Chapter 768: Chapter 786: Then, I’m Ready to Love You (9)

Isabel Smith sat by Raymond Thompson’s bed for a long time before getting up, walking out of the infirmary, and going to the sterile space.

Isabel requested a sterile suit, put it on, and entered the sterile space.

It was quiet inside. Isabel slowly approached Percy Stanton, who lay with his eyes closed, fast asleep. Her body shuddered uncontrollably.

In his slumber, Percy had his eyes tightly shut, and his lashes were extremely curled. His face was pale, yet it couldn’t conceal his beautiful and delicate features, which resembled a flower quietly blooming.

Isabel gently sat beside Percy and raised her hand to grasp his.

......

Elijah Smith left Ella’s Hotel and went straight to the hospital without leaving. He asked a nurse and came directly to the sterile space where Percy was.

By now, the night had deepened and the corridor was quiet. With each of his footsteps echoing in the corridor, he came to the sterile space, and at a glance through the large soundproof glass window, he saw Isabel keeping vigil by Percy’s side.

His steps suddenly halted, and his gaze remained steady on the scene inside.

He clearly saw Isabel, weeping as she stared at Percy unblinkingly.

Because of the soundproof glass, he couldn’t hear her, so the scene before him seemed like a silent vigil.

He was unsure if it was just an illusion, but he felt that Isabel looked much smaller and thinner than before, her complexion as pale as the sleeping Percy’s.

In Elijah’s heart, a layer of pity emerged, and he even felt an urge to go inside, pull Isabel into his arms, and comfort her.

He could see Isabel’s mouth opening and closing repeatedly but couldn’t make out what she was saying to Percy since he had never learned spoken language. He could, however, see guilt and apology etched on her face.

Even her features revealed a vulnerable anxiety.

That anxiety caused the bonds of kinship in Elijah’s heart to suddenly come alive.

His past with Isabel unfolded before him like a long movie, frame by frame, playing in his mind.

From their childhood, when Isabel fought for him and fell seriously ill from looking for him in the rain at midnight, to their reunion when she kicked him without hesitation to block a horse hoof...

All this time, Isabel had been giving of herself wholeheartedly and without regret for him. Now it was his turn to give back.

Only now did he fully understand the true meaning of blood being thicker than water.

No matter the cost, even if it was exceptionally cruel to himself, he would ensure Isabel’s safety, happiness, and well-being from now on.

As Elijah looked at Isabel inside, his eyes suddenly became extremely tender, but his expression remained sad.

In his heart, he silently called out the word "brother-in-law" to the unconscious Percy lying there.

Brother-in-law, please wake up quickly... I beg you, you must wake up... My sister’s happiness is in your hands... After you wake up, you must treat my sister well... That way, my lifetime’s sacrifice won’t be in vain for my sister’s half-life of peace and stability...
