Chapter 738: Chapter 756: Pain should be shared by everyone (9)
Ella Adams glanced at Clarence Cooper with a faint smile, seemingly not hearing what Elijah Smith said, and raised her glass. The two gently clinked their glasses and took casual sips.
Elijah tightly gripped the cup of pear juice in his fingers, his lips pursed tightly, staring at Ella Adams’s profile for a long time before finally lowering his head and downing his glass of white wine in one gulp.
Clarence Cooper chatted endlessly with Elijah Smith about future cooperation plans. Although Elijah appeared to be listening, he really wasn’t. Having rarely drank in all these years, tonight, he had a bit too much. In the end, his vision was blurry, and he simply looked up, staring directly at Ella Adams.
Clarence kept addressing Elijah Smith as "brother" while chatting over drinks.
Ella Adams sat quietly beside him, her gaze soft under her eyelids, making her seem somewhat distracted.
After some time, Clarence noticed that Elijah had been staring at Ella Adams the entire time. He raised his hand, placed it on Ella’s shoulder, and half-jokingly said to Elijah across a table of long-cold delicious dishes, "CEO Smith, don’t you think Ella is exceptionally beautiful?"
Elijah’s gaze was fixed on Ella Adams, not looking at Clarence, and not saying a word. But a chill emanated from the bottom of his eyes as he found Clarence’s fingers on Ella’s exposed skin particularly irritating.
Ella turned her head slightly, smiled faintly at Clarence, and said, "It’s getting late, and there is a meeting in the hotel tonight, so I should head back."
With that, she stood up and dodged Clarence’s hand.
Elijah felt slightly relieved, slowly leaning back in his chair and speaking emotionlessly, "President Cooper, I’m not feeling well today. Why don’t we call it a night?"
"Alright." Clarence readily agreed, as he was thinking of taking Ella back.
Elijah called a waiter and took out his wallet to pay the bill.
Elijah and Clarence’s cars were parked in different directions. They shook hands and parted ways in front of the restaurant.
After starting the car, Elijah impulsively drove in the direction Clarence had parked. When crossing the bridge, he just so happened to see Clarence’s Mercedes-Benz drive out of the parking lot, turn around, and continue slowly in front of him.
Clarence’s car eventually stopped in the underground parking lot of Elijah Smith and Ella Adams’ hotel. Elijah followed and parked his car at a distance, but didn’t get out.
He didn’t know what to call his own behavior – like a stalker. Nonetheless, deep down, he desperately wanted to know what was going on between Ella Adams and Clarence Cooper and how far they had gone.
The three of them nearly reached the twenty-first floor simultaneously in separate elevators. As Elijah stepped out, he saw Clarence and Ella heading toward Ella’s hotel room one after another. They swiped the card and went inside.
Elijah stood rigidly by the elevator entrance for a long time before taking a few slow steps forward, but he didn’t have the courage to approach Ella’s room.
Leaning against the hotel wall, he maintained the same posture for hours. Clarence hadn’t come out of the hotel room, and in that moment, Elijah couldn’t clearly describe the heart-wrenching pain he felt inside.
It was just that... Ella... the woman he loved most... seemed like she would never come back to him...
...
Indeed, Ella Adams wanted to see if she could accept a man other than Elijah Smith in her life.
The pain of being kicked from the highest point of happiness by the one you love most was unbearable for her, and she just couldn’t let go.
