Chapter 1703: Chapter 807 Hand_2
Meng Si’an admired his shameless resilience: "Don’t worry, I would never show up empty-handed and still act all righteous like you. If I ever forgot to bring you a gift, I just wouldn’t tell you I was back at all..."
The two of them chatted idly for a while. Yan Fei didn’t ask if Meng Si’an’s beef shop was ready yet; it was still early, no need to rush. Besides, if Meng Si’an couldn’t even set up a shop, then all those years he lived in the Capital were for nothing.
Then Yan Fei called his wife, talking all the way to the highway entrance. A highway patrol officer in uniform spotted his one-hand-on-the-phone, one-hand-on-the-wheel maneuver and repeatedly gestured for him to pay attention.
He got onto the highway and continued chatting with his wife on the phone until the battery finally died. Tossing the phone into "Dinosaur World," he told the workers to swiftly fetch him a replacement so he could keep talking. After all, the road was long, and considering a bad feeling he had earlier, flying wasn’t part of the plan this time.
By the time he arrived home in the afternoon, before he could open the door, it was already opened from the inside.
His wife stood in the doorway, looking radiant: "I took a half-day off just to wait for you. Knowing you wouldn’t have eaten, I made you some steamed noodles; they’re still warm in the pot! You go eat first, I’ll park the car."
After days of letting himself go and causing chaos outside, returning home to such a simple statement instantly made Yan Fei feel grounded: "Alright then, I’ll go eat first!"
"Mhm!" She nudged him to hurry inside. "Go eat something quick, don’t let yourself starve."
While pushing him inside, she also nudged and kicked the dogs loitering nearby: "Move it! Don’t get in the way!"
By the time she parked the car, Yan Fei was already happily squatting at the doorway with a small bowl of steamed noodles and a clove of garlic in hand, grinning as he watched her get out of the car.
Seeing the silly look on his face, she couldn’t help but laugh: "Yan Xiaofei, what are you grinning about like a fool? There are chairs inside—don’t tell me you’re jealous of the dogs?"
And why wouldn’t he be? The few dogs were squatting at the bottom of the steps, staring at him longingly with drool practically hanging down to the ground.
But Yan Fei knew better. These guys definitely weren’t eyeing his little bowl of noodles; they were after dinosaur meat. Usually, his wife was reluctant to feed them meat every time she was home.
Yan Fei just grinned foolishly at his wife and wolfed down the love-filled noodles. After washing the pot and bowls and drying his hands, he approached her wanting a hug: "Haven’t kissed you in days, come on, give me a kiss..."
"No way!" Startled, she turned and fled. "Look at your mouth all greasy! No way am I letting you kiss me!"
"I’ll go brush my teeth, then..." Just as Yan Fei was saying this, his phone suddenly rang.
One glance told him it was Yang Xing. Seems like Yang had estimated his arrival home just right and dialed promptly: "Xiaofei, uh, you home yet?"
"Yep, I’m home. I’m just setting up the computer; I’ll get to work once it’s ready," Yan Fei said as he squeezed toothpaste onto his brush with one hand.
"Uh..." Yang Xing hesitated, not knowing what to say. Urging him might make him seem too pushy, but not urging—it made his own anxiety unbearable. "Alright, then. I won’t bother you anymore. When you’re done, give me a call."
"Got it!" Yan Fei hung up and quickly brushed his teeth. The computer could wait!
His wife was sitting in the living room, absently clicking the mouse every few seconds and occasionally glancing to the side...
Not even three minutes later, he emerged with a goofy grin, scooped her into his arms, and dashed upstairs. Surprisingly, she only struggled a little at first before closing her eyes...
...
Night fell in the blink of an eye. His wife peeked out from under the covers, her face glowing red: "Hungry? Should we go cook something? It’s already dark."
"Are you hungry?" Yan Fei asked back.
"A little."
"Then I’ll get up. You stay here and rest." Yan Fei got up briskly and went to make dinner.
After dinner, the two of them tidied up, and then... dawn arrived...
Early in the morning, his wife was shaking her wrist while watching Yan Fei cook, her face still rosy with shyness. She wore an amused, playful, and curious expression. Her look was so tempting that even with Yan Fei’s professional chef skills, making a simple breakfast took over an hour.
