Chapter 625: Chapter 643: A Young Girl’s Feelings Are Always Poetry (6)
Holding the package in her arms back to the office, Isabel Smith carefully examined it, making sure that there was nothing dangerous inside. Then she took a sharp knife and cut open the express delivery seal, revealing a leather belt inside.
Isabel untied the red rope on the leather belt and found some papers and a CD inside.
As she pulled out the papers and looked at the content, her facial expression changed drastically... What was recorded on them were all detailed accounts of Sebastian Smith’s money laundering through shell companies.
After going through the documents, Isabel put the CD into her computer and discovered that it was filled with data analysis.
This information along with the huge financial transactions from Sebastian’s money laundering in just a few days was enough to charge him with business fraud and spend the rest of his life in prison. This was exactly what she needed. But who sent her these items?
Isabel looked at the documents for a long time, not responding, until there was a knock on the door. Swiftly, she stuffed the documents and CD back into the leather belt and put it in her drawer, then said to the person outside, "Please come in."
....
Ella Adams didn’t have class that day. When she called Percy Stanton a few days ago, she learned that Raymond Thompson had an accident. So, that afternoon, she went to the hospital early to take over for Percy and stayed behind to take care of Raymond.
Percy had been in the hospital for a week without a good night’s sleep. So, he left the hospital early and went to Smith Corporation to pick up Isabel from work.
That morning, Percy received a call from Tony Williams, letting him know that he had already sent all the collected evidence of Sebastian Smith’s business crimes to Isabel via express delivery.
So, when Percy picked up Isabel in the afternoon, he thought he would see a look of joy and excitement on her face. But, to his surprise, she leaned against the car seat with her eyes closed as soon as she got into the car.
She appeared listless, as though exhausted, and her complexion was not good.
When Percy asked what was wrong, Isabel said she was not feeling well.
Indeed, it was a good excuse, leaving Percy unable to find any flaw in her story. But deep down, he still sensed something amiss that he couldn’t quite put his finger on.
They ate dinner outside, and by the time they got home, it was already 9 o’clock at night. Isabel took a bath and then silently climbed into bed.
By the time Percy finished bathing and came out of the bathroom, Isabel had her eyes closed and appeared to be asleep.
Percy carefully got into bed, lifted the quilt, and lay down beside Isabel.
Isabel was lying peacefully next to him, her faint post-bath fragrance continuously filling his nose, just like every other night they had spent together.
Yet, somehow, Percy felt uneasy at heart, unsure as to what had gone wrong.
Percy thought about it for a long time, unable to figure it out, and after who knows how long, he eventually fell asleep alongside Isabel.
....
Isabel’s sleep was unrestful, filled with dreams.
Most of the dreams were forgotten as soon as she awoke, but later, somehow, she dreamt of the scenes that Evelyn Osbert had described to her.
In the dream, Isabel clearly saw Evelyn taking away her newborn child. The baby cried desperately, and as it cried, it seemed to be choked, its little face turning red with pain. It struggled and flailed its limbs, and then its crying ceased. Soon, the baby’s face turned purple, and its body gradually stiffened, becoming completely still at last.
Evelyn held the child for a long time before realizing it was dead. Then, she tossed the baby into the vast ocean. Waves crashed against the shore, and soon, the child disappeared without a trace, leaving only the quilt that wrapped him floating on the sea surface, drifting further and further away.
