Chapter 705: Chapter 723: They seem to have a mother-child resemblance (6)
What occupied Ella Adams’ mind were the images of two synthetic wraps in the trash can, filled with a bright, thick liquid, and hickeys of varying shades on the woman.
She couldn’t even come up with an excuse to deceive herself anymore.
Today was her birthday, a day she had never indulged in spending too much time and effort celebrating in Ravenwood City. When her brother Tristan Adams dropped her off at the airport, he teased her for forgetting about her family after getting a boyfriend.
She coquettishly bid him goodbye without looking back, and rushed into the airport, not feeling the least bit guilty about it. She just wanted to share her special day with the man she loved the most.
As she soared through the sky, she pondered over what kind of surprise Elijah Smith had for her, where he would take her tonight, would there be roses, and if yes, what color?
She even remembered the day they first met so clearly.
All was so wonderful, then how could this enormous turning point occur all of a sudden?
At this moment, Ella lamented. She regretted her cheeky plan of surprising Elijah, wished she had stayed home waiting for him obediently, and almost blamed herself for rushing off to the Shangri-La Hotel to find him...
Ella wondered whether every woman was filled with such regret when faced with the infidelity of the man she loved dearly.
However, she knew that if she hadn’t done any of this, she and Elijah would still be the same happy couple they were before...
Ella Adams had no idea how long she cried until it was pitch dark outside. She tried to stand up, feeling numb in her legs as she’d been crouching for a while. After struggling for a while, she barely got to her feet, then suddenly everything turned black and she collapsed onto the ground.
...
It wasn’t until the evening when Elijah Smith emerged from the hotel. He called for cleaning service to make amends for the mess in the room and pulled out his bank card to settle the account. He picked up Ella’s suitcase and drove back to her place.
With the key, he opened the door and deposited Ella’s suitcase in the living room. Then, he entered the bedroom and looked at the quilt cover that carried a picture of him and Ella, their smiles extraordinarily brilliant. Elijah’s heart ached. He walked onto the balcony and began to tidy up Ella’s lingerie, neatly placing them in her wardrobe. He then headed to the kitchen to start boiling soybeans and made some soy milk.
These were all tasks he had learned to do since they had started living together. Though he wasn’t the type who loves cooking, he now brewed a delicious soy milk that Ella loved to drink.
He reckoned, this would be the last time he made soy milk for her.
As he poured the soy milk into the thermos, uncontrollable tears rolled down his face once again.
After everything was taken care of, he started packing his own stuff. Most of them were textbooks, which he packed into the prepared boxes, sealed them, and then carried them to his car. He drove back to the Smith Family.
...
Ella Adams woke up again in a hospital.
She was initially confused, her eyes seemingly clouded over by a white fog, left dazed for a long while until she heard a soothing male voice by her side.
"Awake?"
Ella turned her head and saw a young man wearing a white coat and frameless glasses, looking at her with a warm smile.
Ella turned her head to look out the window, squinting in the bright sunlight outside. She asked hoarsely: "What time is it now?"
