Chapter 1627: Chapter 775: The House Has Collapsed Before the Building Fell Down

"What’s going on, what happened?"

"The police station is out to make arrests!"

"Did they finally nab Ma Zi, that bastard should’ve been arrested a long time ago..."

"Exactly, they should lock him up and never let him out!"

"Keep it down, what if they release him after a few days?"

"Mm-hmm..."

Dogs in the countryside are always quick to respond to a call; when one starts barking, the whole village joins in. In the blink of an eye, many people were awakened, and then some started to emerge, carrying shovels and the like to check out the situation.

The police on lookout, seeing a number of shadowy figures emerging, quickly gave a signal for everyone to go, and the officers inside handcuffed three people and pulled them towards the exit.

But when they emerged from the informant Ma Zi’s house, everyone was a bit puzzled—no one was crowding around here!

When they heard the gossip, everyone calmed down.

Nobody knows how many heinous deeds Ma Zi, that scumbag, has done, but as people came out and saw that arrests were being made at Ma Zi’s house, they consciously stopped in their tracks, and some even felt they were too close and quickly retreated to even darker spots.

Those who had flashlights and headlamps turned them off in haste, and there were even a few bolder individuals who found spots dark and safe enough to discreetly shine their flashlights to light the way for the police.

Yan Fei witnessed this and formed a new opinion of Ma Zi’s character; the man was truly scum. To be so hated by his own villagers was no small feat indeed!

Just now, Yan Fei hadn’t gotten an answer to who was the mastermind behind the scenes. Those two, daring enough to commit assault with a motorcycle in Provincial City, were also audacious. They might have been crying for their parents when they were beaten, but when they saw the police coming, they actually became fearless!

Being caught by the police meant they’d go through the normal legal process, and be sentenced based on the victim’s circumstances. Besides, they were hired by someone else, and as long as they didn’t snitch on the mastermind, even if they were sentenced, they would get some form of compensation.

On the other hand, if it weren’t for the police but just Yan Fei coming out to beat them up harshly, they would be afraid. Because in the case of revenge, the consequences would be unpredictable. People like them surely offended others on a regular basis, and if they encountered a Reckless Youth willing to broke up with them, they would be terrified.

Now that they were arrested, the two men immediately became a lot calmer. Taking advantage of occasional flashes of light from the surroundings and realizing there were many people around, they extinguished any thoughts of escape and became quite cooperative.

To prevent collusion and to differentiate the informer, the three handcuffed men were put into three separate cars. Given Yan Fei’s earlier conduct, coupled with the fact that he wasn’t a law enforcement officer, he could no longer be in contact with the two suspects.

Yan Fei wasn’t in a hurry to get the answer he wanted. It didn’t really bother him; as long as he found these two, he was confident they would eventually reveal the mastermind. Once inside the station, there would be ways to make them talk.

Once they started talking, and the mastermind was identified, even if they allowed the mastermind to run for a while, there would always be a chance to find him, no matter where he hid.

Once back at the police station, Yan Fei waited for Ma Zi to record a statement before he could leave, and then he took Ma Zi directly to his car. He took out twenty stacks of crisp banknotes, found a snake skin bag to put them in: "This is yours. Later, go inside and write me a receipt to prove that my reward has been claimed."

Ma Zi was still a bit scared: "Brother, if I just take this money and leave, won’t those two take revenge on my family?"

"Don’t worry, it’s still uncertain whether they’ll have an ’after’. I guarantee they won’t have the time to take revenge on you, you’ll be fine even if you don’t leave," Yan Fei confidently replied. "Take the money and go write me a receipt. If you’re still worried, you can always keep tabs on their whereabouts later on."

Ma Zi hesitated for only a moment longer before abstaining from further questioning, driven by his greed to persevere with even one question was already something; gazing at the bag of money, he was anything but impatient. At this moment, he ’forgot’ his earlier statement that if even he was caught and didn’t let those two know he was the informer, he would demand twenty thousand less.

Having Ma Zi take the lead, the two returned to the police’s lobby where Yan Fei got paper and a pen, and had Ma Zi write out a receipt in front of everyone.

At this moment, apart from those in the interrogation rooms, even those who had just participated in the arrest were in the lobby—waiting for the interrogation results, ready to go out and make more arrests if the case wasn’t resolved, as they couldn’t leave until it was cracked.

Now, those looking at the rat-like Ma Zi felt both revulsion and envy. Revulsion was normal; law enforcement officers despised those who skirted the edge of the law and might be brought in for a visit at any time. Envy was strictly because of that two hundred thousand; such easy money, all from a phone call.

As for Ma Zi being the informant who helped crack the case, no one felt grateful. They all knew he did it for the money, and that was worlds apart from those genuinely concerned about public security.

Though aware he wasn’t welcome, Ma Zi wasn’t foolish; it was still early, and there was time before the banks open. He wasn’t daft enough to walk out now with a bag of money. He didn’t dare linger in the lobby, but once out at the guard post, he found a wind-sheltered spot to squat, seeming prepared to stay until dawn.

Yan Fei stuffed the receipt into his pocket without ceremony, found a corner in the lobby to sit down, looking very much like he wouldn’t leave until the case was clear. Others knew that he was not only wealthy but also had a temper. After a few vain attempts at persuading him, they let it be. Anyways, interrogation was underway, success would likely bring results before dawn.
