Chapter 549: Chapter 565 Relentless Confession (16)
Isabel Smith naturally had no objections to Mrs. Smith’s proposal, so her work each day lately had been analysing the shareholder situation of Smith Corporation.
Percy Stanton was undoubtedly busier with matters of the Thompson Empire Group than with those of Smith Corporation and he was working in Bellshire. Therefore, he had endless video meetings every day. By the time he managed to squeeze in a bit of time to make a call to Isabel, their conversations would invariably be interrupted by their respective assistants.
It took Isabel five days to analyse the circumstances of these shareholders. Some of them, who were old shareholders, flatly refused her over the phone when she expressed her intent to purchase their shares.
When Percy Stanton called this time, it happened to be just after Isabel’s fifth attempt to convince these old shareholders had hit a wall. As such, Isabel was feeling rather frustrated. Holding her mobile phone, she grumbled to Percy, "This is so frustrating. Those old shareholders of Smith Corporation won’t even meet me face-to-face. Grandma asked me to buy the shares and after all these days, I’ve only managed to purchase one percent."
Percy Stanton merely offered soothing platitudes like "take your time," and then quickly changed the subject. "Isabel, are you free tonight? Let’s have dinner together."
Isabel lifted her gaze and glanced at the time displayed on her computer screen. Considering the heavy work pressure of late, she agreed, "Alright."
"I’ll pick you up from your office building when you’re about to leave work then."
...
After hanging up, Percy Stanton immediately dialed Tony Williams’ number.
As soon as the call went through, Percy Stanton began without any preamble, "Tony, didn’t I ask you to put those shares I wanted to buy under various anonymous users’ names? Now, have several reliable employees from the Thompson Empire Group contact Isabel at a suitable time and sell all these shares to her at a low price."
"Mr. Stanton, why don’t you simply gift the shares to Miss Smith directly?"
Upon hearing these words, Percy Stanton fell silent for quite a bit before he said, "I’m afraid she would refuse."
After a pause, Percy reiterated, "Remember, sell the shares to Isabel at a low price. A low price!"
After hanging up with Tony, Percy closed his laptop, stood by the window, and gazed at the slightly gloomy sky outside. He thought to himself, would Isabel getting her wish of taking over Smith Corporation mean that she could finally live her life without any worries for her future?
...
On his way to pick up Isabel for dinner, Percy received a call from Thompson Empire Group Headquarters. They informed him that two important clients, who were flying in from France on short notice, required Percy to personally receive them.
These clients were related to a project that Thompson Empire Group had started developing at the end of last year. The project was linked to the French government and negotiations had been going on for a long time without any conclusion. Now that representatives from France were arriving, it seemed the project was almost agreed upon.
Percy glanced at the time and said into the phone, "Book airplane tickets for Tony Williams and Raymond Thompson. I’m heading back to Ravenwood City right now."
After hanging up the call from Thompson Empire Group Headquarters, Percy made a U-turn on the road ahead and dialed Isabel’s number.
"Isabel, I’m sorry but I have two important clients from the Thompson Empire Group’s main office coming over on short notice. I might have to fly back to Ravenwood City right now and our dinner tonight might have to be cancelled."
...
Now, Isabel, who had originally cleared her schedule to have dinner with Percy, found herself with free time due to Percy’s suddenly re-emerging work commitments. When she left Smith Corporation, it was only five-thirty. Since it was still early, Isabel didn’t go home. She simply hailed a taxi and headed for a nearby supermarket.
The supermarket was located on the basement level of a shopping mall. When Isabel got out of the taxi and was paying the fare, a somewhat battered white Volkswagen also pulled up, and a man emerged from it. Isabel thought the man looked familiar, as if she had seen him somewhere before, but couldn’t remember where.
