Chapter 677: Chapter 695: Even if I Die, I’ll Accompany You (28)
While eating dinner, the door to the infirmary was knocked on by someone.
Isabel Smith got up to open the door.
To her surprise, it was George Vincent?
Isabel was puzzled as to how he found them and froze on the spot.
Percy Stanton noticed Isabel’s prolonged silence and put down his utensils, asking, "Isabel, who is it?"
Instead of replying to Percy, Isabel looked at George and asked, "What brings you here?"
George pulled out his mobile phone with a bit of helplessness and said, "I don’t know what happened, but I sent several text messages to you and all of them failed to go through. Your call didn’t go through either. So, I called Father, found out you were here, and came straight over."
Paused for a moment, George courteously said, "I hope I’m not intruding."
"No, it’s fine," Isabel said with a forced smile.
"I heard from Father that Mr. Stanton is in the hospital, so I bought some fruit downstairs."
"Thank you." Isabel reached out to take the fruit, but did not invite George to come in and sit down. Instead, she said, "Please wait a moment; I’ll put these things away."
George nodded, and Isabel turned around, carrying the fruit that George had bought, and returned to the infirmary. She placed the fruit on a nearby table, then said to Percy, "George is here; I need to step out with him for a bit."
Percy’s expression turned somber, and he nodded silently without looking up.
Isabel picked up her wallet and coat, then told Raymond Thompson, "Raymond, make sure you finish all the rice in the bowl. I’ll check when I come back."
Raymond immediately nodded vigorously, slid off his dining chair, and escorted Isabel to the door like a little adult, assuring her, "Sister Isabel, don’t worry, I’ll take good care of Dad."
Inside the house, Percy, who was sitting at the dining table, watched his son’s fawning behavior, and his mood became increasingly gloomy.
...
Isabel and George walked out of the hospital in silence.
Instead of asking what Isabel wanted to eat, George made a direct arrangement: "Isabel, there is a Capital Taste Building across the street. Let’s go there."
As Isabel was contemplating how to bring up the topic of ending their marriage contract with George, she had no appetite, so she did not care where they went. She nodded and said, "Sure."
As the name implies, Capital Taste Building serves Old Bellshire cuisine complete with the Old Bellshire style for their interior. The antique red wooden tables and chairs, and the screen painted with ancient ladies added an air of elegance.
George and Isabel were led to a private booth on the second floor, where they sat down facing each other. George picked up the menu, promptly ordered some signature dishes and a pot of Greentea.
The dishes were quickly served.
The private booth was quiet, except for the sound of pouring tea. Isabel’s hand on the table formed a knot, and when a ceramic cup was pushed in front of her, she looked up at George and said a word of thanks.
George smiled and nodded, pulling his hand back. Through the water-covered lotus flowers hanging in the middle of the table, his gaze at Isabel became somewhat helpless. The first time he had asked her out for dinner, he had wanted to propose breaking off their engagement, but to their surprise, they hadn’t been able to eat together twice.
This time, he could no longer wait, and last night at the Magnificent restaurant, he saw Robert Vincent and Evelyn Osbert again. At the time, night had just fallen, and he went to Magnificent with some friends. Coincidentally, in the underground garage, he saw Robert’s car and curiously walked over. Before he could knock on the window, the sound of intimate whispers between a male and female came from inside the car.
When he thought back to when he was twenty-three and had followed Robert’s mother, a wave of indescribable nausea rose in his stomach. He hurriedly left without lingering and called Isabel, eager to see her and break off their engagement.
