There’s no denying it, the trick with the fried spicy chili was incredibly effective.

However, before entering the small courtyard, she yelled from the doorway: "Xiaofei, come out now, what on earth are you doing?"

It’s not that she didn’t want to enter; she simply couldn’t.

Just as Xu Xiaoyan’s words fell, Yan Fei popped out from behind her, sneakily waving at her: "Stop shouting, let’s talk inside later."

Earlier, when Xu Xiaoyan shouted from next door and started walking outside, he heard her footsteps, so he quickly started waiting behind the blacksmith’s shop door. But she walked straight inside, which startled him.

"Come in and wait, don’t stand in the room." Yan Fei said, closing the door on the street as he spoke.

As soon as she stepped into the courtyard, Xu Xiaoyan started sneezing and quickly pulled out a handkerchief to cover her nose, muttering: "What is this about? You’re being so mysterious."

"Heh heh, it’s nothing, just wanted to invite you for a meal! Have a seat, I’ll fan away the spicy smell first." Yan Fei, after closing the door, also ran back with a couple of worn-out palm-leaf fans and started vigorously fanning in the courtyard.

"What meal? It’s still early!" Xu Xiaoyan was puzzled.

In the summer, with the hot weather, people generally eat dinner late, and the sun was still high in the sky. Was this lunch or dinner?

Yan Fei was left with a silly grin. "Heh heh, I was afraid you wouldn’t have any meat when you got home, so I came here to cook. Why didn’t you come over to play this afternoon?"

"What are you grinning about? My older sister came back, and we were discussing college applications this afternoon!"

"Didn’t your parents decide not to pay for your university?"

Yan Fei hesitated for a moment, then muttered, "It’s nothing, it’s just that at noon I was thinking and thinking, and finally realized how good you’ve been to me."

"Oh!" Yan Fei responded, quickly moving to sit next to the girl. Now it was better; as he gently fanned, both could feel the breeze.

Nevertheless, it could have been because of the heat, the girl’s cheeks turned subtly crimson.

The outside sun gradually set, and seemingly in the blink of an eye, the western sky was left with just a beautiful red dusk that matched the girl’s blush. It made Yan Fei gaze at her, oblivious.

"Third Ni’er, Third Ni’er..." Xu Xiaoyan’s mother’s voice suddenly broke out from next door, jolting the two of them as though they were awakened from a dream.

"Ah! I’m coming!" Xu Xiaoyan responded, but remained seated, motionless.

After a while, she turned to face Yan Fei, "Yan Xiaofei..."

Those three words, which he had heard countless times before, somehow, now sounded different and caused Yan Fei’s heart to flutter. "What’s wrong...?"

"You’re all grown up now!"

"Hehe, I was already growing taller. I’m about to be taller than you soon!"

"Idiot..." Xu Xiaoyan glared at him teasingly. "I’m leaving. Don’t come over tomorrow. If I get a chance, I’ll come see you. We’ll have to fill out the volunteer forms in a couple of days. Will you fill them out with me?"

"Yes!" Yan Fei responded firmly.

"Well, I’m leaving now..."

After seeing Xu Xiaoyan out, Yan Fei felt inexplicably happy. Whistling a tune, he cleaned up the dishes, hopped on his motorcycle and headed back to the cattle farm.

Even after arriving at the cattle farm and being alone in the house, he was still brimming with joy. It stayed that way until Ma Chao came by in the evening to ask him something, "Xiao Fei, didn’t you say you wanted to sell the cattle a few days ago? When are you planning to do that?"

Only then did Yan Fei remember that particular matter. After thinking for a moment, he said, "There’s no hurry. I’ve been thinking it over and feel that it might be better to sell the pigs first, and then gradually replace them with piglets."

"The price of meat isn’t very high at the moment," Ma Chao pointed out.

"No worries, we won’t lose much. If we sell now, we can raise a new batch by the New Year, so we won’t be short of pork. If we wait, the piglets won’t grow in time, we won’t be able to even cut Gift Strips, plus there’s a higher chance we won’t get a good price," Yan Fei explained.

"Oh, alright, then I’ll go ask about the prices later. Tomorrow I’ll come early, and we can do it together. I’m heading home now!" Seeing that Yan Fei had given it considerable thought, and his reasoning seemed solid, Ma Chao chose not to object.

In fact, Yan Fei had initially decided to sell the pigs in a hurry to raise some money due to the issue with Xu Xiaoyan, and only later did he realize that selling now was a good timing, enabling the next batch to mature by the New Year.

Having made a decision, he didn’t dwell on it. Selling the pigs wasn’t something that could be achieved in a day or two anyway, so he would deal with the other matters later.

Right now, with his heart filled with joy and unable to sleep, he decided to go to the sea island and unload his excess energy!
