Chapter 163: Chapter 39 Discussion Agreement_1
On the last day before submitting college preference forms, Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan had a series of friendly discussions about selling the bull and decided to take the bull for sale while submitting their college applications the next day.
Well, actually, while other students who had taken the college entrance exam were busy estimating their scores and pondering over their preferred colleges, these two were carelessly mumbling about selling the bull.
The sun went from the east to directly overhead, then directly headed west to the mountains.
Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan spent the whole day together. By mealtime, Xu Xiaoyan was no longer eating here. She took a casual glance outside, gasped, looked at her watch, and quickly stood up: "Oh no, it’s too late, I said I’d go home early for dinner."
"Why are you going back for dinner? Can’t you go back after dinner?" Yan Fei asked puzzlingly.
"You don’t understand, I got scolded for coming back too late last night. It is what it is, don’t ask anymore. Hurry up and take me home!" she said anxiously.
"Alright then!" Yan Fei hastily moved to prepare the motorcycle to take her home, also agreeing on a time to pick her up the next day.
Thinking about it, they were both young and lived right next-door, so it was quite convenient. Being late to go home wasn’t a big deal, as there’s just a wall between them. Now that Xu Xiaoyan has graduated from high school, girls her age in rural areas who don’t study anymore would already have kids.
For a grown-up girl to constantly visit another boy’s home, it draws attention, let alone coming back late at night, and that certainly invites criticism. Unless they are officially together, then such fuss would be unnecessary.
After seeing off Xu Xiaoyan, Yan Fei didn’t even eat dinner. He rode his motorcycle straight to the county town.
This was his first time formally riding his unlicensed motorcycle into town, not because the motorcycle was fast, but he felt that riding it made him look more adult-like, which would make it easier to tell his parents about him and Xu Xiaoyan.
This trivial plan was actually useless. In their parents’ eyes, it wouldn’t matter how old he was, even if he flew back in an airplane, they would still see him as a child.
The motorcycle roared into the family members’ yard of the fertilizer factory, and the crowd on the side couldn’t help but admire the magnificent sight.
But Yan Fei didn’t have time to waste with these "idle people", he went straight home.
His parents were watching a TV drama with Yan Chao! It was the most popular Swordsman drama from last year, the story was about a young couple raising a large eagle. it was suitable for all ages. Thus, it was being broadcast on one TV station after another, there were always viewers whenever it was on.
For example, Yan Chao was holding a backscratcher as if it were a sword, making whooshing sound effects with his mouth.
Yan Fei didn’t wait for his parents to ask anything. He first silenced Yan Chao with a watermelon, then bursts out everything he had discussed with Ma Yongming hurriedly and waited for his parents to give their opinions.
His father began to speak. He pondered for a moment, probably organizing his thoughts on how to phrase his response, then started, "We’ve discussed this. Initially, we did worry a bit because the girl is quite older than you. But now, hearing what you said, I don’t find this a problem."
He then turned to Yanfei’s mom and asked, "what do you think?"
Yanfei’s mom, a decisive person, responded directly, "What do I think? Didn’t we already agree? I’ve always thought she was a good girl, and she genuinely likes Xiao Fei. Being older is not a problem, she can take better care of him when she comes back after university."
Yan Fei’s tight face suddenly beamed. Although he had already made up his mind, he still hoped for his parents’ support. Now that he got the answer he wanted, he felt extra delighted.
Yanfei’s father nodded, "That’s right. Even if she decides not to come back after graduating from university, Xiao Fei is still young and can find someone else. It’ll just be a matter of reputation, but we don’t worry about that. Have you thought about this?"
The last sentence was addressed to Yan Fei. But it was a redundant question, as Yan Fei and Xu Xiaoyan were always together, how could he have considered this possibility? After hearing these words, Yan Fei was actually displeased: "She is never not coming back! And what’s wrong with her being a bit older than me, isn’t it just like the couple on the TV? The man in the drama even addresses the woman as aunty! Surely she must be older!"
"Come on, you silly boy, you can’t compare to these two?" Yanfei’s mom spat twice to indicate Yan Fei’s words were childish. "They are so wretched! One missing an arm, the other one was violated... we can not compare ourselves to them! You and Xu Xiaoyan grew up together, and you are going to spend many years together without comparing yourselves to them. Now, you too, spit twice!"
Yan Fei obediently spat twice, but he was quite bewildered.
A moment ago, Yanfei’s mom was on the edge for the two leads in the TV drama, gasping at every turn of events, wishing she could jump into the TV screen to help. How did these two turn into a tragic pair in her mouth now?
Yanfei’s father sat by silently, his face twitching, it was unclear what kind of expression he was trying to show.
This is the mother’s perspective. They can cry and empathize with the joys and sorrows of others, but when it comes to their own children, they do not appreciate earth-shaking achievements or gut-wrenching love. They even fear it, hoping their children can live a peaceful life and age peacefully.
Yan Fei didn’t understand this emotion yet, but he could at least feel his mother’s anxiety was out of concern for him, otherwise, she wouldn’t have been so pretentious and spat twice amidst Yanfei’s father’s strange expressions.
Getting distracted caused them to ramble, they finally returned to the discussion about college choices.
Yanfei’s father, who probably didn’t consider this issue carefully before, pondered for quite a while this time and said, "I think! Based on our county’s previous college entrance exam scores, not many could make it to the colleges in the Capital. The Provincial University might be a bit lacking but it’s still among the top universities in the province. Also, studying within the province, in terms of lifestyle and everything else, is generally easier to adapt to."
"Yes, I agree, there is no need for a girl to go so far away. She could stay close to home, so Xiao Fei can go and see her whenever he is free." Yanfei’s mom chimed in.
In reality, Yanfei’s mom didn’t understand much about what it’s like at a university, but her stance was quite clear. When it comes to her own child’s affairs, she is on their side regardless.
