Carrying a Jurassic on me

Chapter 1613: Chapter 769: Rating Issue_2

"Just tell me directly how much money we’re talking about?" Yan Fei interrupted him. "I only look at results, not processes. As long as you have a way, I’ll pay for it. As long as we can smoothly get the rating certificate, nothing else matters."

"I object." Ivan suddenly interjected. "Anderson, I think $500,000, including shipping costs, will leave you with a sufficient profit margin. A flat fee; if it goes over this price, Yan Fei, I’m against you spending so much."

"Ivan?" Anderson seemed very annoyed. "I think even as friends, you shouldn’t be freely giving your opinions while we’re negotiating a trade."

"No, now I suddenly feel a bit of regret, I shouldn’t have called Yan over." Ivan said. "And your asking price, it’s way too outrageous. Do you know how much an AK costs? Just $250 and you can have a fully automatic thirty-round AK, assuredly produced by an official military factory, continuous firing..."

"No no no, my friend, we are talking about a serious business deal, not arms trading," Anderson interrupted him. "If you keep speaking, I think ’OSH’ will soon be inviting us to leave the country. This is a willing buyer, willing seller deal, right? My price isn’t outrageous, what do you think, Yan?"

"No, I find Ivan’s words more credible," Yan Fei shook his head. "$500,000, not a penny more. And I choose to pay in RMB. If you are okay with that, we can continue talking. If not, I’ll treat you both to a drink at noon. We call this ’Deal or no deal, the trust remains.’ What do you say, Anderson?"

"No no no..." Anderson shook his head repeatedly.

But Yan Fei did not say more, just watched him together with Ivan.

After about two minutes of silence, Anderson’s frowned eyebrows relaxed, and he smiled: "Alright, but I have one additional condition. If the beef is rated as choice grade or higher after evaluation, I demand the right to be the exclusive agent in America. This request isn’t unreasonable, right?"

Yan Fei has always been well-versed in the knowledge about beef grades. American beef is divided into eight grades, with choice being equivalent to the second tier. In this regard, Yan Fei wasn’t too worried. Even after long-distance transportation, Yan Fei felt that his beef could easily attain a high rating.

As for the issue of agency rights, that was a matter for later consideration. Right now, he didn’t fully trust this Anderson—if he could really ensure a smoothly obtained certification that was recognized internationally, then as long as the price was right, granting him the agency was no problem at all. If the price wasn’t right, then sorry.

Thinking this, Yan Fei was about to agree, when Ivan spoke up again: "Yan, think it over carefully."

"I’ve thought it over, this is the condition," Yan Fei smiled at Ivan. "I trust Mr. Anderson’s character."

"Pleasure doing business with you." Anderson stood up, reaching out his hand to Yan Fei. "As for other aspects of our cooperation, perhaps we could change the location to discuss in detail."

Anderson’s method was to go through a trading company in a small East Asian country to sign a formal live cattle purchase contract with Yan Fei first. After that, the transport ship would go straight to America after stopping at that small country without layover. Whether it’s through official channels or quietly slipping through, Yan Fei didn’t need to care anymore.

What Yan Fei needed to do was to transport twenty heads of cattle to a certain port and make sure they were successfully loaded onto the ship after passing quarantine.

Life is full of helplessness!

When I first came here, I marveled at how well foreign monks chant their scriptures. In a blink of an eye, I have to pay a foreign monk to get a rating certificate that is more widely recognized by other countries.

As for whether I can get things done after spending the money, Yan Fei isn’t too worried.

One must have confidence; Boss Yan is very confident in his own beef, and even more in his "Seventy-two changes." If this Mr. Anderson thinks he can trade $500,000 and twenty heads of cattle for a one-way ticket to the world of dinosaurs, Yan Fei wouldn’t mind helping him achieve that dream.

The contract for twenty live cattle had to go through the proper procedures. Although this cooperation was small in scale, it was still about the export of live cattle and it immediately garnered the attention of the relevant provincial departments.

It was only now that Yan Fei discovered that live cattle exports had never been conducted on a large scale; they had always been in small quantities. Furthermore, previous exports were mainly of breeding cattle, whereas his export was primarily of beef cattle. Although it wasn’t a groundbreaking precedent, it was still a pleasing progress.

However, for Yan Fei, he would have preferred that no one knew about this matter. After all, he did not fully trust Anderson yet and did not hold much hope for the subsequent cooperation after the rating.

Others were unaware of the dealings behind the scenes, and Yan Fei could not possibly explain to everyone he met. So the more people knew about his cattle export, the more embarrassing it would be for him if it turned out to be just a one-off deal!

Yan Fei couldn’t return home for lunch and had to call Xu Xiaoyan, then have a meal with the responsible person from the provincial exchange meeting and two bear-like guys, while casually enjoying a few glasses of the local specialty old liquor.

After lunch, Yan Fei sought Will’s advice on whether what Anderson said was reliable. Will was also overwhelmed: "Yan, I really don’t know much about this. It’s not that I don’t know, but you see, each state has different situations, even the laws differ. Plus, I’ve been out of the loop for quite some time, and everything keeps changing every day..."

Yan Fei was frustrated: "Thank you, Will, I just wanted to ask. Actually, I don’t care if I get selected or not, but now that others are aware of my cattle export, it would be quite embarrassing if no more deals follow."

Will spread his hands: "I am sorry, but there is not much I can do to help. You see, I’m just a chef after all. But..."

Seeing Will hesitated to continue, Yan Fei sighed, stretched out his hand, and patted Will’s shoulder: "We’re old friends now, you can speak freely, don’t worry, I won’t get angry."

"I think you need to consider this very carefully." Encouraged, Will began, "You might not like what I am about to say, but I think it doesn’t hurt to listen. In our area, the impression of China is that it’s backwards and ignorant. And many people look down on this ancient country, as well as its people. For some of them, if they cheat you, they might not feel that they are doing something despicable but rather something quite amusing."

"Like playing with a pet dog at home, casually throwing a bone and watching it fetch?" Yan Fei asked with a cold face.

"See, this is why I am afraid to tell the truth," said Will. "Because if I do, it might affect our relationship..."

"It won’t." Yan Fei smiled and shook his head. "You’ve told me the truth, and although I’m not in a good mood right now, just give me two minutes, and I’ll cheer up. As friends, we should be able to say anything to each other. I’m glad you’re telling me the truth."

I’m becoming more hypocritical, aren’t I?

Boss Yan muttered to himself, thinking that he needed to head back to Dinosaur World and give those laborers a good sorting out. Perhaps throw a few pythons into their camps in the wilderness? Or maybe a few giant bee hives?

Or should he throw the two stallion-like guys into a group of Rapators and see whose stamina wins out in a race with the Rapators?

He can only hope that Anderson won’t disappoint him.

After saying goodbye to Will, Yan Fei went to visit the Agricultural University and the Institute of Science to check on their progress. In the end, one must rely on oneself. As long as his grand plan was going smoothly, everything else was irrelevant.

Doing business is for making money, and making money serves his plans. As long as the goal is clear, minor setbacks on the way are nothing, right?
