Chapter 647: Chapter 665: The Cute Baby’s Smart Counterattack (8)
At this moment, the night was not deep, but the closed bedroom was eerily quiet.
Isabel Smith sat alone on the sofa, for the first time in six years, carefully reviewing her life since her parents were brutally killed before her eyes.
Pale was the main tone and melody of her life, with the only color and passion being Percy Stanton, the man she loved.
Tony said people’s hearts were made of flesh, so how could she be so cold-blooded?
Over the past six years, she believed that she had no choice but to avenge her parents, find her lost child, and protect her younger brother. She had always been living for others, fighting desperately, with no regrets. Yet she had never lived for herself, so much so that she had wronged the best man in her world.
She wasn’t unaware of her own cruelty - not just to herself, but more so to Percy Stanton. But she always felt that her choices were right.
People should love their parents first and foremost. If they could not even love their parents, how could they be worthy of being human?
It’s said that a person’s character is shaped by their environment. The Isabel of six years ago was not like this, but she had lost too much and become too independent to learn how to rely on others.
In her heart of hearts, she longed for someone to depend on.
She admitted that she thought there was nothing wrong with avenging her parents. But Tony’s words were filled with accusations, as if she had made a huge mistake.
Isabel slowly closed her eyes, leaning against the sofa and asking herself over and over again if she had gone down the wrong path all this time?
But then again, she couldn’t figure out where exactly she had gone wrong.
No one understood how heavy the blow was to be betrayed by one’s own uncle, who had murdered her parents. It destroyed her trust in the world and her worldview.
From that moment on, she couldn’t learn to trust or depend on others.
She acknowledged that she wanted Percy to take on all this burden so many times, but she was afraid; afraid of losing him, just like she had lost her parents.
She was, in every sense of the term, a coward.
As tears streamed from Isabel’s eyes, she bowed her head, buried it in her legs, curled up on the sofa, and tightly gripped the fabric of her clothes on her thigh. Over and over again, she called herself a coward.
While scolding herself, she began to think that maybe, just maybe, she had done something wrong.
...
The second day, the weather was sunny and dazzling. Isabel slowly opened her eyes, looked at the bright sunlight outside the window, and moved her legs that had been curled up on the sofa for the night.
She had lost feeling in them. She raised her hand, pinched hard twice, then began to regain some sensation. Bracing herself on the sofa, she slowly rose to her feet.
She took a bath in the bathroom first, changed into clean clothes, pocketed the address Tony left on the table, and headed for the door.
Tony sat on the sofa in the bedroom, his face somewhat yellow and tired, as if he hadn’t slept all night. Seeing Isabel emerge from the bedroom fully dressed, he hastily stood up and said, "Miss Isabel, are you going out?"
Isabel nodded her head.
Tony couldn’t help but ask, "Are you going to the place I told you about yesterday?"
Isabel nodded again.
Tony scratched his head and pointed at the bathroom, saying, "Wait for me, I’ll get ready quickly and take you there."
"No need," said Isabel, looking at the weary Tony, worried that any problems might arise if he drove in that condition. "I want to go by myself. You should stay at home and get some rest."
"But..." Tony hesitated, remembering Percy’s instructions to keep a close watch on Isabel.
