Chapter 784: Chapter 802: Then, I’m Ready to Love You (25)
Isabel thought, was this the closing remark of the negotiation to break off their engagement? So, she humored him by thinly smiling at his ambiguous praise, not uttering a word. Silently, her hand had already grabbed her wallet on the stool, ready to leave at any moment.
However, the next second, George spoke with an expression that seemed to say he didn’t want to hurt her, "I am the scumbag, I don’t deserve you, I think it’s best you forget about me."
Typically, these are the words spoken by a man who has let down his lover.
And now, they were being said by George to Isabel.
Isabel looked at George and blinked, deliberating each and every word in her mind. She hadn’t said anything that could lead to such a misunderstanding. Why does he think she has fallen for him?
"Isabel, a female should not behave this way, a lady should be more selfish. The majority of men in this world are scumbags, very few can charm you with their sweet words. And there’s only a one in a billion chance that a man will be decent. So, it’s unfair to yourself when you keep thinking about a man."
Isabel was totally dumbfounded. She blinked again. Was George lecturing her?
What went wrong? Why did everything become so weird?
She slowly let the smile fade from her lips.
"Isabel, I was the one who brought up the divorce first, so you really don’t have to behave as if I’ve done you wrong and yet you’re still considering me," George paused and softened his words to sound less offensive, "and also, once a man is determined to break up, it’s impossible for a woman to hold him back. So... Isabel, don’t be foolish. We’re really no longer possible. You deserve a better man."
Isabel’s face quickly flushed.
Suppressing the urge to jump up, she turned to look at George with a forced smile, lowered her voice and said: "George, you’re totally mistaken. I’ve never had any feelings for you from the beginning until now. You know very well how this marriage was arranged; it was our parents’ decree. We’ve only met a few times, how could you think I would like you that much? I came here today with a genuine intention to divorce you, no lies, I am not trying to save face, nor am I foolishly thinking about you."
"Do you know what I was planning to say when I came to break off the engagement? I was going to sincerely apologize to you, assume my responsibilities and then tell you that we are not suitable for each other, hoping you could forgive me. But you? You started off nicely, but in the end, you acted as if I cling to you like an annoying bug, forcing it on me, ’Isabel, let’s break off the engagement. I don’t want to marry you.’ So, my emotional outburst earlier was due to your overconfidence. I don’t have those hidden intentions you thought I might have; it has always been you overthinking."
The more Isabel spoke, the more flustered she got. She paused briefly to take a deep breath, trying to regain her composure before she continued: "Let me be frank with you, George, my son is already able to do his own chores."
PS: It’s understandable for the female lead to be angry, right? I wouldn’t call it being melodramatic. I’ve made it clear from the beginning that it was Mr. George who was too confident, which annoyed Isabel. You guys bashing her left me feeling down the whole night.
