Chapter 744: Chapter 762: The Unknown Good (5)
The lunch was scheduled at Bellshire Grand Hotel, but he was feeling light-headed and not particularly inclined to go. Hence, he made up an excuse about staying up late last night and needing to catch up on sleep at home while waiting for their return. Consequently, he just went upstairs.
After Percy Stanton drove Isabel Smith and Grandma away from the Smith Ancestral Home, leading the two children with them, the entire house suddenly seemed extremely quiet.
The housekeeper came to check in once, asking him if he wanted to eat something. He waved them away without a word.
While he was sluggishly sleeping, he felt the need to drink water. Struggling, he climbed off the bed, feeling somewhat light-headed, and went down the staircase. He had just reached halfway when he heard a servant downstairs exclaim, "Miss Adams, why have come here?"
Miss Adams, which Miss Adams?
In Elijah Smith’s drowsy mind, the first person he thought of was Ella Adams.
Clasping the staircase railing, he staggered down a few steps and watched the housekeeper lead Ella Adams toward the study on the first floor.
"Young Master Elijah, you are awake?" The housekeeper greeted Elijah Smith with a smile.
Elijah Smith remained silent, standing atop a few raised steps, watching Ella Adams.
Ella Adams happened to be at the Bellshire Hotel today, taking care of some business. She also made a phone call to Isabel Smith requesting a cooperation plan from Smith Corporation.
The plan happened to be at the Smith Ancestral Home. Since Ella Adams was about to catch a flight and she had been to the Smith Ancestral Home several times with Elijah Smith and later with Percy Stanton and Isabel Smith, she was fairly familiar with the place. Hence, she came on her own to get it.
To her surprise, she bumped into Elijah Smith. Unavoidably, she was taken aback by this unexpected encounter. She felt a sudden jolt in her heart, and then it was thumping for a few moments before she managed to calm down. She heard the housekeeper say to Elijah Smith, "Miss Adams is here to pick up the Smith Corporation contract. Mrs. Smith and Miss Isabel called saying that the contract is in Mrs. Smith’s study. I am not familiar with those contracts so I thought I would take Miss Adams to look at it together."
Struggling to steady his weakened legs, Elijah Smith gave a slight nod. Being sickly, he felt somewhat weakened. The overwhelming heat swirling in his mouth made it hard for him to speak. As such, his throat felt dry and burning when he attempted to speak. After swallowing several times and clearing his throat, he said, "go pour a glass of water, I’ll go to the study to get the contract."
"Yes, Young Master Elijah," the housekeeper immediately turned and headed to the kitchen.
It was then that Elijah Smith descended the staircase and stood in front of Ella Adams.
He was half a head taller than her, despite her being in high heels. Because he had just awakened, his hair was messy, slightly obscuring his vision.
His gaze, fixed on Ella Adams for a long time, gave way before he spoke, "Wait a moment, I’ll help you get it."
Ella Adams said nothing, only lightly nodding her head.
Elijah Smith continued to stare at Ella Adams for a while, then turned around and walked into the study.
Regarding the cooperation projects between Smith Corporation and the Thompson Empire Group, Elijah Smith had some knowledge, so it was easy to find the contract on Mrs. Smith’s desk.
Picking up the contract and turning to leave, he was not sure if it was due to the severity of his illness, but his vision blacked out and he nearly tripped and fell
Leaning on the desk to stabilize himself, he took a deep breath and made an effort to steady his steps as he left the study.
The housekeeper had already brought the water and politely handed it to Ella Adams. Ella Adams accepted it with a smile, thanked him, and then shifted her gaze to Elijah Smith who was standing at the study door, staring at her.
The smile at the corner of her lips faded instantly. Her gaze then leapt away and fixated on the scenery outside the window, showing no intention of talking.
