Chapter 591: Chapter 608: The Lights of the City Shine for You (1)
Isabel Smith’s lips were so close to Percy Stanton’s ear that they unintentionally brushed against it as she spoke. The tingling sensation instantly spread throughout his body, making him feel utterly relaxed. For a moment, he didn’t even pay attention to what Isabel was saying, simply indulging in the comfortable feeling.
Isabel thought Percy might be angry, so she cautiously looked at his expression and whispered softly in his ear, "You reacted so quickly just now, I didn’t even have time to say anything. Don’t be angry, okay?"
After saying that, she still lacked confidence, and added, "Actually, it’s partly my fault, but it’s also half your fault."
So, she was worrying about this the whole time... Percy’s eyes filled with amusement as he looked at her. He turned his head, gazed tenderly at Isabel, and mimicked her by leaning in to whisper in her ear, "Isabel, I couldn’t have been happier that you weren’t hurt. It’s a good thing. Why would I be angry?"
Isabel stared at him in disbelief, surprised to hear a hint of laughter in the man’s voice. She turned her head, gave Percy a skeptical look, and noticed his beaming face. Frowning, she leaned into his ear and told him her concerns, "Now the doctor is here, and I’m not hurt. How embarrassing is this?"
Those standing nearby watched as Isabel and Percy whispered intimately into each other’s ears, exchanging puzzled glances but not daring to make a sound, simply standing there bewildered.
Percy had no time to spare for dealing with others as long as Isabel was in front of him.
He didn’t mind making those people wait at all. Leaning in to Isabel’s ear, he spoke gently, "It’s up to me to handle this. Why are you worrying yourself over nothing?"
After saying this, Percy raised his hand to soothe the uneasiness in Isabel’s heart, gently stroking her long hair, and then stood up. He addressed the room full of people, "Isabel’s fine; she says she doesn’t need any examination, so unfortunately, the doctor had to make a wasted trip."
Isabel never expected Percy to get straight to the point. She had never experienced many situations where strangers surrounded her, and she was afraid the people would complain that she hadn’t said anything sooner, so her face quickly filled with embarrassment.
But the next second, Percy continued calmly, "It’s just that I saw Isabel get hurt, so I panicked and made a fuss. It’s really embarrassing for this young miss now."
After Percy spoke, he pointed his chin towards Isabel.
The crowd couldn’t help but laugh.
"No, no, Mr. Stanton is just showing his deep concern for his beloved."
"Being unhurt is a good thing; there’s nothing to be embarrassed about."
"A false alarm; we were afraid of something serious. Alright, Xiao Wang, please take the doctor back now..."
...
As Isabel sat in her seat, listening to the people’s conversation, she couldn’t help but look at Percy’s face.
It was understandable for him to be worried and anxious, but her enjoyment of being the center of attention was somewhat unreasonable.
Although she should have been the one apologizing, as soon as she whispered her concerns to him, he took all the responsibility onto himself without a second thought, and even found a way for her to save face.
Percy stood where he was, engaged in a conversation with the highest-ranking official of the Public Security Bureau. From a side view, he seemed arrogant, but somehow, Isabel felt warmth deep in her heart.
...
When Isabel finished giving her statement, the two police officers questioning the criminal had still not managed to get any information from him.
As it was getting late, Percy simply told them to call him when they had news and then left with Isabel.
After the harrowing ordeal that night, Isabel was truly exhausted. As soon as she got into the car, she leaned back into the car seat, feeling weak, and closed her eyes.
