Chapter 745: Chapter 763: The Unknown Good (6)
Elijah Smith leaned against the railing, his dark eyes fixed on Ella Adams’ face for a long time before walking over to hand her the documents, asking, "Is this it?"
Ella Adams put the water cup on the table, then took the documents, opened the bag, flipped through it, and finally spoke to Elijah Smith, "Yes, thank you."
Actually, they had only talked face-to-face twice since their reunion. The first time was at a local cuisine restaurant in Arandalle when she said "hello" to him, which was just official courtesy. This time, it was a real conversation, even though it was just a few words, and it wasn’t with an indifferent attitude as strangers anymore.
This subtle change left Elijah Smith at a loss for what to say next. He just stood there, staring at Ella Adams in a daze.
Suddenly, the atmosphere in the room became somewhat tense.
Ella Adams symbolically took a couple of sips of water, then stood up. The words she spoke seemed to be directed at the housekeeper while also intended for Elijah Smith, "It’s getting late, and I have to catch a flight later. My assistant has already handled the registration at the airport, so I need to leave."
"Miss Adams, let me give you a ride," the housekeeper said.
"No need to bother," Ella Adams smiled, glanced at Elijah Smith, her expression neither cold nor warm, and with a slight nod, she walked towards the doorway.
Elijah Smith instinctively turned his head to watch Ella Adams putting on her shoes at the entrance area, then followed her, grabbing the car keys from a shelf, and said, "I’ll give you a ride. It’s not easy to catch a taxi at the doorstep."
"It’s fine, I can call a taxi," Ella Adams replied.
Elijah Smith didn’t respond, instead, he just wore his wrinkled clothes, stretched out his hand, opened the door, and walked outside.
As Ella Adams reached the doorstep, Elijah Smith drove out of the garage. He quickly sped up to catch her, then rolled down the car window and said, "Get in."
"I don’t need to."
Before Ella Adams could finish her sentence, Elijah Smith spoke up, "I have no ulterior motives, just want to give you a ride."
As he said this, Elijah Smith’s heart was inexplicably aching, his eyes turned sore, and he instinctively turned his head to look at the scenery on the other side of the car, his gaze somewhat lost.
Sometimes, it’s better to miss than to meet. For him, every reunion like this was an ordeal, again and again.
Once, she would always nag him to drive her, no matter if he was busy or not. She even forcefully argued that, as his favorite woman, she should be his top priority.
Now, she no longer needed his help, or perhaps, the place he once had in her world had been replaced by a man named Clarence Cooper.
Elijah Smith gripped the steering wheel tighter, just as he was about to compromise, Ella Adams, who was standing outside the car, said, "Thank you."
Then she opened the car door and got in.
The car was a new one, the most common official car in Chanaea - an Audi. The simple black leather interior was comfortable.
The inside of the car was quiet, with Elijah Smith focused on driving.
Ella Adams sat beside him, eyes closed as if asleep. Elijah Smith, like many years before, habitually turned up the heat in the car just a little.
Ella Adams wasn’t really asleep, just resting her eyes. She could sense every move Elijah Smith made, so she instinctively opened her eyes, seeing his actions as caring and considerate as before. In that instant, a warm feeling surged through Ella Adams’ heart, followed by a sharp pain.
