Chapter 686: Chapter 704: Go ahead and please Isabel Smith (7)
Isabel Smith urged Raymond Thompson to eat most of the food, but she didn’t eat much herself. Children generally eat slowly, so in order to ensure a balanced diet, she prepared some fruit for him after dinner.
After eating, Isabel took Raymond for a short walk, then gave him a bath, put him to bed, and told him bedtime stories in a low voice to help him fall asleep.
By this time, it was already 9:30 pm, and Isabel glanced at Percy Stanton, who still showed no intention of getting up. She looked at the mostly untouched dishes on the table, thought for a moment, and then microwaved them. Once they were hot, she sat at the dining table, stubbornly waiting for Percy.
After a while, Isabel checked the rice bowl, fearing that the food would get cold again.
Actually, she didn’t really want to deal with him, especially since her neck still hurt a little. However, seeing the wheelchair in the infirmary and the bandage on his arm, her heart softened.
After all, he had ended up like this ultimately because of her. His bad mood and temper at noon were somewhat excessive, but considering he was a patient, she shouldn’t quarrel with him.
Moreover, she had been sulking for several hours already, and any dissatisfaction should have dissipated by now. As he was being petty, she couldn’t be petty as well. Sighing, Isabel got up, walked to the bed, gently pushed his back and whispered, "Percy, do you want to eat dinner?"
Just like when Raymond called him to eat earlier, he still showed no reaction, lying there motionless, but his eyelashes trembled slightly.
It was then that Isabel realized he had been awake the whole time.
So he didn’t budge when Raymond called him to eat. Was he waiting for her to call him instead?
Thinking this, Isabel tried calling him again: "It’s already ten o’clock. Eat quickly, and then let’s sleep."
Isabel clearly saw Percy’s finger beside the pillow twitch slightly.
She then understood that her guess was right.
Before, she thought that backing down was a humiliating act, but now, she realized that compromise wasn’t about losing face, but rather the expression of love.
This man had given her so much love, selflessly facing storms and heavy rain; she now knew that she shouldn’t be petty with him.
So, without hesitation, Isabel reached out to grab Percy’s arm.
But to her surprise, it was as if he was waiting for her to initiate, and as soon as her fingers touched his arm, he sat up with a jolt.
His eagerness surprised Isabel, and she couldn’t help but look at him with a mix of amusement and disbelief. She wanted to laugh at his childish behavior, but seeing Percy’s stern face, she had to suppress her smile, bent down to put the slippers on him, and then helped him walk to the dining table.
The two of them ate in silence, the only sound being the faint noise of tableware striking the porcelain bowls and plates.
After a long time, Isabel put a piece of meat into Percy’s bowl. He stared blankly before a slight, barely noticeable smile appeared at the corner of his lips. Then, lowering his head, he silently ate the meat. Following her example, he picked up a piece of rib and placed it in Isabel’s bowl.
Isabel looked up at Percy, smiled, and then lowered her head to eat the rib.
However, just as her mouth was about to reach the rib, Percy suddenly reached out, grabbed her wrist, and pulled her towards him.
Isabel’s hand trembled, and the rib between her chopsticks fell onto the floor with a clatter. Frowning in annoyance, Isabel asked, "What are you doing?"
