Chapter 849: Chapter 867: Side Story - Suddenly Missing You (11)

When Elijah Smith walked out of the elevator, he happened to see Ella Adams reaching the end of the hotel corridor, swiping her card to enter a Presidential Suite.

Inside the hotel corridor, it was exceptionally quiet. The red carpet stretched all the way down the hall, footsteps making no sound. Elijah walked slowly to the entrance of Ella’s room, looking at the firmly closed red solid wood door. He swallowed and craned his neck upward to look at the gold ceiling light above him. Slowly stretching out his hand, he took a cigarette from his pocket, but couldn’t find his lighter.

Just then, a waiter came by, pushing a food trolley. On it was a white porcelain cup with a lid, and a card beside it that said "soy milk," stopping right in front of Ella’s room.

Seeing the cigarette pinched in Elijah’s hand, the waiter gently reminded him, "Sir, I’m sorry, but smoking is not allowed here."

Elijah nodded and, intending to put the cigarette back into his pocket, paused before tossing it into a nearby trash can. He then looked at the bell-ringing waiter and asked, "What’s the capacity of this cup for soy milk?""

"100 milliliters."

"Add 30 grams of sugar, that’s Miss Adams’ favorite taste." Elijah pointed at Ella’s room.

"Are you a friend of our CEO Adams?" The waiter asked hesitatingly.

Elijah lowered his eyes for a moment before looking back at the waiter, answering a different question, "She likes freshly made soy milk with a tenth part milk. It’s best."

While talking, Elijah lifted the lids on the trolley’s bottles and jars, adding what he supposed were the right amounts of sugar and milk. He then looked at the waiter with a smile and asked, "When is CEO Adams leaving Arandalle?"

"Perhaps the day after tomorrow, in the afternoon."

Elijah nodded, but before he could speak, he heard a soft sound from Ella’s room. He swiftly stepped aside and waved to the waiter, indicating she shouldn’t mention his presence.

The waiter’s eyes flashed with confusion, but when Ella opened the door, the waiter still smiled warmly and said, "CEO Adams, your soy milk has arrived."

Ella had just taken a bath; her hair was half-wet as she wiped herself with a bath towel. Making way, she said, "Come in."

Before entering, the waiter glanced again at Elijah. He gave a little smile, and she, still puzzled, pushed the food trolley inside and closed the room door.

Once again, the corridor regained its tranquility. Elijah stood there for a while before heading to the elevator, going up one floor, and returning to his own room.

.....

In early summer Arandalle, the midnight air was slightly cool.

Ella Adams, wearing a thick coat, stood in front of the hotel’s spacious floor-to-ceiling window, holding her soy milk, and took a sip.

She hadn’t liked soy milk before she met Elijah Smith, but after getting to know him, she developed the habit of having a cup of soy milk every morning and night.

After their break-up, she still maintained this habit, but she could never taste that deep, once-familiar flavor again.

So, although she always had soy milk at hand, she seldom drank it. Sometimes she’d take just a small sip or smell its aroma before setting it down.
