Chapter 1695: Chapter 804: Preparing to Return Home
Bad guys aren’t necessarily stupid; on the contrary, many of them have brains that work remarkably well.
So after Boss Yan made his immortal contribution to the local security in Sacks State, his self-reliance plan progressed very smoothly.
For Boss Yan, this kind of work was just grunt labor—basically, move, move, move. Security systems were completely useless to him. People like Leobert had been providing safe routes for the big boss to enter, but when they first arrived at Dahe Base, they had no idea the big boss never needed any of that.
As long as he knew the exact location of the items, nothing could hinder Boss Yan’s progress.
No.1 Coolie and his crew had a much tougher time. At first, it was gold bars, gold bricks, cash, and jewelry. Boss Yan worked tirelessly all night, leaving them to sort out the warehouse for two sleepless days. Just when they finally finished, in came a whole pile of documents.
The team was a bit dumbfounded. Most of the people No.1 Coolie brought along were Japanese, and they were originally cowherds from the first batch of ranch workers. Faced with those English documents, most of them felt as if they were looking at hieroglyphs. They ended up fetching a few American soldiers for help.
The soldiers examined the documents and immediately declared, "We recognize all the individual words, but when they’re strung together, it’s like they suddenly stop talking to us... Honestly, we don’t get it."
Some people had a bit of familiarity, like a few technicians who used to work on aircraft carriers, but even they couldn’t fully understand the material. At best, they could make out a rough idea of its purpose, but they couldn’t properly categorize it.
So No.1 Coolie was very troubled—there really weren’t many qualified experts around.
This was purely Boss Yan’s own oversight. He figured he’d never lack grunt labor, and besides, he wasn’t planning to use the documents himself, so the idea of bringing engineers into the dinosaur world never even crossed his mind.
Another issue was that it was late at night, making it difficult to find people. Boss Yan tended to head straight for the storage sites, and his bad luck meant he didn’t encounter any suitable individuals—security personnel, for instance, were too much hassle, so he simply flew over and did it himself.
Labor brings happiness!
After pulling an all-nighter as a mover, Yan Fei cheerfully followed Yang Xing to Carter’s lab once again.
A positive demeanor always leaves a great impression. Professor Hans and Yang Xing were thoroughly satisfied with Yan Fei’s consistently energized state every morning—so satisfied they couldn’t be more content.
Initially, Professor Hans would talk shop with Yang Xing during their travels, but now he was actively initiating conversations with Yan Fei. It was evident that someone who constantly maintained high energy and could spend an entire day engrossed in boring technical knowledge was exactly the type of young person greatly admired by experts and professors.
Even Professor Carter’s impression of Yan Fei improved significantly. The Torres couple couldn’t help but sigh, "Youth is wonderful!"
Indeed, while the others spent their days buried in research, Yan Fei’s performance was keenly observed. His diligence, eagerness to learn, and tireless pursuit of knowledge were undoubtedly his most appreciated traits.
Professor Carter couldn’t resist a fondness for talented individuals. At lunch, he casually tested Yan Fei on some technical concepts. These were subjects recorded exclusively on his own computer, ones he was confident Yan Fei had never encountered before.
Professor Hans watched with an amused expression, saying nothing. From Carter’s first question, he had understood his old friend’s intentions. But he refrained from mentioning that he knew Yan Fei had once received an invitation from Cambridge University.
As Carter’s questions became more in-depth, Hans’s smile gradually faded. In his heart remained only amazement and a deep sense of disappointment—this young genius, unfortunately, wasn’t his student.
Yan Fei didn’t even need to read documents word by word anymore. He would glance over them and store the content in his memory as if capturing a photo. It was like taking snapshots with his mind.
This speed was simply unattainable for ordinary people. In the evening, he’d consolidate the records at an astonishing pace to reinforce his memory—though realistically, he couldn’t finish everything and had to prioritize the key points. His memory was far faster than typing on a keyboard.
At first, Carter’s questions were simple, but as they progressed, he couldn’t help venturing deeper. What shocked him wasn’t just that Yan Fei could answer everything; it was that Yan Fei was reciting the standard responses without truly understanding them. Legendary feats of memory were often spoken about, but individuals with such extraordinary recall were exceedingly rare.
Then Carter suddenly stopped asking questions!
The lunch table fell into momentary silence, and everyone went about their work for the afternoon.
That evening, when Carter was seeing Yan Fei and the others off, he suddenly told Yan Fei, "What you’re doing here—before you leave, it’s best if you don’t mention it to anyone else."
Although he was speaking to Yan Fei, Yang Xing immediately grasped the implication and reassured Carter, "We’re just staying at the hotel, spending the days here and returning at night to sleep. We won’t be in contact with anyone else."
Hans smiled faintly without saying a word. Carter hesitated, his lips pressing together briefly before he couldn’t resist saying to Yan Fei, "If you’d like to come to Stanford University, I believe you wouldn’t need to take any undergraduate courses. I could arrange for you to join directly as my graduate student. It’d save you a lot of time..."
Hans laughed aloud from the sidelines. "Haha, well, let him think about it first! Remember, Cambridge University once sent him an admission offer, but he wasn’t interested. Don’t assume he’s just an ordinary student—he’s actually a wealthy farm owner, incredibly wealthy."
