Chapter 587: Chapter 604: There’s No Place in Life Where We Can’t Meet Each Other (7)

On the TV, a local station’s variety show was playing, and Isabel Smith pretended to be interested, focusing on the screen while silently counting the time in her heart.

Despite only being a few wasted minutes, Isabel felt as if each moment dragged on for years.

As she glanced at her mobile phone screen for the last time and saw that eight minutes had passed, the breath caught in her throat finally eased slightly.

Only a little more than one minute left, she thought she could safely wait for the police to arrive.

However, before she could fully relax, a coughing sound suddenly broke the silence.

Isabel’s body tensed up once more; she planned to continue pretending she hadn’t heard, but the coughing continued, each bout louder than the last.

Then, her bedroom wardrobe was pulled open, and a man in black emerged, rubbing his nose.

Isabel jumped up from the sofa immediately.

That man seemingly paid no attention to her, rubbing his nose and looking away. Isabel noticed his dark complexion, guessing he was in his early thirties, not very tall, with a prominent scar on his left cheek.

The man, irritated by Isabel’s fur coat, sneezed heavily, finally catching his breath. Then, he looked up, and his gaze met Isabel’s.

Both had been hoping for a peaceful resolution, but now they stared at each other, caught off guard by this sudden confrontation.

Then the man reached into his pocket.

Isabel, keeping a close eye on him, saw him pull out a bright, shiny dagger from inside. She swallowed her saliva, her eyes darting around before grabbing a glass water cup from the table and throwing it at him without thinking.

The glass cup, half-filled with water, splashed onto the man’s face. As he shook his head, Isabel took the opportunity to grab her mobile phone and run towards the bedroom door.

The man reacted quickly, following Isabel in a sprint.

He was much faster than Isabel; when she opened the door, he was only a short distance behind her. In desperation, Isabel reached outside, grabbing a golf club she had prepared earlier, and smashed it at the man following her.

The man, who did not expect Isabel to have such a trick up her sleeve, faltered but retreated slightly. However, he was still struck on the shoulder by the hard club, and angrily cursed while grimacing in pain. "You dare to hit me? I’m going to chop you to pieces now!"

As he shouted, he reached out to grab the golf club from Isabel’s hand.

Isabel quickly shifted the club, striking the man’s body again.

She put her entire strength into the blow, and blood oozed from the man’s body.

The sight of the red blood sent a shudder through her heart.

In her lifetime, she had never harmed anyone before.

That man, perhaps eager to escape after clashing with Isabel face-to-face, tried his best to quickly flee, but his heart was hardened. As Isabel struck him again, he gritted his teeth to endure the pain, raised his other hand, and grabbed the other end of the golf club, attempting to snatch it away from Isabel’s hand.
