Chapter 780: Chapter 798: And then, I’m Ready to Love You (21)
Percy Stanton, sitting at the dining table inside the house, feels even more gloomy as he watches his groveling son.
...
Isabel Smith and George Vincent walk out of the hospital in silence.
George Vincent doesn’t ask Isabel what she would like to eat, instead, he makes arrangements directly: "Isabel, there’s a Capital Taste Building across the street, let’s go there."
Isabel, who is considering how to bring up the topic of breaking off their engagement with George Vincent during their meal, doesn’t have any appetite at all and has no objections to eating anywhere, so she nods and says, "Okay."
As the name suggests, the Capital Taste Building serves old Bellshire cuisine, and the decor reflects the old Bellshire style, with red antique wooden tables and chairs, and screen-like paintings of court ladies, exuding an ancient charm.
George Vincent and Isabel Smith are led by a waiter to a private booth on the second floor, and as they both sit down opposite each other, George Vincent takes the initiative to pick up the menu and order some signature dishes, and a kettle of Greentea.
The dishes are served quickly.
The booth is quiet inside, with only the sound of water flowing as George Vincent pours tea.
Isabel Smith’s hand rests on the table, bundled into a fist, and when a green ceramic cup is pushed in front of her, she looks up at George Vincent and says, "Thank you."
George Vincent smiles and nods, withdrawing his hand, and as he looks at Isabel Smith through a veil of dew-covered lotus flowers, his eyes become somewhat helpless. In fact, the first time he invited Isabel out to dinner was to propose breaking off their engagement, but they didn’t end up eating out on both occasions.
This time, he could no longer wait. Last night at the Magnificent, he saw Robert Vincent and Evelyn Osbert again. When night had just fallen, he went to Magnificent with a few friends, and coincidentally saw Robert Vincent’s car in the underground garage. His curiosity led him to approach it, but before he could knock on the window, he could hear the ambiguous voice of men and women inside.
When he thought about Robert Vincent’s mother, whom he had been with since the age of twenty-three, a layer of indescribable nausea surfaced in his stomach, making him turn around and leave in haste. He then called Isabel Smith, wanting to see her and break off their engagement as soon as possible.
He admits that when he first saw Isabel Smith, the woman, at the wedding banquet, he was indeed very attracted, and even wanted to marry her and take her home. However, the attraction was only a fleeting impulse, and after learning that his father was with Isabel’s younger cousin, he lost any good feelings towards his fiancee.
On his way here, George Vincent had already thought through what he wanted to say. He picked up his tableware and served Isabel some dish, saying, "Eat something."
Having sorted out what she wanted to say, Isabel’s appetite was even further diminished, so she looked up at the food George had placed on her plate, smiled and said, "I’m not hungry, you go ahead and eat."
George Vincent nods, and eats his meal. He doesn’t have much of an appetite either, eating only half a bowl of rice before putting down his tableware and bowl, looking up at Isabel Smith and asking, "Isabel, you sent a text message last night saying you had something to tell me, right?"
"Yes," replies Isabel, out of politeness, and asks in return, "You also wanted to see me about something, what is it?"
