Chapter 741: Chapter 759: The Unknown Good (2)

Ella Adams stared at the half-finished red wine on the table and said, "Clarence Cooper, it’s getting late. You should go home and rest. I need to rest too."

Instantly, Clarence’s anger flared up. Wearing nothing but his underwear, he stomped around the balcony floor twice, took a deep breath, calmed himself, looked at Ella, and said softly, "Ella, where did I go wrong? Just tell me, if you say it, I’ll change."

"Clarence, you’re great. The problem is with me."

"What’s wrong with you? What’s your problem? Ella, just now, we were clearly getting along well, and you didn’t seem particularly repelled by me. This shows that deep down, perhaps you can accept me." Clarence crossed his arms over his waist and took a few gasping breaths. He continued, "Ella, were you just toying with me tonight?"

"Clarence, that’s not my intention." Ella paused, looked up at Clarence, and said, "I can’t lie to myself. Clarence, I can’t like you."

"Why can’t you like me? We’ve been getting along so well!"

"It’s precisely because we get along so well that I can’t like you." Ella suddenly interjected as Clarence finished speaking, then continued, "Clarence, I appreciate your two years of compromise, but I really can’t be with you. I’m so sorry."

Clarence’s demeanor instantly became agitated. He lifted his hand to rub his cheek, took several deep breaths, and stared at Ella, who remained calm and unresponsive. "Ella, are you serious?"

Ella nodded without speaking.

Clarence swallowed his saliva, walked to the side, picked up his clothes, and put them on one by one. As he walked towards the bedroom door and pushed it open, he paused, turned, and said to Ella, "Ella, are you sure you don’t want to consider me at all? I really like you a lot."

Ella stared quietly at the beautiful night scene of Arandalle outside the window.

"Ella, or is it because... you haven’t forgotten your initial lover?"

Clarence knew that Ella Adams had once had a very loving boyfriend, but he didn’t know who. He had asked her once or twice, but each time Ella had chosen to remain silent, looking increasingly unhappy.

He wasn’t sure if it was an excuse he had given himself, so he continued to ask, "Ella, it’s been five years. Can’t you let him go?"

"Even if five years ago, the person who hurt you happened tonight as just now, would you still stop halfway and refuse?"

Ella pressed her lips tightly together, and her hand silently clenched, causing her beautifully manicured nails to dig into her palm.

What would she do if it were Elijah Smith tonight... five years ago, he abandoned their love... what would she do?

The night scene outside the window was incredibly beautiful, and the dazzling lights in the distance seemed to penetrate the 21st-story height and illuminate the room.

Clarence waited a long time without hearing Ella speak. Just as he was about to leave, thinking she would not respond, her voice came out, low and soft, "...Clarence, what happens between the two of us has nothing to do with him."

"Not related?" Clarence turned around, staring intently into Ella’s eyes, his face a mixture of emotions. "If it’s really not related, why can’t you accept other men?"
