Chapter 1677: Chapter 795: Grand Celebration in 6 Cities_3

At this moment, her bumbling assistant finally reacted: "Helen, are you saying the robbery might happen in our city too?"

"Perhaps," Helen answered uncertainly. "Anyway, we should be prepared, just in case..."

Before she could finish her sentence, faint sirens could be heard in the distance. Soon, a string of police cars arrived, and one by one, heavily armed personnel stepped out and surrounded the bank, sealing it off tightly.

Moments later, even the bank’s own armed guards showed up, encasing the already tightly surrounded bank in an even denser perimeter.

"Maybe the robbery will happen in the gambling city," Helen’s assistant muttered in disbelief as he stared at the armed personnel finishing their deployment.

By now, the two of them had been pushed a bit further away from the bank, but clearly, the spot they were standing at was still decent—of course, it was only when the later-arriving reporters showed up did they realize how fortunate their position was. Without comparison, they hadn’t realized the advantage of arriving earlier.

Upon hearing her assistant’s remark, Helen didn’t say much. Because her assistant had said one more sentence, the armed personnel, tense and on edge with the sound of the wind and the cry of the stork, glared at them angrily; she feared that if she said anything more, they’d be directly expelled from the area.

Minutes ticked by, and on the street lit only by the flashing police lights, nothing happened, leaving people with the sense that maybe things had been blown out of proportion—in truth, everyone was hoping this operation really was an overreaction.

In the early hours of the morning, everyone was still forcing themselves to stay alert, carefully keeping watch.

Finally, the eastern sky began to brighten. At this moment, early risers had started jogging toward the nearby park, and all those on edge couldn’t hold back the relief that secretly washed over them.

"Stand down!"

With that order issued, the city’s security forces dispersed as if granted amnesty. The armed personnel, who had been barely holding on, instantly slumped into exhaustion.

Thank heavens, this time, they’d gotten through the night safely!

No one had the energy to dwell on how the robberies occurred or who could orchestrate such a string of connected heists. All they wanted now was to rush home and collapse into the embraced comfort of their beds.

Watching the overhead lights stop flashing as the vehicles rolled away, the bank’s internal security guards also cleared out with visible relief. One after another, they started leaving in their cars. Though nothing had happened, keeping their guard up all night had been draining enough.

Gradually, even Helen’s fellow reporters who had shown up on a gamble started leaving with grins on their faces. They’d come to try their luck, and since luck wasn’t on their side, heading home to sleep seemed like the next best option.

"Helen, we should go too! God bless Fresno—can we finally go get some rest now? You know, if we don’t make it to the newsroom on time, that old lech won’t let us off the hook." Her assistant spoke up, unable to hold back any longer, seeing Helen still showed no intention of leaving even after everyone else started clearing out.

Helen glanced at her slim, delicate-looking male assistant and suddenly felt amused. A lecher was a lecher—as for herself, she originally thought his harassment stemmed from her own striking appearance. But when even her male assistant started receiving unwanted advances, she gained a deeper understanding of the kind of disgust that word entails...

"Fine!" Helen suppressed the nausea rising within her at the thought of the old lech and smiled. "Although we didn’t catch the story, at least it proves, God bless Fresno..."

"Boom!"

Before she could finish her sentence, Helen felt her entire insides tremble violently. Her foot faltered mid-step, and she stumbled, slamming into the car door.

The alarm systems on her car went berserk, echoing alongside the clamoring alarms of nearby vehicles...

This was the sixth city!