If time hadn’t been pressing, breakfast might’ve taken even longer.
Yan Fei ate his meal happily. Absence truly makes the heart grow fonder—after being away, he felt his progress toward certain goals had taken a big leap forward. His smile, directed at his wife, didn’t fade the whole time, making her slightly embarrassed.
Once she finished her last few bites of food, she put down her chopsticks and stood up: "I’m off to school!"
"Mm-hm, I’ll drive you," Yan Fei said, immediately standing. "I won’t be able to go to the school for a few days. I picked up a lot of new knowledge while out—I need time to organize it."
"If you’re so busy, why did you still..." She playfully complained, blushing. "Don’t drive me; I’ll go by myself."
"No way, I insist," Yan Fei said firmly. "Come on, we’re short on time. If you ride your e-bike, you’ll definitely be late."
Dragging her with him, Yan Fei drove her to school, the car also loaded with computers. Only after seeing her into class did he head home to unpack and set up the computers, placing them neatly beside the one in the living room.
Once the setup was finished, he did a quick round in the lab and delivered a laptop each to the lab director and the injured Teacher Yu.
Both were a little embarrassed but still accepted the gifts hesitantly. Knowing Yan Fei’s style—he was straightforward with no pretense—they didn’t attempt to decline further.
Back in his room, Yan Fei grabbed a hard drive and imported everything he’d worked on in Dinosaur World over the past few days, transferring it to his newly purchased computer. He spent the morning working meticulously, filling in details he’d missed before. Back in Dinosaur World, time had been tight, so he’d only jotted down major points, worried he’d forget something later.
At noon, he picked up his wife for lunch, dropped her back to school, and returned to continue working.
Supplementing and organizing the data was a massive task. There was too much information—those supercomputers in Dinosaur World contained an abundance of valuable content!
He worked until the evening when he went to pick her up again. Only then did he stop for the night. Despite yesterday’s ’breakthrough’ in certain matters, young people’s energy is boundless—and Yan Fei, being a monster-level anomaly, had only just begun to savor his newfound pleasures. Work? Who could focus on that now?
His wife worried about his physical health, recalling her sore wrist, but couldn’t resist his playful persistence...
Over the next week, Yan Fei focused on organizing his work. He also couldn’t bear the thought of making someone slog overtime unnecessarily because of his oversight, especially when they could never dream of affording a car like his.
Furthermore, he intended to sell his results. A single mistake could tarnish his reputation!
Occasionally, Yang Xing would call, but he dared not be too pushy. Sensing Yan Fei’s engrossed state, Yang would exchange a few casual words before hanging up.
Whenever Yan Fei felt cooped up, he’d visit Dinosaur World to relax and clear his head.
By week’s end, he had completed his tasks and backed everything up on another hard drive. Holding the drive, he felt immensely proud. He had even made another trip to the tech market to buy two new keyboards—they were just too fragile; every time he got impatient, a key would end up broken.
That afternoon, after picking up his wife, Yan Fei was in an exceptionally good mood: "Let’s go to the zoo."
Xu Xiaoyan, aware of his hard work that week, smiled and nodded: "Alright!"
There wasn’t much to see—it was the middle of winter, and aside from the holly trees and pines, most plants were just barren branches. Still, the couple held hands and strolled around as if simply enjoying each other’s company.
After wandering for a while, they spent another affectionate evening together. Early the next morning, Yan Fei took the hard drive and prepared to head to the Capital.
Driving onto the highway, he pulled out his phone and dialed Chief Pi: "Chief Pi, this is too much! Running into you guys in America was one thing, but now you’re following me even here in the Capital. I’ve stayed holed up all week, and the moment I step out, someone’s tailing me again. What are you after?"
Chief Pi was stunned for a moment: "What are you talking about?"
"It’s not you?" Yan Fei was more surprised than he was. "I’ve noticed someone following me for a while now. Check if they’re your people. If not, I won’t hold back!"
"Don’t get worked up. Let me check into it," Chief Pi said helplessly, worried this lawless guy might actually cause trouble.
