Chapter 842: Chapter 860: Side Story - Suddenly Missing You (4)

"I don’t fucking want money, I want to call the police!" The man shouted while pausing for a moment and still taking the money from Christopher Bell with extended hands, cursing all the while, "What’s so impressive about serving time in prison?!"

Smirking, Christopher pats him on the shoulder and turns away, waving to the crowd, "I’m leaving now, I’ve settled the bill. Have fun."

After saying that, Christopher waves and walks out.

When he arrives at the restroom, he doesn’t see Elijah Smith. He then rushes out of "Magnificent" and sees Elijah’s car parked by the roadside with hazard lights blinking one by one.

Christopher walks up quickly. The car window is open, and he hears a song inside: "Suddenly I miss you, wherever you might be, living happiness or resentment... Suddenly I miss you, suddenly sharp memories, suddenly blurry eyes...""

He stops suddenly, standing outside, looking at Elijah half-lying on the dropped car seat. The man raises a hand to cover his eyes, with a cigarette in between his fingers, emitting a wisp of smoke.

Not sure if it’s an illusion, Christopher sees an inexplicable layer of sadness in Elijah’s persona.

He stands there for a long time, and then clearly sees, through the streetlight, large teardrops falling from the corner of Elijah’s eyes.

Christopher’s heart feels suffocated, and he gently pulls the car door open and gets in after a while.

Hearing the noise, Elijah hurriedly wipes the corner of his eyes, sits up straight, adjusts the seatback, turns off the music, and asks, "How much did you give him? I’ll give it to you."

"Forget it. You’ve helped me a lot back then." Christopher smiles, pulls a cigarette from the case beside him, lights it, takes a drag, and breaks the silence in the car, "Elijah, I heard everything he said tonight."

Elijah purses his lips and says nothing.

"You got so angry because he insulted Ella Adams, right?" Christopher flicks the ash from his cigarette out the car window and says, "If I had known that you sent me to pick up Ella just to make a plan for you two to break up, I definitely wouldn’t have done it. It’s better to dismantle a temple than to ruin a marriage. Elijah, you don’t know but when I found out you went to prison, I understood everything. We’re so close, how could I not know what you’re thinking?"

Elijah pulls a smile, his expression appears somewhat noncommittal.

Christopher sighs and becomes a bit sentimental, "Elijah, back when we hung out together, I thought you’d end up as a good-for-nothing heir. But who knew you’d actually go to prison, start from the bottom, and now you’re like an honorable man."

Elijah puts out the cigarette and still doesn’t speak.

"But seeing you like this, I feel even more uncomfortable at heart." Christopher, feeling particularly sentimental, and asks Elijah, "Elijah, these years, have you ever regretted your choices back then?"
