Experience had shown Heizi that the race between two legs and four, even if those four legs belonged to a cow, wasn’t going to be easily won. Especially since he climbed out of the river still wet all over, clothes clinging to him, making it impossible to run fast.

After running for a while, he was puffing heavily and had to pause to catch his breath. When he looked up ahead, Heizi was so furious he almost exploded on the spot.

It wasn’t that people weren’t willing to help. It was just that anyone could see that the cow was too cunning, clearly doing this on purpose. If Heizi stopped, it stopped. When it stopped, it would moo at Heizi. It was blatantly provocative!

This went on until they reached the cattle farm. Heizi was both exhausted and angry. While tiredness could be put aside, this indignation was hard to subdue. Being toyed with by a cow all the way, who wouldn’t be mad? He sat in the yard without caring about the cow. Seeing his pitiful state, Fang Xiaoqing brought him a bowl of water.

Xu Xiaoyan laughed so hard she almost burst. Heizi became even more frustrated when he saw that the calf he pursued all the way had run over to Yan Fei and was now standing right next to him.

Right now it was peacefully standing by Yan Fei’s side, with Xu Xiaoyan patting its head, its ears flicking back and forth. The tail was wagging and the big cow’s eyes were wandering around, looking utterly innocent.

At this moment, Heizi regretted yelling at Fang Xiaoqing out of anger, speaking ill of the cow. Now she had sold him out clean.

This embarrassing event was enough to be immortalized in memory. It was a blot on his image. Now that everyone knew about it, he foresaw that he wouldn’t be able to lift his head up for some time whenever this incident was brought up. Feeling ridiculous and laughed at, Heizi got up and left.

The moment he stood up, the calf standing next to Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan also moved. It carefully took a few steps back, hiding behind Yan Fei, with its big eyes staring at Heizi. Its nostrils were trembling slightly, as though ready to run the moment he chased.

Out of the four people present, three split their sides with laughter. Heizi was left fuming. Pointing at the calf, he said angrily, "You devil, be prepared. There will come a day when I will settle accounts with you."

After shouting that, he left dispiritedly for the inner yard. He knew that he couldn’t catch up with the cow, or even if he did, Xu Xiaoyan wouldn’t let him hit it. She had just been worried about the calf’s injured leg!

After Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan laughed for a while, they began to prepare dinner. It was a bit early, but they had just had a quick and frugal lunch. Since they had nothing else to do, might as well make an early dinner.

During the meal, while Xu Xiaoyan was excitedly sharing funny stories she heard from her classmates, Yan Fei suddenly said to her, "In the next few days, I’ll be sending someone to propose to your family."

It wasn’t a discussion. It was just him simply stating the fact.

"Mm." Under the somewhat dim yellow light, the once clear eyes of the girl were foggy. As if being uncomfortable sitting, she shifted awkwardly and responded with a low "Mm."

Then, the girl seemed to fall into a daze, as if she was lost in another world. She didn’t know what Yan Fei was saying or asking, all she did was respond shallowly with a nod or a grunt.

The rest of the mealtime became strange due to the girl’s reaction.

After they had finished eating and cleaned up, she said that she had to go.

Seeing her still in a daze even now, Yan Fei dared not say much. He obediently pushed his motorcycle out and drove her home.

Although he had lived with his grandfather since childhood and they were neighbours with Old Xu’s family, the relationship between the two households was rather plain. If it weren’t for Xu Xiaoyan, apart from saying hello when they met, their two families would likely never have anything to do with each other.

Soon, he decided not to bother thinking about it anymore. He strolled to a remote spot by the river, spread his wings, and was soon soaring in the sky.

Just having nothing to do, he wanted to fly in the sky, considering it as a post-meal hundred-step walk. While others walk a hundred steps after a meal, he flies.

Flying against the wind was similar to people swimming in water. As long as you mastered the skill, it would hardly exhaust you. With wings spread open, it made for a delightful flight.

It wasn’t until dusk set in that Yan Fei leisurely began his flight back to the cattle farm.

As he was about to land near the cattle farm, he was startled to see Xu Xiaoyan outside again.
