Chapter 128: Chapter 5 Exam Vacation _1
Yan Fei pushed open the dusty door of the main hall, instantly feeling as if he were cut off from the world. With a flick of the light switch, he illuminated the room in a warm glow. On the wall, his grandparents’ pictures smiled at him, the same smiles they always had. Carelessly, he greeted the pictures, "Grandpa, grandma, I’ll let you guys try some good stuff later!"
He placed a big pot of steaming devil frog meat on the table, sitting there huffing and puffing. After a while, when the pot had cooled, he said to the pictures, "You guys ate already, right? Once you’re done, it’s my turn!"
He then plunged his head into the pot to feast. After eating for a while, he disappeared momentarily, and then returned to put out two servings of salted vegetables to eat with.
Finally, the exams were over and boy, did he owe it to his classmate Xie Dang’en for helping him cheat smoothly and quickly find answers. His test scores probably wouldn’t be too bad thanks to him.
Even if his results were poor, it wouldn’t matter. After all, even if he scored well, the teachers would still think he cheated - which ticked him off, even though it was true.
After finishing the exams, he was officially on vacation, which meant he could actually not attend school. So, Yan Fei, feeling quite good about the situation, decided to treat himself and celebrate right away, planning a feast at home.
The exams were over, but for Yan Fei, the next most important thing was still exam-related: the college entrance examination.
If you asked Yan Fei to describe the past year, he would say, time flew like an arrow, and moments passed like cannonballs.
Around this time last year, his grandpa had suddenly passed away. At this moment this year, he had his own small business, and he even sneakily proposed to his future wife before the high school entrance exam.
Of course, with his mindset, he could never feel a sense of surrealism about all of this. Over the past year, he had worked day and night. The energy he had spent was enough to earn a substantial amount of money if he were doing manual labor.
Every year at this time, it was the moment that countless young people nationwide would decide their fate. However, before this year, all of this had nothing to do with Yan Fei. But this year was different. Xu Xiaoyan was also going to take the college entrance exam.
There were only about ten days left. The cattle farm basically didn’t need his supervision, so he planned to wholeheartedly accompany Xu Xiaoyan during her exam period.
A few days ago, while having dinner, Xu Xiaoyan mentioned that now many students’ parents in the county were delivering delicious food to them every day. He planned to let Xu Xiaoyan also enjoy the treatment of county school students.
But before that, there was still one thing to do.
He went to the island to feed the remaining meat soup to a few puppies, washed the pot and chopsticks, and then went back to his room.
He picked up a large bundle of yellow paper and a string of firecrackers, put them in the cave on the island, left his room in one breath, morphed into the cinerous vulture, and flew upwards.
In just a short while, he arrived at a large cemetery.
His grandparents were buried here. As for his grandma, he hardly had any impression of her – let alone talking about the generation before his grandpa.
He lit the yellow paper and placed it in a small groove on the tomb that had fresh paper ash, then distributed paper in front of every tombstone, picking up a piece of dirt to press it down. With the firecrackers popping, he knelt down and kowtowed a few times, saying, "Grandpa and grandma, get up and take the money!"
This set of processes was finished.
Actually, his grandfather’s memorial day was just a few days ago, and the fresh paper ashes were left by his parents. However, Yan Fei was quite stubborn. He didn’t want to come with his parents, as he felt embarrassed to speak to his grandpa in their presence.
Sitting alone near the tomb, he mumbled for a while, then he giggled and said, "Grandpa, grandma, have you ever heard the loudest dinosaur roar? Let me show you."
He then stood up and yelled, "Change!"
A four-legged dinosaur with a long crest on its head appeared. Although the Parasaurolophus is considered small in the dinosaur world, here, it was huge. The surrounding tombs looked like small mounds in comparison.
Then, he raised his head and started to roar: "Ooooo..."
If this cemetery were not located far from the village, and someone saw what was happening here, there would probably be several real cases of insanity.
After roaring a few times, he transformed back to his original form. He muttered, "Nevermind. It’s not good to roar out here in case someone sees me. I’m leaving, you two continue your deep sleep!"
