Chapter 550: Chapter 566 Relentless Confession (17)

"Mr. Stanton, you’re too kind."

Everyone responded in unison, raising their wine glasses and downing their drinks in one gulp.

It had been a month since Isabel Smith had her miscarriage, and now she could drink alcohol again.

However, due to her excessive drinking during social engagements that had led to fetal death in utero, Isabel had developed some reservations about alcohol. She merely took a small sip from her wine glass before putting it back down.

This wine seemed specially brewed, the taste was sweet and delicious on the tongue, but slightly spicy once it reached the stomach. Then it released a myriad of lingering flavors.

After the first thank-you toast, everyone started to eat the dishes that had been brought to the table.

Percy Stanton was the first to pick up his tableware and served the dishes Isabel had ordered for herself. Isabel had thought that these homestyle dishes wouldn’t have significant differences in taste, but after taking a bite, she realized that they were better than any other restaurant she had tried before.

Since everyone was gathered to eat and drink, the familiar practice of toasting ensued, so the mealtime didn’t last long. Although not much food was eaten from the table, a large bottle of wine had already been consumed.

The waiter standing behind Percy Stanton opened a new bottle of wine, filled everyone’s glasses and they continued chatting. Most of the conversation was about various departments preparing to develop projects in different cities, how certain projects were taken over by relatives of influential people, and in the end, they couldn’t help but sigh and discuss the monetary worth of those projects.

Isabel felt she recognized a few of the people sitting at the table, but she couldn’t remember who was who in that moment. Later, as everyone took turns toasting her, Percy leaned over to whisper introductions of each person into her ear, and only then did it suddenly dawn on her that these individuals were all public figures who had appeared on Central TV Station at 7 p.m.

Isabel wanted to ask Percy how he knew these people, but considering they were all present, she swallowed her curiosity and maintained a dignified and polite demeanor with a smile on her face.

In the depths of her heart, Isabel grew more suspicious: she had always known that Percy had contacts, and when she had asked him about it, he claimed it was all through work—she didn’t doubt that at first.

But now, he had invited some highly influential people to deal with the issue of Elijah Smith’s fight. Suddenly, Isabel felt that she had been too naive and foolish before.

Moreover, Elijah Smith’s fight was, to the busy individuals present, a trivial matter as insignificant as sesame seeds, yet Percy could invite them to attend to such matters.

In Bellshire’s business circle, it was rumored that Percy Stanton had started from scratch, without background or status, and that he had made a name for himself in Bellshire City purely through his intelligence.

If that were true, even if he had made a name for himself in Bellshire, he wouldn’t have been able to infiltrate the government departments, right?

So, who exactly was he?

As Isabel pondered, she couldn’t help but turn her head to study Percy more closely. The man held a light green jade cup in his hand, with long, slender, white fingers that stood out especially beautifully against each other.

At the feast, when the conversation spanned various topics, it inevitably covered all kinds of ground. In the end, someone diverted the conversation from public affairs to private matters.

"Mr. Stanton, you don’t seem too young anymore. Have you thought about getting married?"
