Chapter 566: Chapter 582: Engagement Banquet Without a Female Lead (5)

After the New Year, Elijah Smith claimed he had to prepare for graduation, so he stayed in the rented house near school and rarely returned to the Smith family residence.

After the incident with Mrs. Smith, her mood became unstable, and she hardly talked to Evelyn Osbert. So, even though there were many servants in the house, there was nobody for Evelyn to talk to when she returned home.

That’s why Evelyn stayed in her bedroom until midnight. Then, feeling restless, she got up and drove to the Capital Club.

She partied all night with some friends, and didn’t go to a hotel to sleep until the early morning. At twelve o’clock, she received a call from Robert Vincent. After enjoying lunch together and spending some intimate time in the hotel, he took her shopping before dropping her back at the Smith residence.

Evelyn was sitting in the passenger seat, looking at the large and small bags that Robert had bought for her in the shopping mall through the rearview mirror. However, she didn’t feel the same joy as before. Instead, her thoughts turned to Percy Stanton, and she seemed melancholy. With her hand propping up her chin, she let out a soft sigh.

"What’s wrong?" Robert asked, taking her hand and gently squeezing it as he smiled.

"Nothing," Evelyn replied with a smile. Just as she was about to continue the lie, Robert’s mobile phone rang. She glanced at the screen, seeing that it was a call from Robert’s wife.

Evelyn pursed her lips and said nothing.

Robert made a silencing gesture to Evelyn before picking up the call.

Evelyn didn’t know what was being discussed on the other end, but she could tell from Robert’s response that his wife was urging him to come home.

Robert glanced at Evelyn, then said to his wife, "I can’t come home for at least another two hours."

The voice on the other end suddenly grew louder, as if his wife was losing her temper.

Robert frowned, looking annoyed as he said, "Fine, I’ll try to come home as soon as possible."

Hearing this, Evelyn smiled and looked out the car window.

Her charm hadn’t waned, had it?

She could not only catch Robert’s attention but also make him put her before his own wife.

It’s just that Percy Stanton was somewhat picky... But she could accept it, given how outstanding he was...

Thinking of this, Evelyn pursed her lips and smiled faintly. Her bad mood after being played with by Percy in Ravenwood City suddenly turned into confidence.

By nature, Evelyn enjoyed seeing men sacrifice something for her. So just to satisfy her wicked taste, she turned to Robert and was about to suggest they have dinner together in order to delay his return home.

However, before she could speak, she saw a familiar-looking young boy standing by the roadside.

Evelyn swallowed her words, rapidly glancing around before changing the topic with Robert: "Robert, can you drop me off up ahead? I just remembered I have a friend who lives there. She brought me a bag from France recently, and since I’m passing by, I might as well go pick it up."

She added considerately, "Mrs. Vincent might need you for something urgent, so you should go home first. We can catch up another time when we’re both free."

Before Robert could reply, his phone rang again – it was still his wife calling. After thinking for a moment, he nodded and said, "Alright then."

With that, Robert pulled the car over. Evelyn got out and picked up her shopping bags from the backseat. Waving goodbye to him with a smile, she watched Robert drive away before turning to face Raymond Thompson, who was standing under a nearby bus stop sign.
