Chapter 585: Chapter 601: There’s No Place in Life Where We Can’t Meet Each Other (4)
When choosing toothpaste, Isabel Smith thought of Percy Stanton who had stayed at her place the night before last, so she picked the toothpaste he liked to use. She also deliberately chose a toothbrush holder and a face wash for Percy.
After paying, Isabel walked out of the supermarket and walked back to the ground floor of her building.
Isabel felt that she hadn’t spent much time at the supermarket, but when she took the elevator upstairs, she glanced at her mobile phone screen and saw that it was almost 11 PM. The sixth-floor corridor was quiet, probably because it was occupied by office workers who had to go to work tomorrow and had gone to bed early.
Isabel gently approached her room, took out her key, and went to open the door.
However, as she inserted the key, the door opened before she even turned it.
Isabel froze in her tracks. Had she forgotten to lock the door before leaving?
Isabel frowned doubtfully, then pushed the door open and turned on the light. Seeing that the living room was the same as when she left, she breathed a sigh of relief, closed the door, and bent down to change her shoes at the entrance area.
After changing her shoes, Isabel placed the bag of items she had bought on the coffee table in the living room, and then walked to the refrigerator at the open kitchen, took out a bottle of water, twisted the cap open, and sipped as she headed for her bedroom.
...
In the bedroom, a man stood in front of Isabel’s desk, turned on her computer, and entered the wrong password twice. Realizing something was off, and hearing footsteps approaching from the living room, he frantically closed Isabel’s computer and rushed into her wardrobe.
As soon as he closed the wardrobe door, the bedroom door was pushed open by Isabel.
Seeing the light on in the bedroom, Isabel frowned, recalling that she had turned off the light before leaving. Could her memory be failing her? Had she forgotten to lock the door and turn off the light?
Isabel pouted and walked to the desk, put down the half-empty bottle of water in her hand, and turned on the computer.
While waiting for it to boot, Isabel stood up and plugged in her mobile phone with the data cable to charge it. In less than ten seconds, Isabel looked back and saw that the computer was already turned on.
Her computer had a good configuration, but it wasn’t so good that it could boot up in just a few seconds.
So, there was only one explanation for the rapid boot-up - her computer had been in standby status.
Isabel had always had a good habit of shutting down her computer after using it.
This meant that someone must have tampered with her computer.
Isabel’s entire body tensed up. With this realization, she immediately understood that her door had not been left unlocked by accident. Someone had broken in.
And the light in the bedroom had also been turned on by someone.
But who was it?
Had they left, or were they still in her room?
All kinds of thoughts flooded Isabel’s mind in a moment, and her heart raced.
An inexplicable feeling of terror gradually rose from the bottom of her heart.
Regardless of whether the person had left or was still in her room, her residence was no longer safe.
But if the person was still in her room, what should she do at this moment?
Isabel forced herself to calm down quickly, pretending not to have noticed anything. She sat down at the computer, tilted her head, and raised her hand, as if to enter her password. However, after typing just two digits, she suddenly stood up, quietly grabbed her mobile phone from the table, and walked over to her bed to lie down.
If the person had tampered with her computer, they must have wanted to access its contents. If she entered her password, the person who might be hiding in the shadows, could suddenly emerge and freely browse her computer.
