Chapter 620: Chapter 638: A Young Girl’s Feelings Are Always Poetry (1)
Percy Stanton leaned on one hand with his head resting on it, while the other played aimlessly with the mobile phone in his palm. His mind started to pull together images in rapid succession, his fingers sliding across the screen in rhythm with his emotions. After a while, Percy lowered his gaze and saw a picture which had been on his phone for a very long time.
It was a group photo he had taken at a fountain in Town Square, Ravenwood City, of Isabel Smith and Raymond Thompson.
If the two photos he’d seen just then were separate, he’d need to rely on short-term memory to distinguish the similarities between the two people in the photos. However, now, he could directly compare them in just one snapshot.
Isabel Smith and Raymond Thompson’s faces were close together, both of them smiling happily. Their lips curved upwards, revealing rows of neat white teeth, complemented by two shallow dimples on their cheeks. Their laughter seems to have been carved from the same mould, no matter how he looked at it.
Percy was startled by his sudden revelation, his heart trembling. His fingers loosened and the mobile phone dropped straight down, hitting his foot where he was wearing slippers.
Pain spread from the top of his foot, yet he remained in the same position as before, as if he did not feel it at all.
However, in his mind, a whirlwind of thoughts began to churn.
In the world, there are many instances of coincidences, he, however, had never imagined the coincidence that Isabel Smith could be Raymond Thompson’s mother!
Was he being deluded by his dream last night or hypnotised by Nurse’s words? Or was he so desperate to be with Isabel Smith that he was absurdly imagining Raymond being her child?
And yet...the more he thought about it, the more points of coincidence he found. Isabel Smith had a pregnancy six years ago, gave birth five years ago, then lost the baby. It was also five years ago when he received Raymond as his son on his birthday. Even though the timing didn’t quite match, he didn’t know Raymond’s actual date of birth... The strangest coincidence was that Isabel Smith’s pregnancy had come out of nowhere, and so had his sudden fatherhood. The timing wasn’t too far off...
He and Isabel Smith had not slept together six years ago - that was proof. If this child were factually theirs, then how did he come to be?
As Percy pondered, his expression became solemn, and his brain began to spin faster than ever.
He racked his brain for all the events and details from six years ago.
It played out in his mind like an old movie, lingering over every detail, every frame.
He had only ever slept with one woman, Isabel Smith, before then it was always self-pleasure. After Raymond, the self-pleasurement certainly wouldn’t have malfunctioned, which meant it was before Raymond existed. At that time, he didn’t frequently masturbate.
As for the birth of Raymond, it was indeed hard to determine.
Now, however, he was considering Isabel Smith as a possible mother. This meant that the person who got her pregnant must have known both him and her.
Isabel Smith had said she was underage and unmarried, pregnant and banished to the United States by Mrs. Smith. This indicated that her circumstances were extremely dire at the time.
Given that she didn’t willingly conceive the child, and considering all of the circumstances, it was apparent someone must have set up Isabel Smith!
Whoever could do something like this to Isabel Smith must have known her quite well, and their relationship must’ve been complex. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have had the opportunity or reason to act.
As Percy thought about this, the light in his eyes became sharp. A name gradually surfaced in his mind - Evelyn Osbert!
Accompanied by the three words, Evelyn Osbert, clarity began to descend on many things which had puzzled Percy for many years.
The first time he had masturbated in his dormitory at school, Evelyn Osbert had come to their dorm. At that time, she already had many grievances with him.
