Chapter 610: Chapter 628: I Choose to Like You (1)

The corridor was eerily quiet, neither of the two people engaged in any conversation.

The atmosphere at the scene seemed somewhat oppressive.

Even Raymond Thompson’s head teacher was beginning to feel somewhat suffocated.

Suddenly, the door of the emergency room was opened, and a female nurse walked out.

Isabel Smith and Percy Stanton simultaneously turned their heads. Isabel subconsciously wanted to rise from her chair, but she found herself unable to muster any strength.

"Excuse me, who is the parent of little Raymond?" The female nurse stood at the doorway and asked.

Surgery had not even started for several minutes, and a nurse had already appeared. Could it be that they were having to resuscitate... Percy didn’t dare to let his thoughts wander further. He appeared calm and composed, but his voice contained an almost imperceptible tremble: "I am...", he paused before slightly huskily asking, "What is Raymond’s condition?"

"I’m terribly sorry, our hospital blood bank does not have enough blood. If we order from other hospitals now, I’m afraid it might be too late. The patient’s current condition is particularly dire, and he is still extremely anemic. Since you are the patient’s father, may I ask if your blood type is O-negative?"

"I am type B."

"That’s unfortunate; the patient is O-type, so we must use O-type blood. Is the child’s mother present? If so, is her blood type O?"

"He doesn’t have a mother." Percy pursed his lips, took out his mobile phone from his pocket, prepared to make a call to arrange for blood to be brought as quickly as possible. Isabel, sitting beside him, opened her trembling voice, "Use mine. I have O-type blood."

Percy turned his head in response to her words and looked at Isabel.

Isabel’s complexion remained as pale as before. Leaning on the armrest of the chair, her trembling legs stood up and she turned towards Percy, "Coincidentally, I have O-type blood. Please use mine."

Having said that, Isabel turned and asked the nurse, "Where can I get the blood drawn?"

The nurse, having paused a moment to glance at Percy, led Isabel to an adjacent office and drew blood. After confirming that Isabel’s blood could be used, she gave Isabel a voluntary blood donation consent form. Isabel did not even bother to read the contents before briskly signing her name, then stood up and was led into the emergency room by the nurse.

...

The subsequent wait felt unbearably long.

Percy stood unmoving in the corridor, maintaining a straight posture. Raymond’s head teacher had gone downstairs and bought two bottles of water, handing one to Percy. Percy gave a thanks and took the bottle, placing it on the windowsill. He glanced at the sign reading ’surgery in progress’ on the emergency room door, then moved his lips slightly and continued to look out the window.

Time ticked away slowly, and the sky outside gradually darkened. Percy glanced at Raymond’s head teacher, frequently checking his watch beside him, then blandly said, "If Teacher Genevie has other matters, he can leave first."

Raymond’s head teacher looked somewhat apologetic as he raised his head, "My apologies Mr. Stanton. The accident this afternoon was completely unexpected. I have already contacted the school and the parent of the other child involved. They mentioned compensation and hope to discuss it in person with you."

"Let’s address these matters later when Raymond is okay." Percy interrupted the head teacher’s speech calmly, turning his head away. After a moment, he said, "It’s getting late, I can wait here alone."

Raymond’s head teacher stood up, looked at Percy’s profile, and once again said "I’m sorry."

Percy did not respond. Raymond’s head teacher glanced at the emergency room where the surgery was still in progress, then turned around and left.

In the now undisturbed corridor, Percy was left alone. The intense white light from the lamp above his head made his eyes ache slightly.
