Chapter 105: Chapter 46 Research on Terrestrisuchus_1
In the following days, Yan Fei still persisted in circling above the paper factory every day. Since no one was working overtime at night any more, what was the point of his playacting? Moreover, the police were on duty from time to time, so he obediently returned and worked around the cattle breeding ground.
As the saying goes, if you want to work, there’s endless work to be done.
By the time Ma Chao showed up, Yan Fei had already leveled a large slab of cement in a corner at the back of the cattle field.
He had also piled up a lot of bricks—leftovers from constructing his yard—and moved them here.
When Ma Chao arrived, Yan Fei discussed buying his brewing equipment. There wasn’t much to talk about. Apart from a few large brewing pots and a cone-shaped iron cylinder that were worth something, nothing else was. The small box of strange tools for testing alcohol degree were also an item. Yan Fei was generous, willing to pay a bit extra, considering it as part of purchasing the technology as well. After all, while it might seem simple to him, the actual process might not turn out the way he expected!
With the help of Ma Chao, the stove was set up and a few small cellars were built in no time. It was actually a one-person job, but Yan Fei lacked confidence in his skills. The stove he built on the Vegetable Garden Island was not visually appealing, so he didn’t want to show off with it.
Ma Chao had some cheap wine at his house which Yan Fei wanted to purchase, but Ma Chao’s mother refused to sell.
Aunt Ma explained this way: she would wait until someone came to buy wine, sell her cheap wine for a few more days, and then let the customer know that Yan Fei had started to brew wine at the cattle breeding ground, so as to make it known.
Although Yan Fei intended to brew wine, he didn’t think it was necessarily profitable. The important thing was that it was convenient. Of course, he was grateful for Aunt Ma’s help.
With Ma Chao’s help in work, Yan Fei got some free time. The newly-built stove would have to wait for the cement to dry before it could be used. So, he had nothing to do for a few days. Pretending to go to school, he went back to the Cow Breeding Island.
He was considering whether to kill a Terrestrisuchus so he could transform into it and roam freely.
The Cow Breeding Island didn’t have much left to explore. The island didn’t have many formidable dinosaurs, even the two types of large crocodiles were more formidable. Yet, he had given up on the Sarcosuchus, so the remaining option was the Terrestrisuchus.
This was because he planned to visit the new island, which was not far off. Though he could just fly past it, he cautiously desisted as the new island was often filled with intimidating dinosaur sounds. The world of dinosaurs was full of strange creatures that one couldn’t even dream of, so Yan Fei decided to take precautions, prioritizing his own safety first.
If he was to go to the new island, currently the Terrestrisuchus seemed a reliable option. It was agile and ran fast, making it the ideal choice for ground exploration on a new island.
Also, scaring people by transforming into an Iguanodon was enough of a one-time trick. Doing it too often could attract unwanted attention. If it happened once, people would just consider it a story which would soon be replaced by some new bizarre story, so he didn’t worry about any long-term effects.
Although Yan Fei didn’t have a better idea, he planned to study more about new dinosaurs. Maybe he could make a new discovery.
Through this incident, Yan Fei realized that there was no useless transformation; it all depended on how you use it. The little Sarcosuchus could catch fish in the river, the Rapator could run fast and was a great choice for ground travel if he didn’t want to fly. It was swift and not too large, so it didn’t risk causing too much sensation.
Now, the only problem left: how to kill a full-armored Terrestrisuchus?
Terrestrisuchus were agile. If he just wanted to discipline them, it would be easy with a big stick. Even with their quick reaction, they couldn’t dodge the stick if it was swung from their back.
If he wanted to blind them with an iron spear, as he did with the Iguanodon, it would be a bit more complicated.
As soon as they sense anything amiss, they move quickly, making it hard to target their eyes.
Also, they hunt in groups and if they sense an individual’s strength is lacking, they swiftly assemble together. Thus, if an ambush doesn’t succeed at once, it can be dangerous once they regroup.
Carnivores are different from herbivores, the danger is significantly greater after all.
Yan Fei was crouching high up in a towering tree, staring at a pack of Terrestrisuchus below and deep in thought.
If only those Rapators would fight the Terrestrisuchus. Despite the latter’s larger size, the former has the advantage in numbers!
Alas, on such a damn island, where food is so abundant, they don’t need to fight to the death. Occasionally, conflicts may break out over food, but it usually depends on which side has reinforcements first.
The Terrestrisuchus that Yan Fei was watching were tracking a wounded ankylosaurus. This ankylosaurus was old and clearly injured due to a sneak attack by the Terrestrisuchus. It was limping, moving slowly, and had even been separated from the ankylosaurus herd.
The old ankylosaurus swung its tail with its built-in club, but it did no good. The Terrestrisuchus seemed in no hurry to kill it, they simply followed at a leisurely pace.
Indeed, if they just keep driving it on, the ankylosaurus would soon be unable to walk on its own. At that point, they could easily have a feast without risking danger. Why would they take the risk now?
This is the hunting technique of the Terrestrisuchus, they don’t ruthlessly tear their prey apart like the Rapators do. Instead, they prefer sneak attacks, injuring their prey, driving it away from its group, leading it to a suitable location, and then feasting at leisure.
Rapators rarely prey on ankylosaurus, they prefer Iguanodon. It’s not because the Iguanodon is bigger, but because the ankylosaurus has protective armour. When they launch a group attack, no matter how large the Iguanodon is, they can quickly reduce it to a bleeding, scarred mess, causing it to bleed to death.
For the notoriously lazy Terrestrisuchus, the slower-moving ankylosaurus is more suitable prey. They typically hide in secluded places and attack an ankylosaurus when it passes, immobilizing it with their lethal jaws. Once an ankylosaurus is injured and separated from its group, it’s a done deal. All they have to do is avoid the tail club, without breaking much of a sweat, the ankylosaurus becomes a hearty meal.
Of course, this isn’t always the case. If a dinosaur becomes injured due to unexpected circumstances or a herbivorous dinosaur gets separated from its group, neither Terrestrisuchus nor Rapators would let the opportunity slip by if they came across it.
Perched in the tree, Yan Fei kept praying, hoping the ankylosaurus would stage an unlikely comeback. He didn’t expect it to escape but just to strike back, maybe injuring a Terrestrisuchus before its demise.
However, such an occurrence was rare. Yan Fei watched helplessly as the ankylosaurus was toyed with by the Terrestrisuchus, forced to adopt defensive postures until it was too tired to even swing its tail before they finally launched a group attack.
A few Terrestrisuchus coordinated their actions, effectively incapacitating the ankylosaurus without much effort. One of them bit into the ankylosaurus’ neck, bringing it down.
Then, it was mealtime.
Watching the fallen ankylosaurus, unable to make a sound or put up any resistance, Yan Fei was incredibly frustrated. Its short legs couldn’t reach its attacker and its only weapon, the bone club, had been skillfully avoided by the Terrestrisuchus.
The light dust that was initially kicked up, along with some dried leaves, settled down quickly, leaving only the sound of the Terrestrisuchus tearing and swallowing their food, as well as the gradually spreading nauseating stench of blood.
The ankylosaurus, being old and frail, wasn’t even worth collecting its bones for. As he watched the Terrestrisuchus squabbling over the food, all Yan Fei could do was stand there in a daze.
