Chapter 557: Chapter 573 Relentless Confession (24)

...

The unknown man standing outside the door pressed his head against it and heard Isabel Smith’s footsteps near the doorstep suddenly speed away. His hand gripping the dagger handle tightened fiercely before releasing slightly. He then pulled his hand out of his chest pocket and fetched a long, sharp metal object that he inserted into the keyhole of Isabel’s door.

The hard metal slowly twisted around inside the lock, hooking the latch. The stranger applied a little force, and a click indicated that the door was unlocked.

A second before the door lock was completely opened, suddenly there was a "ding-dong" sound from the elevator behind the stranger, and the dim corridor instantly became brightly lit.

The unknown man’s body stiffened, and he quickly pulled the metal object out, pretending to be a passerby, rushing towards the elevator.

The elevator door opened in time for Percy Stanton to walk out hurriedly. The unknown man moved to the side and entered the elevator.

Percy didn’t think much and walked to Isabel’s room door, raising his hand to knock.

...

"Knock, knock, knock..."

Isabel’s mobile phone had just been turned on, and with the sudden knocking sound, it fell to the ground with a "snap".

She bent down, trembling fingers picking up the phone when the knocking sound came again, this time with a few more loud knocks.

Isabel couldn’t help but shiver, her heart seemed to stop beating. Without thinking, she quickly grabbed her mobile phone from the ground and hurriedly opened her call history. Not caring whether the first name was Percy’s, or if she had just been upset about him and Evelyn Osbert, she quickly tapped his name and dialed.

...

Percy raised his hand and continued to knock on the door several more times. He frowned, wondering if Isabel had fallen asleep?

But when he had come upstairs just a moment ago, the light in her room was on, and he could see her figure standing in the bedroom through the curtains.

Without thinking, Percy knocked on the door again.

On his fourth knock, his mobile phone suddenly rang in his pocket, its sound echoing loudly in the quiet corridor.

Percy quickly took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID, and answered, "Isabel Smith, I’ve been knocking for a while now instead of calling me, hurry up and open the door."

...

Sitting in her room, tense and on edge, Isabel froze at his words.

She blinked incredulously, then heard Percy’s familiar voice through the phone: "Isabel, can you hear me on the phone? Open the door, open the door!"

Accompanied by his hurried voice, the room door echoed with more knocking sounds, even louder and more urgent than before.

Finally, Isabel snapped back to reality, hurriedly running out of the bedroom and rushing towards the living room door.

In the process, Percy switched from knocking to pounding on the door.

Just as Isabel got to the living room door, she heard a door opening sound in the corridor, followed by a harsh man’s voice: "Damn it, what are you doing knocking on the door this late at night!"

Then, Percy apologized insincerely without any hint of apology in his tone: "Oh, I’m sorry, I disturbed you."

Accompanied by a loud "bang" as the door closed, Isabel realized that it was indeed Percy standing outside the door. Without hesitation, she quickly opened the door and saw Percy standing there, holding his phone.

Only then did Isabel let out a long sigh of relief, her tense body suddenly collapsing, and her heart, which had been up in her throat, finally settling back down in her chest.
