Chapter 656: Chapter 674: Even in Death, I Will Accompany You (7)
Although the people in front of her, like her, cared for Percy who was unconscious, she vaguely heard from their conversations that they were Percy’s family members. Even during the surgery, they gave her warm water and comforting words, but she still felt somewhat unfamiliar with them.
At this moment, when Isabel saw Elijah, she immediately felt weak. She didn’t say anything, but tears silently fell down her face. She grabbed his arm tightly and whispered, "Elijah... Percy, he... "
Elijah had never seen Isabel crying before. His heart ached like it was being cut by a sharp blade. He embraced Isabel and looked at Ella Adams, who had come with him, and said, "Ella, I’m going to take my sister to eat something and rest. I’ll be back at the hospital later."
Ella’s face was also somewhat pale due to the uncertainty surrounding Percy’s life or death. She nodded at Elijah and glanced at Isabel, wanting to say some comforting words. But thinking about the deep relationship between Percy and Isabel, like blood siblings, she couldn’t bring herself to speak.
Elijah raised his hand and gently touched Ella’s long hair. He spoke softly, "Don’t worry too much. Mr. Stanton will be fine. Remember to eat something and take care of yourself tonight."
Ella softly replied, "Mhm." Then Elijah, holding Isabel, said goodbye to everyone and took her straight out of the hospital.
Elijah took Isabel directly to a porridge house near the hospital and ordered her favorite porridge. However, Isabel couldn’t eat even though she held the spoon. She looked at the brightly lit Bellshire City outside the window and thought about what Thomas had said regarding Percy possibly not making it. The tears she had been holding back welled up again in her eyes.
Her heart felt like it was being twisted and squeezed by someone with great force.
Hadn’t she always wanted to avenge her parents and find her child alone, without any other emotional attachments? Now, this person who always entangled her might be dying, and there would be no one to stop her anymore. She could take those pieces of evidence and destroy Sebastian’s family, and force her child’s whereabouts out of someone.
Now... she could finally have her wish fulfilled... Isabel, can you not be happy...?
Isabel suddenly burst into laughter amidst her tears. Laughing and crying, her tears streamed down her face.
But she didn’t feel happy, not in the slightest. She was so sad that she felt like crying couldn’t even relieve the suffocation in her heart.
Isabel suddenly threw the spoon away and buried her face on the table. Her shoulders trembled with more force as she sobbed.
Elijah sat opposite her, watching Isabel cry, and felt his eyes become hot.
In his memory, since he could remember, Isabel had always been superior and aloof. Could he ever have imagined that she would cry helplessly like a fragile girl next door?
He wanted to comfort Isabel, but he didn’t know how to say anything. In his mind, he slowly recalled the conversation he had overheard between Isabel and Percy the day before.
Percy did truly love his sister; otherwise, he wouldn’t have pushed her out of the way, risking his own life at that critical moment. His sister had suffered a lot for him and their wrongfully deceased parents.
He had once secretly vowed to take responsibility for his family, and now it was time to take up that responsibility.
Thinking about this, Elijah exhaled heavily, then got up, walked around the dining table, and forcefully pulled Isabel up. He turned and bent down slightly, allowing her to lean on his back. He carried her out of the porridge house.
Elijah carried Isabel for a long time, and she cried on his back for a long time until, exhausted from crying, she fell asleep, finally becoming quiet.
...
When Isabel woke up again, she found herself in the bedroom of Percy’s apartment.
The room was quiet, and the window was not closed. The night breeze blew the curtains, which fluttered halfway across the room.
