Chapter 668: Chapter 686: Even if I Die, I’ll Accompany You (19)

All along, it had been Isabel Smith who had been giving selflessly to him without regret. Now that things had come to this point, it was time for him to do his part for Isabel.

It was only at this moment that he truly understood the meaning of blood being thicker than water.

No matter how great the sacrifice, even if it was brutally cruel to himself, he had to ensure that from now on, Isabel would live a safe and peaceful life, filled with happiness and joy.

Elijah Smith looked at Isabel inside, his gaze suddenly becoming extremely tender, but his expression still seemed quite sad.

In his heart, he silently called out to Percy Stanton, who was lying in a coma, "Brother-in-law."

Brother-in-law, please wake up quickly...you must wake up... My older sister’s happiness is in your hands, and when you wake up, you must treat her well... In this way, my lifetime’s sacrifice would not be wasted in exchange for half of my sister’s peaceful life.

When Isabel turned to look out the window, Elijah quickly stepped back and hid in the shadows, secretly taking one last look at Percy and Isabel before turning around and striding out of the hospital.

His car was parked across the street from the hospital, and from a distance, he took out his car keys, gently pressed the unlock button, and walked up to the car, only to find a parking ticket stuck to the car window.

Elijah Smith tore it off, sat in the car, and threw the broadband bill carelessly on the car seat. He then picked up his mobile phone and made a call: "Did you get done what I asked you to do yesterday?"

"I was just about to call you, I just got the ID, do you want me to bring it to you or do you want to pick it up yourself?"

"I’ll pick it up. Where is it?"

"It’s at Magnificent."

....

Elijah Smith hung up the phone and drove straight to Magnificent. He easily found the place, and as soon as he pushed the door open, he saw a group of women gathered inside.

Some of the women recognized Elijah, and as soon as they saw him enter, they immediately approached him, cooing, "Mr. Smith, long time no see."

"Mr. Smith, it’s been so long since you’ve come to see us."

Elijah only felt that these women were annoying as hell, so he frowned, shoved them away, and said, "Stay away from me." He then walked up to his friend, reached out his hand, and said, "Give me the items."

"What’s the hurry? It’s been a long time since we’ve seen each other, sit down and play for a while."

"Cut it out, I have other things to do."

"Jeez... I tell you, Mr. Smith, you’re getting more and more boring!" As his friend spoke, he took out an ID card from his pocket and handed it to Elijah: "Please, tell me, what on earth are you going to do with a woman’s ID? Are you going to get a sex change and become a woman?"

Elijah took it, looked it over front and back to make sure there were no problems, and put it in his pocket without paying any attention to his friend’s teasing. All he did was throw out a curt, "Thanks."

He then turned around and walked out.

Elijah Smith stepped out of Magnificent, stood by the door, and lit a cigarette. He looked up at the surrounding neon lights, unable to resist taking the ID card out of his pocket again, fumbling with it for a bit before stuffing it back in, stubbing out his cigarette, and striding back to his car. He started the car and drove away.

...

The night deepened.

Outside the hospital window, it was pitch black.

Isabel Smith had been sitting by Percy Stanton’s side for several hours.

She knew very well that Percy was in a coma, but she still kept talking to him incessantly.

She recounted every bit of their time together, mentioned Raymond Thompson, and said he was her son, and that they had always been each other’s first and only.

Isabel spoke until her throat was parched, and yet she received no response. Panic in her heart grew heavier, as the sky outside the window was about to light up, and the twenty-four hours that Thomas Quincy had told her about were almost up.
