Chapter 713: Chapter 731: The Most Surprising Conjecture (4)

However, in the middle of the night, when he woke up, Percy Stanton found that Isabel Smith, lying next to him, was nowhere to be seen. He hastily looked under the bed covers, got up, and went around the entire bedroom but could not find her. He then walked out and noticed that the door to Raymond Thompson’s bedroom was half-open. As Percy approached the door, he peered through the slit and saw Isabel sitting blankly beside Raymond’s bed, looking at the sleeping Raymond. Every now and then, she would raise her hand to touch her cheek, as if wiping away tears.

Standing at the doorstep, Percy’s heart instantly ached for her.

...

The next day, in the early morning, it was Percy who called Raymond to come out for breakfast.

Isabel, after a sleepless night and shedding tears, her eyes swollen, immediately displayed a warm smile as Raymond emerged, "Raymond, let’s eat breakfast."

Raymond glanced at Isabel, his expression not looking too well. He kept his head lowered, silent as he passed by Isabel and walked to the dining table.

Isabel, standing in her place, watched Raymond’s retreating figure with an inexpressible sadness welling up in her heart.

Percy stretched out his hand, holding hers in what seemed an attempt to comfort her, then he led her to the dining table as well.

Recently during meals, Isabel had been serving Raymond his dishes, and Raymond seemed to enjoy it a lot, always eating heartily. But when Isabel was serving him food that day, Raymond held his bowl and swiftly shifted aside.

Isabel’s tableware, that she held in her hands, stayed hanging midway embarrassingly. She watched Raymond for a while then silently withdrew her tableware.

Percy, upon seeing this, frowned involuntarily. He turned his head and said to Raymond, "Raymond, Sister Isabel is your birth mother. Don’t you really like her?"

Raymond kept his head down, merely eating in silence.

"Raymond, are you sure you don’t want your birth mother? If you don’t, I will make Sister Isabel leave our home right away."

Raymond still remained silent.

The fingers of Isabel’s hand, clutching the tableware, turned a pale shade due to the strength she exerted.

Percy pursed his lips, his tone containing a hint of bitterness. "Raymond, if you want your birth mother, then call her ’mum’. If you don’t want her, I will make your birth mother leave right now. From now on, it will just be you and me."

After a pause, Percy added, "Of course, from then on you’ll never see your birth mother again."

Raymond suddenly lifted his head, first looking at Percy, then at Isabel. He opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end, he didn’t say anything. Instead, he stood up, threw his tableware, and dashed back into his bedroom once more.

At the sound of the slamming door behind Raymond, the tableware that Isabel held in her hand dropped onto the table with a thud, with a piece of it rolling off onto the ground.

An immediate silence fell upon the dining table. Isabel looked at Raymond’s practically untouched food in his bowl, and with a heavy heart, she got up and walked towards Raymond’s bedroom.

When Raymond ran back to his bedroom, he didn’t lock the door, leaving a slit open. Isabel hadn’t pushed the door yet when she heard the immature voice of Raymond from inside.

"Mum ..."

"Mum ..."

"Mum ..."

Raymond was continuously calling out "mum", each call containing a different tone, expressing various emotions. From the initially weak tone, it gradually became louder.

Isabel, standing outside the door, felt her eyes welling up with tears at each call of "mum".

She raised her hand and gently pushed the door open. She saw Raymond standing in front of the mirror in the room, making all sorts of expressions, while calling out ’mum’.

Unable to bear it any longer, Isabel raised her hand, covered her mouth, and sobbed aloud, "Raymond.."
