Chapter 670: Chapter 688: Even if I Die, I’ll Accompany You (21)

Such joy made him forget the pain all over his body for a moment, and he suddenly opened his eyes, wanting to ask her if her words were true. But who would have thought that when Isabel raised her head and glanced at him, he hadn’t had time to speak yet when she jumped up and ran away in the blink of an eye, disappearing from sight.

Percy instinctively lifted the quilt, wanting to chase after her, but his fingers had just been raised halfway when they tugged on the wound, causing him to moan in pain several times in succession. He fell back onto the bed feeling deflated, and once again sank into unconsciousness.

...

The door to the sterile room was quickly opened again.

Thomas Quincy, wearing a sterile suit, was followed by several doctors as he strode to Percy’s bedside in a few steps.

"Huh, I thought he woke up?" A doctor standing behind Thomas looked puzzled as he spoke.

Isabel, who had been panting from her run, rushed to the bedside and, looking at Percy who had closed his eyes once more and lay motionless, couldn’t help but frown. She turned to Thomas and said, "He really did wake up just now. I’m sure he woke up before I went to find you all."

"Miss Smith, please don’t get excited." Thomas nodded at Isabel, glanced at the equipment connected to Percy’s body to confirm that there were no dangerous signs, then reached out to touch several places on Percy’s body before turning to the doctors beside him and saying, "If he really did wake up before, then it’s likely that he’s just suffering a temporary unconsciousness due to the severity of his injuries. All we need to do now is give him a thorough examination."

After giving the order, Thomas looked at Isabel again: "Miss Smith, you’ll need to go out now."

Isabel glanced at Percy uneasily, and Thomas smiled reassuringly at her, "You can come in and see him again just the same after we’re done with the examination."

Only then did Isabel purse her lips and turn to leave the sterile room.

Isabel stood in the corridor, looking through the spacious glass windows at the flurry of activity inside.

Percy’s family had also received the call and rushed to gather outside.

Charlotte Thompson saw Isabel standing alone, her expression not looking good, so she handed her a cup, sat down beside her, and launched into a series of random topics with Isabel.

Isabel was worried about Percy and had no interest in chatting with Charlotte, mostly just giving a faint smile and remaining silent.

Gradually, the corridor fell completely silent, until the door to the sterile room was pushed open and Thomas emerged from within.

Charlotte, who was sitting beside Isabel, quickly stood up and asked, "Uncle Thomas, how is Marion Hancock doing?"

Thomas casually took off his sterile suit, handed it to a nurse behind him, and calmly said, "Nothing serious. The injuries were too severe, which has affected his mental state. He might be unconscious for a longer time, but he should be fine after some rest."

Hearing these words, Isabel breathed a sigh of relief as her body suddenly became weak. She slumped back in her chair, watching the people around her asking Thomas questions in succession. She wanted to ask Thomas if what he said was true, but couldn’t find her voice.

At the end, someone suggested they take a break. Charlotte suddenly turned around and smiled brightly at Isabel, saying, "Miss Smith, you’ve been up all night. Why don’t you go and rest for a bit? John has prepared a room for you at the hotel across the street. I’ll take you there."

Isabel quickly shook her head and said, "No need, I’m not tired."

"How’s that possible? If Marion Hancock wakes up and is fine, don’t make yourself sick in the meantime."

"I’m really okay."

"You should at least get something to eat, or how about we all go out and eat something together?" Charlotte paused, then turned to look at the others.
