Chapter 731: Chapter 749: Pain should be shared by everyone (2)

However, it seemed like no one had lived here for a long time, as there was a significant amount of dust in the house.

Elijah Smith closed the door and walked in to find that the green plants in the room were still there, but they had long since withered, and the soil had turned into hard, stone-like lumps.

The bedsheet and quilt cover were the same ones as when he had left, and even the underwear he had folded for her was still in its original place, untouched.

He turned around, walked out of the bedroom, and went to the kitchen. Opening the thermos, he saw that the soy milk inside had already become moldy and stinky.

It turned out that after the day he left, she never came back.

A wave of indescribable sadness arose in Elijah Smith’s heart. He walked around the house again and then went back to the bedroom, lying on the dirty bed with his hand covering the lamp light as he closed his eyes.

Incredibly, he had an excellent dream that night, the deepest sleep he’d had in five years.

Elijah Smith never expected that one day, he would become a busy person as well.

The second day, he was awakened by a phone call about a cooperative project that required him to fly to Arandalle by noon that day. If it hadn’t been for his secretary’s reminder, he might have never woken up from sleeping in the bed where he and Ella Adams had once embraced many nights before.

He got up, drove back to his house, quickly washed up, changed into clean clothes, and hurried to the airport.

He came close to missing the flight, with just 15 minutes to spare.

By the time they arrived in Arandalle, it was already 2:40 in the afternoon. The partner company had arranged for him to be transported by a special car and accommodated in the nearest seven-star hotel to their office.

After going through the check-in procedures, Elijah Smith didn’t even have time to drink a cup of water before he headed to the partner’s office to start an entire afternoon of meetings.

That night, dinner parties and social engagements were unavoidable, but Elijah Smith didn’t eat much.

By the time he returned to the hotel, it was 10:30 pm, and he was somewhat hungry. Elijah Smith went straight to the hotel’s third-floor restaurant, ordered a plate of Chinese fast food, and sat by the window, waiting.

The hotel was located near the Lucienne River, and through the window, one could see the sparkling water outside. His fast food arrived within three minutes.

It was somewhat late, so there weren’t many people eating in the restaurant. In a seven-star hotel, the service attitude is crucial, so the waiters inside spoke softly and comfortably.

However, someone broke this pleasant atmosphere.

"Clang—" A sharp sound of a plate crashing followed by a rough voice saying, "What kind of food is this? I paid so much money, and there’s hair in it!"

"I’m sorry, sir. I’ll have someone prepare you a new dish right away," the waiter apologized softly.

"I demand compensation. Do you know how dirty hair is? Call your boss over, or I’ll call the Industrial and Commercial Bureau directly."

Such troublemakers were scarce in seven-star hotels, so even the best service attitude from the waiters was of no help. In the end, the head waiter called the hotel’s person in charge.

Elijah Smith indeed felt that the troublemaker had spoiled the appetite, but since it had nothing to do with him, he just sat there quietly eating his meal.

After finishing the meal, he signaled the waiter to sign the bill, agreeing to settle the meal expenses and room bill together. He then picked up his suit jacket and walked towards the exit.

Before reaching the door, he heard a polite female voice: "CEO Adams, I’m sorry for the inconvenience brought to you by this matter."

"It’s fine," a gentle voice replied.

Elijah Smith’s footsteps suddenly halted, and then he saw two women walking through the doorway. The one in front was none other than the woman he had never forgotten over the years—Ella Adams!
