Chapter 569: Chapter 585: Engagement Banquet Without a Female Lead (8)

"That’s not my father’s phone number." Raymond Thompson abruptly interrupted Evelyn Osbert, his little heart beating fast with nerves, terrified that a call from the police might expose his little stunt. So, he went on talking to the cop without pause, "Uncle Police, this is my father’s phone number."

At this point, Raymond paused, weighing up in his mind what was more important, getting the better of the woman in front of him or going to Starhaven University to find his test-tube mother. Eventually, he decided he could find his mother any day, but he could only trick this woman today. So, Raymond swiftly and forcefully gave a series of numbers to the police, Mr. Percy’s private phone number, "Uncle Police, can you call my father for me, ask him to pick me up?"

When encountering a kidnapping case, the police’s first move after receiving a call is typically to alert the parents. Therefore, after Raymond had given the phone number, the police immediately asked for his name and his father’s name, and then made the call.

...

At this point, Percy and Isabel Smith were already in a state of anxiety due to Raymond’s disappearance.

Isabel was so worried that she was on the verge of tears several times, while Percy, though outwardly calm, was going increasingly pale.

After the two had driven half of the Bellshire City at a slow pace, they still hadn’t found Raymond. Just when they were about to report to the police, Percy’s mobile phone, which was in his pocket, suddenly rang.

It was a landline number from Bellshire.

Percy, his mind consumed with thoughts of the missing Raymond, glanced at the unfamiliar number and answered the phone quite absentmindedly.

"Hello, may I speak to Mr. Percy?"

A man’s voice came from the phone. Percy responded while driving, "Yes."

"Your son, Raymond Thompson?"

"Yes." Upon hearing this, Percy perked up, "May I know who’s calling?"

"This is the Southwales District Police Station. Your son may have come into contact with a child trafficker, but luckily, he was quick-witted enough to ask for help from our colleagues here. If possible, we ask that you come to the police station as soon as possible."

...

The street that Percy and Isabel were currently driving on had few cars. The vehicle that had been leisurely trailing them suddenly sped up, passing Percy and Isabel’s car, and took a turn on the road ahead.

...

After hanging up the phone, Percy’s car had just come to a stop at an intersection. He took the opportunity to check the navigation system for how to get to the Southwales District Police Station and told Isabel, "We’ve found Raymond."

A bit of composure returned to the anxious Isabel, "Where is Raymond?"

"At the Southwales District Police Station." Percy glanced at the navigation system, noticed the red light ahead had turned green, and lightly stepped on the gas. The speed of the car increased and with the release of his prior worry, anger emerged, "He’s just been getting more and more unruly the less I discipline him recently."

"Well, little boys are naturally mischievous." Isabel indulgently smiled, but as she turned to look at Percy, she saw a white car on the side street, speeding towards them, ignoring the red light. Isabel’s smile faded, leaving a pale face behind. She warned Percy in a trembling, sharp voice, "Percy, watch out!"

Percy subconsciously turned his head in response to Isabel’s alarmed gaze and saw an unlicensed Volkswagen car speeding towards them.

The speeding car was now just a short distance from Percy’s car.

This scene immediately brought Isabel back to the car accident on her eighteenth birthday. Her face turned paper-white and her body began to shake uncontrollably as she closed her eyes subconsciously.
