Chapter 843: Chapter 861: Side Story - Suddenly Missing You (5)

Elijah Smith had just lit up another cigarette, only took half a drag when he heard Christopher Bell’s words, and was taken aback. He turned his head and started to cough violently, his face turning red from the choking.

"Pathetic." Christopher Bell spoke these words quite casually.

Elijah Smith smirked and continued to cough a couple more times. He turned his head to look at the people and vehicles on the street outside the window. Suddenly, he turned back to Christopher Bell and asked, "What do you know about her since I was in prison?"

"You broke up so cleanly, why can’t you let go now? Weren’t you heartless?" Christopher Bell habitually taunted Elijah Smith. He then looked at him and said sternly: "Elijah, it’s not that you don’t like what I’m saying. There aren’t many women who would still follow you after the kind of hurt you put them through. Moreover, Ella Adams isn’t like ordinary women. She was with you, not for your money, not for your power, but purely for you as a person. Let’s not mention how you thought you were unworthy of her because you broke the law, and thought your actions were so righteous. After what you did to her, in her eyes, you are in the wrong, and you have no say in her life anymore. Her business has nothing to do with you."

Christopher Bell was indeed somewhat angry. A good relationship had been broken up so brutally, and he considered himself partly to blame.

These years, every time he thought about it, he felt a wave of sadness.

What upset him more was that Elijah Smith didn’t treat him like a friend when such a big incident happened. He shouldered the entire burden alone. At the very least, he could have shared, and Christopher would have been there to drink with him.

Elijah Smith chuckled and said, "Christopher, I’m just asking. I have no intention of disturbing her."

He truly had no such intentions at all.

Some people, once lost, he knew, are destined not to be regained in this life.

Just like what she once said, there are three things in this world that you cannot find once lost - time, life, and me.

Seeing Elijah Smith’s laughter, Christopher Bell’s heart softened. He sighed and said, "Actually, I don’t know much either. After graduation, I never saw her again. But before graduation, I saw her twice. Once on the sports field, she looked quite haggard, her hair messy and unlike her usual vibrant self. The other time was at her Doctor graduation ceremony. She was the representative of the graduating class then and went up to speak. She only spoke two sentences and then fell silent as she stared at the two camphor trees in the distance."

At this point, Christopher Bell sighed again, saying: "Elijah, this is all I know. But I suppose you can sense that she hasn’t been doing particularly well after breaking up with you."

Elijah Smith didn’t say anything, his eyes glazed over somewhat, and for some reason, the alcohol he just drank started to churn in his stomach.

Standing on the podium of the sports field, the two camphor trees that could cause Ella Adams to stare blankly, he knew which ones they were.

On those two trees, their names were carved. Those trees were decades old. The two of them, with a knife, carved their names onto the trees, deeply. Because of this, the school had fined them three hundred dollars.
