem of "having a treasure brings guilt."

To put it seriously, the universally accepted principle of "having a treasure brings guilt" is essentially the world’s greatest malice. Including sayings like "a child holding money passes through the market," are the best reflections of humanity’s evil side.

When a company grows, it encounters various tricks like ’investment’ splits, acquisitions, and Yan Fei has seen them all. Many enterprises don’t consider these situations in their early stages of entrepreneurship, and eventually, when they barely start, they get ’invested,’ and a good project ends up in a mess for various reasons.

If Yan Fei’s medicine indeed proves effective, everyone with a basic sense would understand what would happen once it’s released.

Therefore, Yan Fei also considered the question of whether he could protect the product once it’s launched.

The answer is: Yes!

He’s been flying around everywhere, handling so many things, treating Japan like his own vegetable garden, picking what he wants. Up until now, nothing has happened, right? Even the supposedly mighty America just stares blankly, still clueless till now.

With such confidence, Yan Fei dares to unveil the medication and let people test the results first.

Moreover, the main ingredient of the medicine comes from the Dinosaur World—imitation routes are likely unmanageable for a short while. Maybe eventually someone will reproduce it, but ’mysterious events’ are always awaiting; more labor is never a problem. With this, there’s no fear that someone could truly snatch away his business.

When talking with Teacher Qi, Yan Fei only mentioned the laboratory’s pharmaceutical research without mentioning his ’miracle drug.’ Even so, Teacher Qi seemed deeply pleased.

"I’ll give you a surprise when your laboratory is completed," Teacher Qi said with a smile after Yan Fei had finished speaking.

"What surprise?" Yan Fei asked in disbelief.

"Just wait, anyway, you’re too lazy to handle this mess. I’ll tell you when there’s a result," Teacher Qi said, keeping it mysterious.

"Alright then!" Yan Fei gave in, stood up, and prepared to go see the town.

When he arrived in town, he noticed that many people’s faces didn’t look too good; their smiles appeared slightly forced. He knew what everyone was thinking.

Mayor Chen advanced from mayor to secretary in Sancha River, which is part of the reason some people still habitually call him mayor. It seems ’Mayor’ has become his name. Anyway, those who know him realize he doesn’t mind the title. His character is well represented by people’s reactions upon hearing about his transfer. Such feelings cannot be feigned easily.

When Yan Fei arrived at the office, Mayor Chen was the only one there. Seeing Yan Fei, he quickly stood up, rebuking: "You’re in school, how come you’ve come back? I’m just transferring somewhere else. We can still see each other in the future."

"Just here to see, haha." Yan Fei didn’t know what to say, and felt there wasn’t much point in exchanging hypocritical pleasantries with someone he’s been getting along with for years and has dined at Mayor’s house more than once or twice. It’d be meaningless to say anything else.

Yan Fei had little to say, but Mayor Chen had much: "I’ve heard that the new mayor is quite capable and has backing. This is an opportunity for our town; collaborate with him when possible and strive to elevate the town’s economy further. You know the incoming person, like Officer Xu, probably won’t stay long, so on certain matters... prioritize the bigger picture as you should."

"Uh-huh," Yan Fei nodded perfunctorily.

"With your attitude, I might just stay on!" Mayor Chen said with a smile. "My position won’t change much regardless of who comes. Whatever their intentions, the common goal is to boost the town’s economy. They wouldn’t rashly make any excessive demands when they first arrive. As long as the general direction isn’t off, other aspects can pretty much be aligned, right?"

Watching Sancha River develop from a poverty-stricken area to a prosperous town, seeing the countryside lead the way in paving asphalt roads in multiple villages, observing the change from monotonous clothes to vibrant attire in the market, it’d be a lie if Mayor Chen claimed he felt no affection towards this place.

Most of these changes are owed to the cattle farm’s daily gold flow. But this brings another issue: the town’s economy heavily relies on Boss Yan’s farm. Boss Yan, being young and vigorous, if the newcomer doesn’t get along with him, it could indeed be troublesome—even the simplest refusal to cooperate disrupts everything.

Comrade Old Chen, before leaving, had little concern but this one problem. Sancha River’s current favorable condition could be greatly undermined for some reason, which truly makes it not just a pity...

This is much like Teacher Qi not wanting Yan Fei to eventually become a nouveau riche who only knows how to make money. Mayor Chen also hopes that after he leaves, Sancha River could one day become nationally known as a prosperous town; even though it would no longer concern him, reminiscing such an achievement is still a rewarding thought!
