Chapter 729: Chapter 747: Beautiful and Charming Date (10)

Christopher’s heart suddenly felt blocked. After a while, he gently opened the car door and sat down.

Elijah, who heard the sound, quickly wiped the corner of his eyes, sat up straight, adjusted his seat, turned off the car’s music, and asked, "How much money did you give him? I’ll pay you back."

"Forget it. You helped me a lot in the past." Christopher smiled, took out a cigarette from the cigarette case beside him, lit it, took a puff, and then broke the silence in the car, "Elijah, I heard everything he said tonight."

Elijah pursed his lips but said nothing.

"You got that furious because he insulted Ella Adams, didn’t you?" Christopher held the cigarette, extended it outside the car window, and flicked the ash, saying, "If I had known that your purpose in asking me to pick up Ella was to set up your break-up, I wouldn’t have done it. It’s better to tear down a temple than to destroy a marriage. Elijah, you have no idea how I felt when I found out you went to prison. I understood everything. We’re so close, how could I not know what you’re planning?"

Elijah tugged at his lips, and gave Christopher a noncommittal smile.

Christopher sighed, and his voice became somewhat melancholic, "Elijah, when I used to fool around with you every day, I thought your future would still be that of a worthless rich kid. But who would have thought that you’d end up going to prison, and then starting from the bottom to rebuild your life, now looking like an upright gentleman."

Elijah put out the cigarette, still not speaking.

"But seeing you like this now, it makes me feel even worse." Christopher felt that being a grown man, it seemed too sentimental to be emotional, but he couldn’t help it and asked Elijah, "Elijah, over these years, have you never regretted your choices back then?"

Elijah had just lit another cigarette and had barely taken a puff when he heard Christopher’s words. He was caught off guard and choked, then turned and began to cough violently, his face turning red all over.

"Pathetic." Christopher said these three words as if he was very relaxed.

Elijah tugged at his lips again, continued to cough twice more, then turned to look at the people and vehicles on the street outside the window. He suddenly turned his head and asked Christopher, "After I went to prison, how much do you know about what happened to her?"

"You broke up so thoroughly back then, why can’t you let go now? Weren’t you very resolute?" Christopher mocked Elijah habitually, and then looked at him with some righteous indignation, "Elijah, it’s not that I’m saying something you don’t want to hear, but there are not many women who would still follow you after being hurt by you so much. Moreover, Ella Adams is not like ordinary women. She was with you not for your money or your power, but simply for who you are. Let’s not talk about how righteous you felt back then thinking you didn’t deserve her because you committed a crime. You gave up on a good maiden and in the end, you were wrong to them. You have no right to speak anymore. News about her has nothing to do with you."

Christopher was indeed somewhat angry. A good marriage was forcibly torn apart, and he was an accomplice.

Over the years, the thought of it would make his heart feel uncomfortable.

More importantly, he was angry that Elijah didn’t treat him like a brother. After such a big incident, he silently took all the responsibility alone. At least he should have said something, so he could have accompanied him in drinking some sorrow-drowning wine.

Elijah laughed bitterly and said, "Christopher, I’m just asking. I never thought of disturbing her."

He really hadn’t thought about it.

Some people, once lost, he knew, he was now destined not to get them back in this lifetime.