Transformed into a Cinerous Vulture and took flight.
In the middle of the night, without intending to frighten anyone, I just showcased my latest form shift. I had actually been able to transform for a few days and had even roared outside the paper factory once.
I didn’t get my fill of roaring then. I’m going to head over to the paper factory for a few more bellowing rounds.
Despite his insistence and effort to keep the factory going, even though an iron fence had been erected by the riverside at the paper factory, it still wasn’t operating at night. As for whether it was in operation during the day, Yan Fei had no idea. He was busy with his classes in this period, there was no time to drop by.
The paper factory was quiet on the surface, but Yan Fei knew there were certainly people in the distance. Some people never learn and although they wouldn’t dare come close to the factory, they were brave enough to hide at a distance and keep an eye on their side of the river.
Feeling angry, he roared with all his might. Looking at the iron fence, he was irked. Regardless, he knew it wasn’t electrified. He charged at it, breaking several wooden posts in the process, and wreaked some havoc until he finally let off his steam, and then he returned to the cattle farm.
The guard dogs at the factory were damned unlucky. At first, they tried to bark at the commotion. When Yan Fei transformed into a Parasaurolophus and started bellowing, they were silenced immediately. Who knows where they hid — this goes to show being a dog isn’t easy, if they’re tethered to the wrong master, they have to live in fear.
There were some things to take care of once I got back. Since it was the holidays, early tomorrow, I planned to bring Xu Xiaoyan some food to the county town and make advanced preparations. I also intended to go report to my parents.
First, I transformed into a Terrestrisuchus to ambush an old Iguanodon. I then used a piece of rope to tie up the Iguanodon and transformed into an Iguanodon myself. Pulling the Iguanodon by the rope, I started heading towards the lake.
The selected location was a lakeside spot that was near, so it didn’t take long to reach.
Once at the location, I threw the old Iguanodon into the shallow water and started chopping it up with a big axe.
Soon, the smell of blood spread far and wide, not just in the air but in the water too, where a large area had turned red with blood. Chunks of meat were severed and thrown directly into the lake.
In the blink of an eye, the lake had become quite lively.
From all directions came hordes of shadowy figures, the first to arrive immediately started fighting over the chunks of meat.
As soon as Yan Fei saw the shadows rushing towards him, he stopped chopping. Transforming back into an Iguanodon, he pushed the carcass deeper into the lake.
The usually quiet giant salamanders transformed into demons, their bodies tumbling and fighting over the feast in the bloody water. In no time at all, the Iguanodon’s body exposed bones, progressively more until it turned into a skeleton.
If anyone saw this scene, it would’ve been utterly chilling.
In the dead of the night, a teenager swung an ax, covered in blood, by the forest’s lake. He was feeding one monstrous creature to a horde of other monsters. The air was thick with the smell of blood, attracting curious Rapators peeping from the nearby forest. The entire scene looked like something straight out of a horror movie.
More salamanders approached from a distance but the latecomers could only feast on the leftovers. One unfortunate one was destined to become the meat in the pot.
Yan Fei picked out a moderately sized salamander. Rushing to the water’s edge, he swung his ax and plucked it out before any of the salamanders around could react.
Having discovered a type of meat that could pass off as a different type, Yan Fei had no intentions of consuming it all at once, he was practicing the principle: do not drain the pond to get all the fish. He wasn’t only following the principle; he would also slay other dinosaurs to feed these creatures.
He thought smugly: While Pang Fa has a small fish pond, I directly have a small lake; While he was raising some carp chains, at most tossing in some Old Turtles and Yellow Eels, I was breeding giant salamanders, super-sized ones at that.
Those that were too large he couldn’t finish, and it would be a waste. So, he always caught ones that were neither too large nor too small; so the larger ones could continue breeding. This was called sustainable development.
It was obvious that going to school had been rewarding; he had learned quite a few terms.
There were definitely other creatures in the lake, else the salamanders couldn’t possibly grow so big without eating or drinking, only Yan Fei did not go down to take a look, he did not know.
But he didn’t care. As long as he had salamanders to eat, that’s all that mattered.
